Don't understand McMahon's decision to exclude anyone with a criminal charge? I feel like he's really limiting the players he can choose from then, which also goes against the culture I'd expect he's going for?

Must be a liability thing?

Btw, did y'all know that Johnny was signed by a CFL team? And that he's holding out for money because he wants to be the highest paid player in the league?

BK maybe able to finally make it to the (semi) Pro's!

Just fyi, I had post this in the Brian Kelly Revisited thread earlier

Once the inevitable XFL revival is announced today, I'm ready to lob a "Brian Kelly is interviewing with the San Francisco Demons" rumor into Rock's House and watch NDN self-destruct.
— 1st Down Moses (@1stDownMoses) January 25, 2018

The XFL's problem the first time around was that there was too much gimmicky shit and too much emphasis on the "bad boy" stuff, when there was actual quality football being played.

The decent quality of football got drowned out by all the other noise. I think they learned from those lessons, and are going to make this version much closer to a clean, no-nonsense product.

There is a LOT of money to be made if they play it the way I think they actually intend on going, which is as a minor league to the NFL, where they can offer top high school prospects decent contracts and payment for their services for three years until they're ready for the big league, and where they can offer former college stars or name-brand NFL washouts the chance to keep playing.

It will never be as "good" as the NFL, but it will be home to young stars with NFL dreams, as well as recognizable names that can play quality football.

I really hope they let players join right out of high school. It could really help even the playing field for us.

and hopefully less juco players going to fbs schools instead going straight to xfl before getting drafted in NFL

Semi-serious question... Could Vince inadvertently save college football in this whole process? The 'crooting game is going to be a lot less dirty if all of the kids looking to get paid go to the XFL.

Literally having this discussion right now in my office. If kids can play a year or two in college and "star"... and then get offered a six figure salary from the XFL... a lot of them are going to bounce. Muarice Clarrett, etc. would've gone to the XFL for sure if they offered him like $200k.

I’d take it a step further, and say some of the generational recruits will sign XFL straight out of high school.

A guy like Leonard Fournette could’ve signed a 3-year XFL contract straight out of high school, developing on the field AND earning a paycheck while waiting out the NFL’s 3-year rule.

Let's be honest. Will the XFL actually have better talent on the field than your average Top 25 college football team? All I see playing in the XFL are a bunch of wannabes and washed up ex players/retired dudes. Thrown in your talented high ceiling college sophomores.

The 1st generation XFL's best player, HE HATE ME, played at Western Kentucky. Not exactly a football blue blood or top 25 regular.

I would definitely give the physicality aspect to the XFL but only because it'll be a bunch of steroid shooters/pill poppers.

With that said, I'll be watching.

My understanding is that they're dropping all of the "extreme" stuff. No more strippers and whatnot.

When will McMahon learn to stay in his lane...there goes Ahab again, chasing the white whale...this thing is DOA.

The NFL had a brutal year overall in 2017 to be sure; but there will NEVER...EVER be a legit threat to it in professional football.

EVER

we got college football, we got the NFL...(and high school for many)...and that's it.

I have a headache already anticipating having to listen to this McMahon for the next 2 years hyping his garbage league.

...PLEASE crunch the numbers between the three, for me. We'll see who has the more bigger steroid problem.

I'll wait...

World is not the same as it was at the first launch. I think there is room. As others have said...Many kids will find a good living at 18, and maybe turn that into a pro career...and stop playing school. Maybe VM will set aside educational funds for after the XFL...who knows...but he is right...he has the chance to re-imagine the operating paradigm and the game, and it could be good.

The culture that is created is critical for the XFL to be a suitable substitute for the NCAA...ie, the game can't be a farse, and the organizations need to be serious, and they need to establish a way to mentor young players, and keep them out of trouble.

If he turns it into a respectable "trade school" option to the NCAA, he might be on to something.

I'm hoping he pulls it off.

Eh. I'll check it out when the time comes but I'll probably forget it long before it launches, if it does. The old XFL was good for a laugh if nothing else but I do think having a semi-pro league other than college(Which it basically is) isn't a bad thing.

These off leagues always pump out the worst uniforms. I dont understand. Keep it simple and people will take you more seriously. It is impossible to take this seriously:

Honest question, how do you know? The only guy in college I remember getting busted for steroids was the QB from the Gators. Obviously, he’s not the only one doing it. Seems like testing at the NCAA level isn’t very good.

Vince does have a good point. So many of us cry after the superbowl saying we have to wait 7 months for football.. There is a demand for more football if done right...

You guys are lying if in 2020 opening night in Feb, you have Johnny Manziel led Las Vegas Outlaws, vs Colin Kaepernick's La Extreme... You are going to watch... The key is to not make it gimmicky and I think you have something. Also heard Vince is looking to do 2 halves, and have no commercials during the half, much like soccer.. Keep the game around 2-2 1/2 hours long... I think it could work

No it will not compete against NFL or CFB, but can it compete to an alternative to games 50 through 80 in NBA and NHL? Yeah I think it can, no one cares about those sports until playoffs anyway
