Are they signing kids right out of HS?

I'm not sure if that's still on the table but at one point it was.

Found this salary explanation too:

I have to say this go around it definitely feels like a much better league. I’ve enjoyed both games today.

Watched bits of both games. Decent standard good crowds. Are there any ND players involved?

Dallas Renegades playing in reconfigured Globe Life Park (Texas Rangers old stadium, as they begin play this season in brand new domed stadium next door and adjacent to Cowboys ATT Stadium). Head Coach is Bob Stoops.

Jarron Jones starting LT for New York Guardians
Scott Daly starting LS for NY Guardians
Greer Martini starting ILB for Dallas Renegades
Nyles Morgan backup MLB for Seattle Dragons
Tarean Folston is on IR for Tampa Bay Vipers

https://www.onefootdown.com/2020/2/...ers-to-watch-tv-rules-football-tampa-la-dc-ny

Disappointed Folston is on the IR. I got tickets to the Tampa game against my home area battlehawks and it would’ve been cool to see Folston play in person.

all my VBucks this league doesn't make it to a 3rd season

Word is Vince is expecting to take a loss the first 2-3 years, but he's committed to absorbing the loss and get a decent TV deal sometime before or after the 3rd year which will then allow them to start making money.

I think the NFL will look hard at some of the XFL innovations. I like the kickoff being reconfigured.

I only caught Daly in action as a LS.

QB play was all around woeful but I suppose that’s to be expected in opening week. Aaron Murray looked especially bad.

I only saw the last quarter-ish of the last game in Dallas... and it was pretty bad football... I did only catch the last few possessions of each team though in fairness.

A tree fell in this thread. Anyone hear it?

I watched the first week and never again. The TV ratings seem to show I'm not the only one.

Love the kickoff rule and OT rule. Aside from that, I have baseball now.

I've tuned in sparingly, but feel like they really should have waited and made this a late spring/early summer league.

Gives people enough time to really crave football again, and the league would avoid getting blown out in ratings trying to compete with March Madness and The Masters.

With all the options we have now, I don't see how anyone is going to really give a crap.

This has nothing to do with it's popularity though, and McMahon has already said he's committed to it for at least the first three years I think. This certainly sets them back though if they plan on reaping their money after year 3 /w improved TV deals.

Some random information passed by me so I thought I'd take a brief look. I wondered who (university-wise) signed to play in this league. So I just counted in the rosters. I don't know if you can make anything out of this, but I thought that I'd toss it into IE for whatever it's worth.

A few bits:
1. Auburn has the most XFL players (9); LSU is next (8); Florida is next (7); Missouri, Michigan, Maryland, Oklahoma, Baylor all have 6. Some of those names are "odd" to me but the numbers are small;
2. ND has four --- about average for a power football school;
3. The big surprise for me was Alabama --- only two. I don't think that this can be lightly waved off by saying that all their players make the NFL --- they don't. So why only two?

I have a speculation: I think that if you want to play in the XFL your life must meet at least two "conditions": a.) you REALLY want to continue to play football; and b.) you have nothing better to do. IF you have something better to do, then you probably are less likely to be an "a".

I can see why ND players see something better to do (Stanford has only 1 guy; Duke zero) but what do the Alabama guys have? Hmmmmm ... could the Alabama Big Daddies be making good on their (illegal) promises to "take care of my boys" after "graduation?"

Yes, you're right; it's a very biased opinion --- but I am SO positive that MANY southern schools have these sorts of sugar daddies that I'm putting this out there and to-he!l-with-it. Alabama is King of everything in College Football, and anyone who believes that they aren't the cleverest kings at this is pretty naive. IMO

I don’t know man. The average XFL salary is $55,000, and that’s only for a 10 week season. That’s about in line with the national median household income and considerably more than the ~$42,000 an average Alabama graduate can expect to make.

I’m willing to bet that even if you were getting side money, you’d be willing to take a job that’s only seasonal for 55k. The only way your theory makes sense is if instead of just getting paid they are hooked up with sham jobs that prevents them from participating in the XFL.

I never follow on when folks object to posts but (mainly since this is a very slow time for anything football, which is why I bothered to give "us" something to read anyway) I'll say a bit more:

I've had three brothers play big time college football (VT, ECU, Cincy --- all O&DLinemen) and they knew what I assumed everyone does: that many schools especially in the south have notorious bagmen (One famous one who worked SEC for a while and ACC later --- I believe MS-State and I know UNC-- had the nickname "Black Jesus", because he carried both a Bible and a Bag of Cash into recruits homes. I talked in-office with a college offensive coach about this exact phenomenon. I won't tell you which one, as it was confidential.)

They also knew that almost every school had big donor supporters who operated "independently" (plausible deniability) from any formal connection to the schools. They also knew of players who were injured playing and mysteriously got well-paying dud jobs at certain businesses. Some players who were loyal soldiers mysteriously got good jobs from grateful employers --- but how do you prove that this influenced recruiting in earlier years?

So, have whatever opinion you wish --- your choice. I would at least hope, however, that the "secret" promise of post-football employment (or family "benefits") is at least a possibility in everyone's streetwise mind. "Wrong" is possible for my post on the XFL player numbers; but "absurd" is not quite a reasonable viewpoint either.

Mike, the XFL shuttered a couple weeks, one of the first leagues to be axed by COVID but certainly not the last.

I'm not real sure how many of 'Our' regulars have attended schools other than, Our Mother's, but what you relate to Is very real and obvious.
If Tricky Nick can give his kids a Mercedes Benz from his car dealership in Tuscaloosa and It not make news... then telling people that envelopes regardless of the color (regardless of the envelope )have green all over the inside, and trying to make them understand is just as silly.
We that know... just know. Those with horse blinders on will stay that way, no matter the amount of evidence that is put forth, and as misleading as they want their news to be....

In 1967 the CIA put out a memo to all new's agencies that stated in one way or another; Conspiracy Theorists should be talked about in a way that benefits the state. The CIA came up with the phrase "Conspiracy Theorist". Why would they need to do that?

I’m sure everybody of this site except (except for maybe that one Bama fan) is pretty sure or at least suspicious that Alabama is giving its recruits/players illegal benefits. But saying that correlates to the lack of Bama players in the XFL is just grasping at straws. It’s unlikely that ALL these players are getting enough to be set for life where they wouldn’t need an opportunity like playing in the XFL. If that where the case, then they wouldn’t need to play in the NFL either.
