Who do you want to replace Brian Kelly?

Serious question, because I value your opinion. Do you see a scenario where he gets booted this year? like say losing to Miami, Stanford and USC, or do you think he's pretty safe no matter what?

I think if he's 5-7 or worse and the recruiting class starts falling apart they might make a move. There are just a LOT of financial hurdles to making a move and no guarantee you get somebody better. But you have to pull the trigger if you think he can no longer do the job.

Then enjoy 9 wins and no titles.

And what do they say about second chances? I mean, aren't we the big moral authority in college football?

There are more than a couple examples of guys in our program getting away with things that we forgave, no?

Dude. He had members of his coaching staff contacting rape victims telling them not to come forward. Are you a sociopath? I have no problem telling you that I would much much much rather enjoy 9 wins and no titles than root for Art Briles.

I am under the assumption after reading all the posts that Denbrock nor Sanford are a good fit? Anybody's thoughts?

PJ Fleck? Or is he still not "seasoned" enough for the Notre Dame job yet? He's definitely an up and coming coach and he's good friends with Sanford so I could see Sanford staying if Fleck actually got the job.

I thought about him about a month ago when I heard an interview with him on espn 1000 and though to myself, who wouldn't want to play for this young energetic guy. Only thing that scares me would be his age, and ability to recruit nationally. Not sure if the ND spotlight would eat him up or not but definitely a coach I really like.

So Art Briles is the only coach that can take ND football above 9 wins and win a title?

I have never heard that he had coaches contact the victims and tell them to keep quiet. Allegations. Nothing in the Pepper report names Briles as the guy who told victims to keep quiet.

The mishandling is a shame, they should've reported the incidents, but I'm not going to sit here and say that Briles was telling rape victims not to come forward.

I know it's a controversial pick, but I'd give him another shot. Again, we've had our own share of guys who did some questionable things.

The biggest thing working against them is that ND has never had any major success when hiring coordinators for HC, NFL or college. There's just too much of a learning curve.

What about David Shaw? What's his contract like? Could he be lured away?

He's a Stanford grad who has his Alma mater rolling and from what I've heard on past power hours he absolutely hates ND. So I'm gonna say no.

as to a Kelly replacement (if he gets fired)...I think fair to say that Jack will only hire a guy who was/is a Head Coach so I am not even looking at, nor do think we should waste our time discussing the "hot coordinators" etc.
I could be wrong but I could have sworn Jack is on record saying this (HC at ND must have prior HC experience)

Tressel/Pelini combo deal.

Unless LSU brings in Briles to jump start the offense, SCum has another hiring brain fart and Herman falls in ND's lap. In that case, you take a chance on the recruiting differences and hire the young gun.

I am certain Kelly survives the year but if we are doing dream scenerio... I don't think we can get Herman. Lsu and USC are both better coaching places. I would go for Peterson. Fleck. Or John Harbaugh lol. That would make 2018 fun

Fleck really intrigues me in part because he's a guy I would like to root for and I think he would mesh well with ND's culture unlike a lot of other names in this thread.

I am also comforted by the idea he doesn't seem to be in a hurry to leave W. Michigan because I don't think ND is going to be making any changes this offseason (or next for that matter).

I've been posting all over the place so to summarize, I would take anyone on this list without any hesitation:

Herman
Tressel
Fleck
Peterson
Schiano
Les Miles
Patterson (don't think he is gettable though)

Is that a joke?

Unless you're talking about little bro.

John Harbaugh is the better Harbaugh but the people in Baltimore (who are stupidly calling for his firing) will be placated by a 9-7 or 10-6 season... and he'd have no trouble getting another NFL gig if they stupidly canned him.

Not only is what he did deplorable, but in his first interview after his firing (60 minutes I believe) he refused to take any responsibility for what happened. He has no remorse for what happened.

Absolutely a no go at ND.

I'd also add Dan Mullen to this list. Good fit for personnel, what he's done at Mississippi State is remarkable.

BK will be back. Can we talk about the opening at that point? A lot can/will change over the next year and half/two years.

DC is where the opening is. Lets dive into that and leave this hypothetical HC hire alone for awhile.

Just my thinking...
