I am really intrigued by PJ Fleck.. I believe he is up and coming. He is young and very hungry.

Interesting..
Jim Tressel is 63 and Miles is 62. Funny as i was concerned with Tressels age but not Miles age. No thanks to either.

He hates CFB, specifically the media and boosters. And he's unlikable. But Nick Saban is also one unlikable SOB and hates the media and he's made it work. If you get Ws, I think you can get a "pass" even in a fish bowl like ND.

What I think will be interesting to see... cuz Chip sure as hell isn't getting another NFL HC job... is what college marriage he makes when he gets fired in San Fran. Methinks he goes SEC.

PJ Fleck would be an awesome culture clash with ND for so many reasons. I think he's exactly the kind of take-no-prisoners attitude we need... but I don't know how the heck you'd get Jenkins, etc. on board with someone like him.

I don't want a small school, non power 5 coach. I want a coach who has been successful in the power 5 level or in the NFL.

Lax-- just heard Hazzell is out at Purdue, my bet is they will go after Fleck.

Fleck has his eyes on a bigger job IMO. Purdue is more suited for someone like Miles, or even BK. A guy who will need to slum it for a year or two before getting back into the big game.

If the goal is to win and win some high level bowl games, then a Chip Kelly would be a great hire. However, his brand of CFB will not equate to national championships. It all starts and ends in the trenches... and he never had anything close to a NC OL/DL with the Ducks. Simply put, he would be a BK, only with the ability to elevate the Irish program a little higher.

This. I want a coach that will commit to the running game and dominate the trenches running the ball. If you don't have a running game you don't have a championship team. You need to be able to control the clock in somes games, and it helps your red zone scoring greatly. Too hard to throw the ball as much as we have been and expect to be successful all the time.

PJ Fleck is the f'n man. He'd recruit the shit out of Notre Dame. These kids would freaking love his attitude and enthusiasm. One problem. He has problems keeping his crank in his pants

Didn't Lax allude to these in another thread, "skeletons in the closet?"

Could you imagine Fleck as head coach with Diaco as DC? The train of ladies would be backed up to LaFortune.

you do realize Chip Kelly had a 60 40 run pass ratio right?

Doesn't matter. What really matters is whether you control the LOS. At a certain point in any championship type season run, you will have to put a hat on a hat and win the battle in the trenches. Chip's offensive teams at Oregon were pretty to watch... until they got hit in the mouth. All flash... no substance in the end.

I agree, but to be fair, they took the SEC's best offering in 2010 to the last play. I was at that game and remember a few of the Auburn fans marveling at the physicality of Oregon. That season they did have some muscle on the line.

Also on Fleck, Georgia Tech is a real possibility for him, also would love Auburn if available. Has already "heard" from both schools.

He also told a buddy of mine (played football together at NIU) that if ND was available. He'd jumped on it as fast as he could.

Some of you will think I'm talking out of my ass right now, and I'd usually save this sh!t for PMs, but after the way this season is going. Carlton gives zero fvcks right now.

Serious question.

Why couldn't Notre Dame get Mark Dantonio.

His best trench team no doubt. But that Tiger defense wasn't a great defense either - their DL was pretty solid however and the difference in the game IMO.

Agree, they were actually pretty mediocre on D that year (saw one site that had them 60th in total D). Cam was a one-man wrecking crew that year though.

Was reading an article that listed possible replacements for Kelly. One name that I had never thought of, but caught my eye was Josh McDaniels.

Now that could be a risk, but might be worth while. Could be a Peter Carroll type hire. I would be ok With Josh McDaniels. He works his ass off, is still young, smart, energetic, unlike Weis has head coaching experience and the biggest bullet point on his resume is he took Tim Tebow to the playoffs and won a game.

I would be for that. Could see him being a great recruiter as well. He'll have his choice of NFL jobs though.
