That, page viewers, is an A-Rod figurine available in exhange for redeemable U.S. currency at Toys "R" Us action retailers, and that figurine -- cocked arm, resolute countenance, soiled breeches and all -- has been subjected to a punishing 93.7 percent discount. You see, in the business world sometimes demand grabs supply by the lapels and beats him with a claw hammer. That's what appears to be happening in this instance.
As always, when adults misbehave, it's the durable-good profit margins that suffer the most.
Yankees to sign Brian McCann to five-year, $85M deal - CBSSports.com
5 years $85 Million
I know catchers are scarce but $17 Mil/yr strikes me as steep for a .250 hitter.
There is a zero percent chance we can sign Beltran, Cano, Tanaka and Kuroda if Arod isn't suspended. The math just doesn't even come close to working.
Disagree. I don't think the 182? number is a hard line. In fact, I know it's not a hard line, Cashman said so in an interview. Plus Arod could be suspended or ~50 games which is basically Kuroda's salary.
The only way the Yankees can sign all those guys is if Arod is suspended for the full 2014 year. Even then, I wouldn't be a fan of those moves because you are again loading up on aging players that are going to be contract albatrosses in their late 30's.
If they go more than 2 years for Beltran, 6 for Cano (which is still crazy to me), or any other contract of significant length I will be upset. We need to focus on rebuilding the farm system more than signing guys like Beltran to be extremely heavily paid stop gap measures on a team that has significant pitching issues.
I agree. Definitely no more than 2 years for Beltran and 6 for Cano. Although I'd go 7 if he came down to 25 mil per year. I'd give Tanaka 4 years.
Kuroda is probably getting a pay cut. Was very weak in second half last year. I'd guess 9-10 instead of 12.
Why would Kuroda take 9-10? He declined the qualifying offer which was $14 for one year, no?
Forgot about that.
The reason I think you are probably right about Beltran though is that since the Yankees already signed McCann, the first round pick we would have to give up for those qualifying offer guys doesn't apply anymore. So basically we would give up less to get Beltran than anyone but the Cards now.
Don't forget we also have Vernon Wells under contract for another year too. He is going to be in an OF spot and probably DH'ing a day a week as well.
Yeah but the Angles are paying a huge chunk of that salary. I figure Ichiro/Wells/Beltran would platoon the outfield and DH positions with Beltran obviously playing every day.
The one thing about McCann you yankee fans will ove is he is very clutch. Or at least he was in Atlanta.
And he is going to absolutely love the short porch in RF.
Yes he will. And for being a bigger body catcher he isn't a bad defensive catcher.
Does he throw well to second?

No, but he apparently frames pitches really well and is GREAT in the clubhouse.
He is no molina brother but he can hold his own pretty well.
Cano and Yanks are still far apart after a "reported" offer of 7 yr 168 million. 24 million a season. SMH
