Yep. I think BK is an asshole who is stubborn and has underachieved, but ND didn't have any better options in 2016. Also, I would hate to see ND turn into the Browns/ Jags/ Jets of college football because of lack of stability at the top.

I don't think that the Browns/Jags/Jets problem is lack of stability at the top. Why would you want stability when it means 1-15 year after year? In both those cases and in ND's case it is about having the right guy. In the NFL, that guy is the QB. In college, that guy is the head coach.

As we all know a good coach can turn around a college program immediately- see Harbaugh last year. He achieved in his first year the same record we had last year (and what was the second best record in 7 years of BK). This year they will probably go 11-2 and win a big bowl game. In year 2. Without 'his recruits' even showing up in Ann Arbor yet. There is no point in stability if your guy -whether a QB in the NFL or a HC in college- doesn't have "it." And our guy doesn't.

In the NFL it isn't all about having the QB. Who drafts the QB's? It starts with the Pres & GM. Why are those teams consistently lacking at QB? The GM keeps making stupid picks at QB. Even when you have one of the best QB's he can't be successful when he doesn't have a good supporting staff, which also fall upon the GM. My Colts have one of the best QB's in the league, but Luck has struggled because the GM has failed to put a good O-line in front of him. The number of sacks, hits and pressures he's suffered in the last three years far outpaces any other team.

Obviously there is more to a team than those positions; the NFL QB and college HC are necessary, not sufficient, in achieving success. My point is that there is no virtue in "stability" if the personnel at those spots is inadequate.

Right. So given all the coaches those 3 organizations have ripped through in the past 10 years, did the teams just wiff or is the whole thing such a mess that any coach who takes the job setting themselves up for failure?

Bill O'Brien

Interesting fact. He was the offensive coordinator for Notre Dame for a few days under George O'Leary. Until O'Leary admitted to lying on his resume and was fired.

What could have been.

I want a defensive minded HC. Chris Klieman from NDSU is our guy, he's got everything you want

No thanks. He's not a good coach. Maybe a solid D Coordinator though. That position would still more than triple his salary.

Fun fact, multiple ndsu coaches have gotten opportunities to coach in the fbs, all have failed, at times, tremendously.

Bohl is on an upward curve at Wyoming.

This is true, he's also old. Doubt he'll ever get a great job. I believe he has owned land there for some time. His dream was Nebraska but he got run out of town after Colorado and Miami games in '02. Also was bangin co-eds like an older PJ.

He's also stated he would look at other coaching positions, not just HC. He's made the big money, so he probably realizes life is a lot easier as an assistant.

Can't decide if he'd be a terrible recruiter or if his name alone would bring in flocks of recruits.

Don't want to talk about this in a recruit's thread but with the loss of Adebo combined with the previous decommits, the argument for keeping BK to keep our class intact has basically been shot down.

Is it too late to make some sort of a move? The class has gone to shit and making a change probably doesn't make it any worse. We all know that none of the current commits are committed because of BK. We are going to have some serious depth issues at positions like WR as soon as next year.

Is it too late to offer a bunch of money to Venables? Any other guys that have upside that were passed up by us and other programs? Any NFL guys?

I am not so much concerned about next year. I am concerned about keeping whatever commits we have right now and potentially picking up some guys that could come along with a new HC.

Probably a pointless discussion but I just want to brainstorm.

Chip Kelly would be sweet. BK already sucks at handling the media, and is shown in side stepping responsibility and throwing players under the bus. Chip Kelly might not be good with the media, but at least he wins games.

That may be true but if we can't hold on to a WR considering our depth chart that speaks to bigger issues. Tired of losing to Stanford in most recruiting battles.

but he wasn't coming in as a wr per his own admission--AT LEAST that was what he had said previously although no one knows if he was going to be moved once pouncy jumped

BUT YES i hate losing to stanford...but they are a stable, better academics, and its warm...right now we are picking up the broken pieces; hopefully the new staff has the answers

Chip Kelly would be a disaster here too.
