You'd think this kid would have had Atleast some scUM interest. I meen he likes Midwest schools and visited Purdue and Indiana.

Lol. I WISH he had Michigan interest. He'd have made a ridiculous recruiting class go to ludicrous. He is way better than Levenberry, and the Michigan coaches went all-in on him. But then again, Levenberry showed some interest at least.

I like the two guys we got at LB a lot, but Jaylon Smith is a cut above them all. He is a great football player with amazing athleticism. Some kids are great athletes but not great football players. Look at the 5* prospect going to Oregon, Thomas Tyner for example. Exceptional athlete, but pretty pedestrian as a football player if you ask me. Jaylon is a great football player that happens to be a great athlete as well.

this kid is gonna be a beast at ND. 'Grats. Have heard from Michigan sources for awhile that he'd commit to ND soon.

He'll probably play in college in the 230's or 240's, and still run sub 4.5. :jawdrop:

Werd. Here's something to ponder. If we have enough talent to field a solid linebacker crew without Jaylon, what about having him play the hybrid S/LB role that Slaughter currently plays? With his speed and size I could see him being extremely effective in that role.

Just something to think about...

He could play every position on our D except Nose haha

We have plenty of hybrid S/LBs for a position that isn't our base D: Baratti, Shumate (probably till Collinsworth graduates and he becomes starting SS) and probably get a commit from a guy like Ball

He fits best IMO at the linebacker positions in this order: DOG, WILL, CAT, MIKE

His pass coverage skills our to valuable to play at CAT IMO

Jaylon tweeted earlier that his Dad will be with him tomorrow. He said his Dad hasn't been to ND yet but has been to tOSU with him.

Jaylon would simply make the star position obsolete. If jaylon was our DOG there would never be a reason to pull the DOG for a faster player with better cover skills. Jaylon is faster, with better cover skills, than most safeties anyway.

He'd be pretty perfect at dog, but if Councel or Spond develop, and the staff wants to have him on the feild with older guys, the hybrid position makes sense for his fr. Year.

Jaylons skill set is perfect for the Dog, as well as Cat when he adds that college weight from Longo. As someone mentioned he can play pretty much anywhere on D but Nose and Inside LB. Councells development has been a great peace of mind and just potentially having him and Jaylon at Dog would be outstanding.

I am just trying to get the speed on the field at the same time. That means BOTH Councell and Smith ---- maybe Diaco can create something utilizing Grace and Ishaq for power, Ben for Dog Speed, and Jaylon Star-roaming and creating chaos. I don't know what it would look like, but the athleticism is out-the-roof.

Jaylon is visiting this weekend, and per Sampson he thinks he could committ this weekend or soon there after.

I'm pretty excited about what could happen if he were to commit. You have to think it turns the heads of Anzalone and a bunch of other targets.

Top recruits want to play with top recruits...

First relatively official site to report it publicly

“@sportscrack: Good recruiting news for Notre Dame this weekend.  First 5 star LB since Te'o to commit per sources. #ndfb #notredamerecruiting”

I do not know the dude that runs sportscrack, but I do know that he was one of the first to say Gunner was coming to ND a few hours before it was made public.

He reported very early on on Deontay Greenberry to Houston as well.

I don't know a ton about him, but he does seem to have a base level of legitimacy.

Sportscrack just doesn't come across as the most trustworthy name...

But I hope he is correct.

I hope I don't spend my entire Saturday refreshing this page in hopes of him popping....

Just do it already, Jaylon...
