Longtime Yankee hitting coach, Kevin Long, was sacked after 8 sesasons due to NY's puny offense.

Meanwhile GM Brian Cashman, who signed those worn out players Long had to coach, was re-signed for a 3 year deal.

Hey, somebody had to go under the Steinbrenner bus.

To lay last year on Long is ridiculus...he had absolute crap to work with. Cashman gets to stick around...ugh!

That's saying a lot when you have the money the Yanks have to spend. Imagine how bad he'd be if he worked in a a small market?

Yep, completely agree. I don't have a lot of hope for this team in the near future.

I think next year will be the worst Yankees team since before the Jeter era. Just saw today that it was the anniversery of Matsui signing in 02. I would definitely take Matsui at that point in his career over any player in the current Yankees lineup where as on that team he was an important piece, but no where near top dog.

Loss of Hiroki Kuroda means Yankees have work to do in rotation - CBSSports.com

•The newly acquired Nathan Eovaldi underwent Tommy John surgery in high school and lost roughly three months to a shoulder injury in 2013. He's coming off a 2014 season in which he posted by a wide margin his highest innings total at the major-league level.

•Ace emeritus CC Sabathia is 34 years of age and this past season was limited to just eight starts because of a serious and chronic knee problem.

•Rookie standout Masahiro Tanaka was sidelined two-and-a-half months with a partially torn UCL.

•Right-hander Michael Pineda, who of course lost two full seasons to a torn labrum, in 2014 was limited to 76 1/3 innings because of residual shoulder problems.

Let's also keep in mind that recent trades involving David Phelps and Shane Greene have thinned out the depth at the big-league level. On the upside there's ... 36-year-old Chris Capuano. Maybe Ivan Nova returns from late April Tommy John surgery in time to contribute for the bulk of the season, but the Yankees certainly can't bank on that.

The Yankees traded pitcher Manny Banuelos to the Braves in exchange for pitcher David Carpenter and pitcher Chasen Shreve, confirms CBSSports.com Baseball Insider Jon Heyman. YES Network was the first to report the deal.

The former top-100 prospect Banuelos went 2-3 with a 4.11 ERA over 26 minor-league appearances (25 starts) in 2014. He pitched at Class A, Double-A and Triple-A. He missed the 2013 season due to Tommy John surgery.

Carpenter went 6-4 with a 3.54 ERA and three saves in 65 outings for Atlanta in 2014. He is 11-10 with a 3.62 ERA over four seasons in the majors. He has also pitched for Houston and Toronto.

The 24-year-old Shreve made his MLB debut in 2014, posting a 0.73 ERA and 1.05 WHIP in 15 relief appearances. He also had 15 strikeouts in 12 1/3 innings.

Headley, Gregorius, Drew, and Teixeira ... possibly the first Yankee infield to collectively hit less than they weigh.

I'm wondering how Cashman keeps his job. We've need pitching for so long and he continues to sign guys that can't contribute with a bat.

Two starting studs goes a long way in covering up players who can't hit.

The 2016 free agent market isn't going to be filled with much help either. I could see them going after Johnny Cueto and David Price but the bats just won't be there.
