Whatever the ratio (and while board sentiment may have been 50-50, the doubters, as usual, tended to make more noise), Tillery will be that rare recruit to have 1,500+ posts in his thread on Signing Day and still wind up Irish.
It ain't over til Mora gets that NFL gig.

I'd assume Tevon

Tevon doesn't look 6'6" 305, like he's listed. Hoge dwarfs him. I know people aren't huge on moving kids around, but he should move to LB. :)

BOLD PREDICTION: Tillery is Class President before he leaves.

Huh??? He asked who was between Hoge and Tillery. It's Hoge, Tevon, Tillery, and MDT.

Hope you brought plenty of hats, gloves, and scarves, Jerry! They're not a seasonal affectation in South Bend.

Expectations for Jerry Tillery sky high | Inside the Irish

from BK

“Far and away the story is Jerry Tillery. He’s just a unique player. One that I can’t remember that I’ve coached,” Kelly said Wednesday. “He’s running with our first group and continues to impress. Today in our 3 on 3 drill, they had a tough time blocking him.”

With Jarron Jones out and Sheldon Day on a coaches-imposed pitch count, young defensive linemen like Tillery and Jay Hayes have had all the reps they could ask for at the three-technique. But in Tillery, Notre Dame has an athlete with the size to play inside by the length and athleticism to play on the edge.

At a legit 6’6″, 300 pounds (Tillery’s officially 6’6.5″ on Notre Dame’s spring roster, shorter than only Mike McGlinchey on the scholarship roster), the freshman has a body that looks far leaner than most 300-pounders, let alone freshmen.

And while some thought he’d be raw as a defensive lineman, Kelly raved about his advanced skill set, crediting the work he did as a high schooler for having him so prepared to compete.

“He has a unique ability at such a young age to use his hands,” Kelly said. “He has had incredible teaching. One of the all-time great defensive line coaches is Pete Jenkins, if you research him at all, he’s revered as one of the great ones, and he’s gotten the chance to coach him. You can see it, in his ability to use his hands.”

With Ronnie Stanley and Mike McGlinchey locked into the offensive tackle jobs, Tillery looked like a redshirt candidate as an offensive player. But along a defensive line that’s still incredibly young, Tillery is quickly making it hard for Kelly to tamp down expectations.

“Where we spend the first year-and-a-half trying to get these kids to not drop their head and be over-extended, he immediately can shoot his hands and use his size to his advantage,” Kelly said. “I don’t want to put him in the hall of fame, I’m so leery to talk about a freshman, but he’s a unique talent.”

These are great points. Give me more Tillery's and Jaylon Smith's. This roster we have now is the closest thing we have had to a Holtz type roster, since well, Holtz. It's gonna be better when we finally take the ship because it will have been done right by kids that truly get it.

Are there more? I am believing we got 100% of the "Tillery's and Jaylon Smith's;" but here is to there being a few more!

At any rate, I think that Tillery, if as good as advertised, should have been a five star. He does things the best in the previous classes didn't do if you believe his coach and sources from ND!

If Tillery is as good as advertised, then he's the top ranked DT in the 2015 class. That being said, he did A LOT of work to get to this point after the season ended. Not to mention that all the sites had him ranked as an OT.

Every time I see something involving this kid I have to laugh, remembering how certain the majority of posters were that ol' Jerry was playing UND!

He's got the chest!

But more importantly, he's got...

I hope this kid turns out to be twice as good as even the most optimistic evaluations. This kid is thoughtful, articulate, and humble. Did you hear what he said about having to embrace coaching and correction, if you want to be great? This kid appears to be INCREDIBLY self aware and dedicated to being great. And probably not just in football.

May the good Lord bless you, Jerry Tillery, with all of the success (on and off the field) that one man can possibly handle!

Agree..........I've already said it a couple of times in this thread, but ever since he made it a point to meet Father Ted, I always knew this kid was wise beyond his years. That was also when I knew he'd be Irish.

Reminds me a lot of Manti Teo in that he is all those things you mentioned but a gladiator on the field. When I see shots of Tillery whether its the tire drill or 1 on 1's he looks like he's ready for war. Gentlemen in society but gladiator on the field, something of that nature.
