Don't know if this has been discussed but...
Are all Rb's going to be recruited now that can play Z?
Tony Alford coaches them as a single unit, since there's a large amount of overlap between the skills needed to play both positions.
Practically speaking, some guys are exclusively Z WRs, some are exclusively RBs, and some are hybrids. But it's often to hard to tell how any given recruit will shake out, so I group them together for depth chart purposes.
Ok.
From the 14 offer list don't you think they are going 1 power back and 1 hybrid or Z?
For example Hood looks like a power back
Then guys like Mixon are those quick shifty guys
I could see them taking 1 RB (at most) if it's an elite "can't miss" prospect, mainly because we're already full at RB/ Z WR with 8/8. If Folston jumps on board, we'll be overloaded at 9/8.
Overloading creates problems: (1) too few reps to spread among too many talented players; (2) increased chance of transferring/ disgruntled players, since several won't see field; and (3) it prevents us from maintaining ideal depth at other positions.
Some recruits just can't be turned away. Sony Michel is definitely in that category, and Elijah Hood might be as well. In that case, we might have to shift a RB/ Z WRs to DB to make room.
Long story short, we're full at RB/ Z WR right now, and might be overloaded heading into 2014. So I don't see the staff accepting a verbal commitment from such a player unless they're truly elite, especially not this early in the cycle.

Good point. This is how I have it looking.
2013
At RB
Will Mahone (Rs Fr)
GA3 (Jr)
Greg Bryant (Fr)
At Z
Davonte Neal (SO)
? Will Fuller (Fr)
Hybrid
? James Onwualu (FR) I think I read/heard this is what they want him as.
? Cam Mc (Jr)
? Amir C (Rs So)
??? Tarean F (Fr)
That's exactly how I'd sort them, though if Onwualu starts his career as a hybrid RB/ Z WR, then Fuller probably start at X/W WR.

I think it will be interesting to see how Kelly does in the south in 2014. ND "is back" but recruiting in the south is hard
I agree going into the deep south Alabama, Mississippi, Louisiana is always tough, but we have a presence in Florida (and you have a ton of kids) and we've done ok in Georgia and South Carolina. I am curious how you think the ACC affiliation will sell on the East Coast and down into the southeast with kids going forward. I would think it couldn't hurt.

Except that Kelly and ND don't and aren't essentially recruiting only the South-- they're recruiting the entire nation (more so than any other program). So winning the "big battles" in the South isn't nearly as important as it is for teams that are.
Kelly will win some and lose some when it comes to recruiting kids down there-- same as all the other coaches out there.
