The only problem with that, it is still a judgment call. What one ref sees a penalty, another won't.

I guess it is, but it is pretty clear to everyone what the true judgement of a call should be. It's like any other sports, refs are coached to call certain plays and others not. With video review, it should be easy to identify which is which. Soccer has such a huge playing surface and a fast pace that it is hard for the ref to always be in a good position. I don't know, I guess penalties would make sense to me.

I am very much for wide spread retroactive red cards/ bans/ fines for players who clearly flop... and player history can absolutely play into it in terms of who gets hit harder and who gets a very tainted reputation (which I think would matter)... I understand safety and not allowing players to tackle like they did in the 60's, 70's and 80's, even into the 90's but the negative of that is now every little BS contact warrants a Luis Suarez to flop around like a damn fish on the deck of a boat until a foul is called… why? Because the calls are so geared to keep players safe that these tic tac things are often called… it would be wise to actually enforce punishments on players taking advantage… it’s a total black mark on the sport imo.

Think you man :) LOL
Are you the new Grammar/Spelling Hammer here on the board? Can't a guy type and treadmill without being corrected...

Oh that ain't a grammar thing, thats a personal pet peeve.
And besides, I ain't the new grammar nothing, I'm just learning from the best...the legendary D'shizzle Dshan.

Are you aware you said 'think' instead of 'thank'?? Very ironic.

Should have been a red card on the home team IMO, stop this 'influencing the game' garbage right there. And for those on the 'never kick a kid' bus, 'never have a stupid kids then'

Fix'd it for you. People should just stop having stupid kids. Basically, stop having kids.

Get off the damn treadmill while texting. Multi-tasking is fallacy. Each task suffers from a level of inattention, in rotation.

The Grammar Hammer is Public Domain.

Funny how I was just bringing you up and boom! you show. You sniff out bad grammarism don't you?

The Suarez bite followed directly by an egregious flop was one of the more offensive displays I've seen in sports.

Suarez better not play another game in the World Cup this year. He has issues that he needs to fix.

Thoughts on the early games?

The team I wanted to advance out of this group was Bosnia, who are eliminated. IMO, they've looked pretty good and have been unfortunate not to have scored a goal yet. They could easily have taken at least a point from Nigeria; that was one damned lucky goal Nigeria scored. And they had some decent chances against Argentina too. I guess I'm just hoping they ruin things for Iran.

Thought this was interesting -- if Nigeria loses and Iran wins, it could easily come down to a coin flip:

If Nigeria loses to Argentina and Iran beats Bosnia, here’s where things could get interesting. The tiebreaker will come down to the final scores of each game. If Iran wins and Nigeria loses by the same one-goal score (1-0, 2-1 or 3-2, for instance), FIFA would be forced to pick a name out of a hat to determine who advances, as the teams — who played to a 0-0 draw on June 16 — would have the same number of points, the same goal differential and the same number of goals scored.

Uruguay has really relied on Suarez. There was no punch to their attack against the Ticos, with Suarez out, and both goals against England were due to great individual efforts by Suarez.

I guess my answer might depend on who would play for him. Forlan was a force in South Africa but not sure he can duplicate that performance now, 4 years older.

Messi

:allhail:

Dude, like for real, here in Argentina you can't imagine the way they look at Messi. EVERY building/billboard/sign/ad/commercial...etc features Messi.
Its crazy, you got Messi and Pope Francis both from here and ...its hard to see which one is more popular.

They keep talking about "Messi dependence" like that's something you can avoid. When you have a player who instantly and by himself bumps you up to a level you couldn't have otherwise reached, there's a sense in which you will always be dependent on him. That's just how good he is.

But really, 4 goals before we are even out of the group?? It's crazy.

That's how scary good he is... it's not like Argentia needs 'bumping up' in soccer... they are and have been a world power... and he shines to that degree on their squad.
