Dont most catchers have pine tar on their shin guards for this same exact reason?

Stupid rule. Even stupider that he got caught.

It's not about what he did, it's about the fact that it WAS ON HIS NECK.

I read an article that put it a good way. You're probably not going to get in trouble for underage drinking in college if you keep it pretty quiet and in your dorm room, but you WILL get busted if you're rolling a keg down the hall and invite your RA to join you.

It's pretty well-known that a lot pitchers in the league use some sort of substance on the ball, which most players accept is part of the game and have no problem. However when you're making it that obvious, you're going to get called out on it. Especially since that fiasco a few weeks ago.

Yes according to Tim Kirkjen on BBTN last night. This guy has to be a complete idiot to do this. This shit bothers me w baseball. Here is something to ponder, why aren't the umps policing this shit? Why is it up to a Manager to bring it to their attention before they go check the player. Are you telling me none of the umps on the field could see this on his neck? Do you think that none of them saw the same shit on the back of his arm 2 weeks ago in NY?

Baseballs "unwritten rules" is what got the whole steroid thing going, guys just trying to get an edge. Just don't let people see you do it. Everyone knows it's going on but nobody (except Schilling in the case of Roids) had the balls to say anything. Then they all bitch about HOF voting. They should have come out against them during their career.

Easily one of today's greatest names in baseball. Derek Jeter. Great video, thanks for sharing.

Thanks for posting. I've been a Yankees fan since the late 50's. Jeter rates right up there with DiMaggio, Mantle, Ruth, Gehrig, Ford, Berra, Jackson and Rivera.

A lot of people have knocked him for never being the best SS to play during his time, but when the chips were on the line, he was clutch. His back handed flip against Oakland in the playoffs is one of the all time greatest moments in baseball.

Derek Jeter went 3 for 4 tonight and took over 7th Place on the MLB All-Time Hit List with 3,420 passing that Y guy from Beantown.

Jeter needs 11 hits to pass Honus Wagner.

He'll need a miracle finish to catch Tris Speaker in 5th place with 3,515.

Would love to see him get to #5, but I agree, he'd need a miracle finish and at his age I don't think it's possible.

Another multiple hit night, 2-4. Trails Wagner by 8.

He's 8 for last 15 over the past 4 games and at that pace he'd soar by Speaker.

Of course prior to the current 4 game bulge he was only 2-13.

Based on the number of games NY has played, the number Jeter has played, and his hits per game he projects to 160 hits for the season which would put him at 3,474, 41 hits short of Speaker.

If my math is correct he'd have to hit at a .450 clip for the rest of the season for a 201 hit season to catch Speaker.

as much as i hate the yankees, i really wish he could have stayed healthy and played long enough to catch pete rose.

can't think of a better ambassador for that spot than him. wish he could have played in boston!!

it's crazy to think that the all time hits leader and home run leader will probably never enter the hall of fame.

Rose would probably be in already if he would have just told the truth up front and apologized. His stubborn, "I'll beat you anyway I can" attitude that served him so well in baseball caused him to miss out on the HOF.

I wonder what Babe's or Hank's HR numbers would be if they juiced like Bonds and McQuire?

I admired Charlie Hustle until he became Charlie Hustler.

Rose negotiated his fate with Giamatti and then welched on that settlement.

I think it's crazy that Shoeless Joe isn't in the HOF.

Jeter got hit # 3,430 Friday night tying him with Honus Wagner for 6th on the All-Time hit list.

Jeter needs 85 hits to catch Tris Speaker for 5th place. He'd have to average 2.3 hits/game for all of the Yankees remaining games. He's averaging 1.2 hits/game played this year.

He also scored his 1,914th run and needs to score 6 more times to take over 9th place on the All-Time Run Scored list from ARod.

He needs 36 more runs to overtake Stan The Man for 8th place. Very unlikely with 37 games to go considering NY's lack of run scoring. Jeter's only scored 38 runs for the season by far the lowest total in his career.

He should end up passing A-Rod. #5 on the all time hit list isn't too shabby.

He should pull a Brett Favre and come back next year and take care of some of these numbers.

Jeter legged out an another infield hit to move ahead of The Flying Dutchman.
For an old man Jeter seems to have a lot of infield hits this year.

I love that he's not mailing it in this year, but you wouldn't expect anything different out of him.

From a no-hitter to a walk off win in two innings. Maybe this Yankee team does have some heart.

The Yankees are likely out of it but wouldn't making the playoffs by winning 17/20 or something like that to get in be the most "Jeter" way to end his career?

That's why I'm holding out hope.
