Greg Schiano expected be named Patriots defensive coordinator
Ohio State's top assistant is leaving for New England, according to reports.

Ohio State defensive coordinator Greg Schiano is expected to be named the new DC for the New England Patriots, replacing Matt Patricia who is leaving for the Detroit Lions, sources have told Football Scoop.

Schiano, a New Jersey native, has spent the last two seasons as Urban Meyer's leader on defense for the Buckeyes and last coached in the NFL in 2013.

Schiano's previous NFL experience features three seasons as a defensive assistant with the Chicago Bears in the late 1990s and two years as the Tampa Bay Buccaneers head coach from 2012-13, going 11-21.

The Patriots struggled defensively on third down during Sunday's Super Bowl 52 loss and couldn't get off the field when they needed to most against the Philadelphia Eagles. New England failed in its bid for back-to-back titles despite accumulating 613 yards, the most gained by any losing team in league history.

Awesome. Love that this is happening so fast there's no way OSU can cover it up enough before NPF signs.

Dang I hope we get him.

ISD reporting that there are conflicting reports, but some sources at Florida are very confident they get him.

Plus - from how NPF is conducting his recruitment, my assumption is that a coach is not the primary reason for his decision.

Can't be a bad thing, obviously, but I'm sure he'll say it wasn't a deciding factor.

I agree, but if it's a 51/49 thing, us signing his teammate and OSU losing his family friend as a coach can make a difference when it's neck and neck.

NPF was at Ohio State this weekend, right? Any post-visit word?

Like you said, Schiano leaving can’t help OSU. How much it hurts? Who knows. I think this boils down to a “stay home” or “head north” decision for him. Then if it’s “head north” he’s got two very different programs to choose from.

WIAH: On Petit-Frere; elite DB advantages; good looking Buckeye
What I am hearing on Nicholas Petit-Frere, advantages with an elite DB, and a good looking future Buckeye.

Basically says it's an open race... ND, Florida, Alabama, Ohio State. No one knows which way he is truly leaning.

Given his recruitment up to this point, I didn't think we would hear any earth shattering info about which way he was leaning coming off of his pOSU visit.

It's kind of fun listening to all the analysts keep answering the same question about where NPF is leaning. They all have no idea and it is glorious.

Was on Loy’s confidence meter. I like to have his confidence about all aspects of my life.

So, from what I am extrapolating, the odds are:

Brown - excellent
Eason - excellent
C'Bo - very good
Keys - very good
NPF - even
Patterson - fair
Boykin - fair

I'd be like --
Brown = lock
Eason = lock
C'Bo = almost-lock
Keys = favorite
NPF = anywhere from poor-to-good depending on where you read but I always feel like ND gets over-hyped in these "close races" so I'm gonna say less than 50%
Patterson = coin flip
Boykin = don't see it happening

Pretty unanimous among the sites that season Eason is a done deal. Didn’t even have the NCSU coaches in-home this last week. I’d agree that Brown and C’Bo are locks as well. Growing confidence in ND for NPF. Even Bill K at fucknuts said he’d role with ND at this time. But that could change quickly.

I think we land Petit-Frere.

Very little out there, but Quinn and the staff have worked OT to stay on top of this kid.

Props to the staff for the hard work down the stretch, seems like we could be having one of our most productive NSD in a while. Landing one of NPF/Patterson would be the icing on the cake of a really nice class. Landing both would be insanity.

Landing both would be YUGE. Don’t want to get my hopes up but closing with C’Bo, Eason, Brown, Keys, Patterson, and NPF would be incredible.
