. Historically looking at Weis/Willingham I'm not sure how it's even a question Kelly should be fired right now.

Both Weis and Willingham had multiple disappointing-to-bad years in a row before they were fired. Three in Weis' case. That's not really the case for Kelly.
You know Notre Dame. You know they move slowly and value stability above all. Kelly will be back.

Here is my take on the situation, Brian Kelly will be back next year, and he will hire a very good defensive coordinator whether it's his decision or Jacks. He has proven he can win at Notre Dame and this year's dumpster fire should not negate that. I think Notre Dame will make an agressive play for Charlie Strong. He will help inject discipline and some new energy into the program. The only way I don't see him back is they are able to pull someone like Meyer, Dabo, or Stoops.

If BK is not fired we deserve every bad thing that is coming to us the next 2-3 years. Literally not one top program in the country would stand for a 4-8 season in which we played one team that was more talented than us, in year 7.

Honestly the best option for this team is to keep kelly and bring in a stud defensive coordinator someone who is proven at a big time program and is a badasss recruiter. Also bring in a new special teams coach and strength and conditioning coach.

I disagree. This seems like patching a roof that's leaking everywhere instead of ripping it out and replacing it. If everything else was good except for one part, replacing a DC or S&C coach would be the way to go, but there are too many issues with this team in regards to fundamentals, attitude, toughness, schemes, etc. Kelly's the reason there are several underperforming assistants and the wrong approach/attitude. Replacing a couple of assistants is just putting a patch on a fundamentally broken thing. He needs to completely overhaul his entire staff and approach or ND needs to bring in a new HC and start over.

we should be on the phone with dan mullen and chris klieman.

dan mullen is still young (44), and has been a head coach in the sec west for 8 years. he's averaged close to 8 wins a year and is 29-35 in sec conference play at fricking ms state.

The only person I want Notre Dame getting from North Dakota State is their S&C, Jim Kramer.

Who do you want to replace Kelly and BVG?

Who do you want to replace Kelly and BVG?

The more I read about Fleck, the more I want him. He is the anti-Kelly, which is good and bad.

Make the call Jack, before he's gone.

From what I understand, he won't leave. He is divorced and his wife has the kids....in Fargo.

Looking forward to seeing the Jacks come up to Fargo in a couple weeks!

I think the implication is that ND put out the smoke of him looking around to partially justify his imminent firing.

Boosters letting the Admin know they want him gone?
Admin trying to save Kelly's face while implying that he needs to go quietly?
Admin covering for when they do fire him.
Kelly trying to force the admins hand?

The only way I would take Fleck is if he were hired in as a position coach at ND and he works his way up.

Fleck's resume does not impress me one bit to take the head coaching job at ND.

I want to see what he can do with a bigger program than Western Michigan. He is going to need a bigger boat to row outside of the MAC.

For those saying that to go out and get a D.C. I am with you 100%. I would hope by now that Charlie Strong has already received a call from ND today.

ND needs a D.C. who is going to bring in some discipline. Strong is a perfect candidate-- he has been at ND before, he doesn't put up with B.S., he's made relationships in TX (good for recruiting), and he reminds me of a Tony Alford.

Get to calling Strong....

Nah, this was his agent. Forde knew about this for a while, and was told to sit on it until the end of the season.

Except Strong can actually coach a position and a side of the ball.

Bet Fleck goes to the Ducks... they want him too.

Over Bryan Harsin next door at Boise? Hire a guy who's never recruited west of Illinois or a guy who currently runs Oregon Jr.? I guess anything's possible.

Don't forget, it's Chip's job if he's had enough of Sundays.

As much as I have said Strong would be great DC for Irish, he would be losing his buy-out of $10 million (over next three years?) to take $1 million-ish a year?

Depends how much he wants to coach this year. Even if he gets a head job it's unlikely to pay more than maybe $2M.
