I saw OSU released a depth chart a few weeks ago, Rod isn't in the two deep anywhere.

They have gotten like what 2 visits? We have gotten 4 I think?

Mike Vrabel was his favorite NFL player. I hate knowing that he is the one recruiting him.

Talked to the nation's top OLB Jaylon Smith. He has the June visit set to Notre Dame for the 14th as reported. He plans to get back to Ohio State soon and USC this summer.
More coming in a story later.

Did add that he still likes ND

USC is damn good at keep away because Ed O/Kiff are not only great at selling USC but poisoning the mind with what is "bad" about the other school. Pete Carroll was great at this too... things like telling Alshon Jeffery he'd end up pumping gas if he went to South Carolina come to mind...

It really bothers me that they're making such a late push here and will get a visit. USC is doing this in large part just to keep a great player away from ND... similar to when they pushed late for Shephard and Greenberry and were successful in getting neither to go to ND. I guess just cross your fingers and hope for the best.

We have no one to blame but ourselves for USC neg recruiting us and keeping kids from us. If we just won games and beat teams consistently, this wouldn't be a problem.

I agree that USC is trying to spoil this for us but Jaylon is above that nonsense and would easily sniff it out.

For example, he called out a coaching staff on Twitter for trying to recruit him based on the girls in the area..

He knows ND inside and out and loves the place, it doesn't seem like he'd appreciate Kiffin or Ed O. bashing a school that he's shown such adulation for.

My opinion is that he is making this as thorough of a process he can, so when he makes that decision it is truly final.

I hope we go all-in trying to get a commitment during his June visit. I know he said he plans to go out to USC later, but if he is convinced he wants to be at ND there is no reason for him to go. I know that he has said that he likes that we haven't pushed him for a commit, but that isn't why you want to stay in the picture. The longer you let these other schools, particularly Kiffin and Meyer, hang around, the more likely it is that they eventually succeed in poisoning the well.

If Jaylon doesn't commit to ND soon, obviously he is the type of player that you stay on through signing day - even if he commits to someone else. But I think it is getting to the time in the process where you can turn the dial a little bit and start pushing for a commitment.

The fact that he won't be going far away from home makes me not afraid of USC in this one.

I think USC got into Tee and Deontay's head so easily is because they lacked family support. There is no way I would let my son pick Houston over Notre Dame, even if I wasn't a Notre Dame fan

Ya'll need to chill out and not worry lol. Jaylon has a hell of a head on his shoulder and has a great deal of intelligence...Recruiting games arent going to work in this recruitment.

Sounds familiar....

AWP finished the day 3-1. Jaylon Smith had several big plays in the morning including a pick six. Isaac Griffith, Jametrieus Crockham and Jared Murphy were the go-to receivers on offense. All three shined at different times.

It's a long way to signing day and clearly USC has done something to intrigue Jaylon, for him to throw them in his top 3. No matter all the "insider" info anyone of has, none of us knows Jaylons mind. So all this "don't worrry, he is a ND kid....he isnt leaving the area....he won't buy what Kiffin is selling" is all theories and speculation when it truly comes down to it because guess what, Jaylon is saying they are a player. Let's wait and see what Jaylon says and ultimately decides. We don't have any control of it and no need to try know his thoughts. The sense of near panic in this thread is almost sad.

Btw Happy Memorial Day! Thanks to all that have served!

From Wiltfong's piece on 247 today it sounds like what impresses Jaylon about USC is how elite their talent is. Ty Isaac is in his ear about how great USC is.

Jaylon really wants to find the right environment. He keeps saying things about wanting to be around the right people. I think the June recruiting weekend will be huge. If he likes the guys already committed for 2013 and thinks they are the high quality people he is looking for, then I think he is a true lock. If not, then he may think about it some more.

Btw, Jaylon made it pretty clear he is still an ND lean. He is excited to visit ND every chance he gets this summer and he is "really looking forward to the future". It sounded to me like he is definitely envisioning himself at ND, although he is still seriously considering OSU and USC. I Could be over-analyzing it tho
