Offered the other day. Per 247 he is committed to Tennessee with a Top 5 that also includes Miami, LSU, Notre Dame and USC. Alford had been recruiting him hard and he was "geeked" about the offer

Frostproof is a lil a$$ town smaack in the middle of the state (maybe 3000 pop). Cant imagine the school being to big but looking at maxpreps they seem to be crushing their opponents this yr! Knowing the county and the area, academics would be my main concern here....

For being a very small school they do produce Division 1 talent and Tennessee usually pulls it, until Nickell Robey went to USC. Travis Henry is another Frostproof alum.

WOW! I like this guy! The hit he puts on the young man coming to block him on kickoff at around the 20 second mark, haha, I scrolled back to check to see if the poor kid was moving ANY after that explosion! Can you imagine practice, going thru one on one drills (I refuse to call them by the usual name this week)? I bet most of the team does their best to get out of lining up against him!

Freebie from Scout
Scout.com: Cherry adds Notre Dame

With one of the most impressive offer lists in the country for not only a junior, but any elite prospect, middle linebacker Cecil Cherry most recently lengthen that list by picking up an offer from Notre Dame.

"I was pretty surprised by the offer," Cherry, who committed to Tennessee in June, said. "I got in touch with [recruiting coordinator] Coach (Tony) Alford, and he just told me Notre Dame likes how physical of a linebacker I am and what I can bring to the table."

"I bring my all every time," Cherry said. "I love football and it shows on the field every time."

Cherry isn't bothered by the attention from other schools despite being a committed recruit.

"I'm solid to Tennessee right now, but you always need a backup plan," Cherry said.

Cherry said there are a few things that piques his interest right off the bat about the Irish.

"Notre Dame is known for having great linebackers," Cherry said. "They are a good school with a great education and fan base."

Cherry plans to visit Alabama for the Tennessee game this year and hit Knoxville sometime later this season. He has taken a trip to Miami this season as well.

"I'll save my big trips for senior year," Cherry said. "I'll keep Notre Dame in consideration."

Cherry is a four-star prospect and is ranked as the No. 10 middle linebacker in 2015.

That has to have Tennessee feeling all warm and fuzzy inside - the ol' "I'm solid til I ain't" lol

I guess he ended up at Texas... and now is transferring before even playing a snap. Woof.

What in the hell is happening at Texas?

I like Strong, but he is taking a huge gamble with this hardnosed strategy that pushes players out of the program. He's lost five offensive linemen and a top end LB and the season hasn't even started yet. Sure, those that are left will be committed to the program, but who is gonna be left?

He'll either look like a genius or an idiot.
