Are you in support of 10 years, 300MM? The Yankee offer is very fair IMO.

Sorry maybe i should have stated that i think the Yanks offer is more then fair. 10 yr 300 million should NEVER happen and if it does that team shouldn't be able to buy the insurance on that contract. They were dumb enough to do it they have to face the consequences.

Our offer should be exactly as long and 1 million/year higher than the best offer he receives from any other team. Until another team steps up, there is nothing to negotiate. If no other team makes an offer, give him 7 years max, 25 million per year max.

Not to get overly optimistic at this point but we are absolutely stacked next year if a few more things fall right. (Beltran, Arod etc.)

Gardner
Beltran
Cano
Tex
Arod
Soriano
McCann
Jeter
Ichiro/Wells

Sabathia
Nova
Kuroda (reports are that he will re-sign)
Tanaka
Pineda/free agent?

We still need another stud starter.

That's great...I was hoping that they would make a big move in the off-season. I think we need one more starter.

Or even better Cano signs with Boston...

Back to the Yankee way.

I love how people get so butthurt over them spending money. Dodgers spend, Red Sox spend last offseason and tons of people are mum, but the second the Yankees do it, people flip. Blame the system, and don't act for a second like other teams wouldn't do this if they had the coin like the Yankees do.

I posted this in the Boys of summer thread, but then realized we have a Yankees thread. Besides, a Yankees fan can appreciate this more than a Red Sox fan! lol

Allow me to brag on my sons for a minute. I've been a Yankees fan since the late 50's. Always wanted to get to Yankee Stadium, but our family never had that kind of money when I was young. Fast forward.....It's the last year for the original stadium. My four sons call me and tell me were's taking a road trip on Memorial Day weekend to NY for a Yankees game. That in itself made my day. We're in the stands on Saturday and it's between innings. I look up at the scoreboard and saw this.

I was speechless. I couldn't thank them right away, because my eyes were starting to water. lol

A lot of teams actually do have the money the Yankees do but the owners would rather line their pockets than reinvest in the team.

This. I have never held it against the Yanks for trying to win....

Good news. Kuroda was a bright spot in a somewhat dismal bullpen.

I like the moves the Yankees have made so far (overpaid a little for Ellsbury, but that's the price of FA). Really think that the Yanks are a power hitter (Cano?) and ace (Tanaka?) away from being legitimate contenders.

I've been pretty confident that Cano has very little desire to leave the Yankees, especially not for a team like Seattle. So much monetary value in being a lifetime Yankee. Yankees know this, so they're playing hardball. I think in the end Cano will sign with the Yankees for something like 8 years, 190 million.

Still think the Yankees don't really care about 189 anymore and we will get Tanaka too in addition to one more hitter.

Unfortunately I think the new posting rules will take us out of the running for Tanaka.

Definitely good news. I thought these negotiations would drag into January.

IMO Kuroda should start the year in extended spring training to avoid arm fatigue in the second half of the season in 2014.

Agreed. Maybe the $189M line in the sand was a smoke screen?

From what I understand the new posting rules would put a cap on how much teams can bid. From there, the player could choose which team to negotiate with. Why wouldn't Tanaka pick the Yankees. They have the most money, are in a top 3 market for Asian Americans and Ichiro/Kuroda are on the team...

Because I know while you disagree, I still think the Yankees are committed to being under 189 this year. The reason Tanaka was so viable before was because we could post a huge posting fee that doesn't count against the 189, and then sign him to a cap friendly deal. Now, with the posting fees capped at 20 million, more teams will be in the mix, meaning more salary dollars, which means the Yankees probably can't spend enough to get him while still being under $189.

Well with Cano likely going to the Mariners now it won't be difficult to stay under 189. We will likely never know whether they were going to stay under or not.

If Cano wants 9 years, over 225, I am glad the Yankees aren't ponying up. Have fun in Seattle bro.
