Who do you want to replace Brian Kelly?

Here are some extremely realistic option Notre Dame could get simply by asking and paying the $$...

-Dan Mullen
-PJ Fleck
-Bryan Harsin (might be tough pull because of circumstance, but he currently makes a fifth of what Notre Dame would pay)

Not talking about any "reach" candidates like Herman, etc. These are three guys we could get right now where any of them would probably be a sizable upgrade over what we're seeing.

I was on the Dave Doeren bandwagon a couple years ago if Kelly left. I'm still on that wagon if anyone wants to hitch a ride. I really think he could do good things at a bigger program with more invested in football.

Only Mullen off that list.

He has been on the trail, he's been in one of the two best trees, he's been around the country courtesy of Urban.

Fleck has nearly the same tree issues as BK but with 2 years of Schiano thrown in. He's mostly recruited for MAC schools and whatever he learned at Rutgers. I wouldn't take the chance. i like him a lot but too risky. If anything, I'd take his former boss, Doreen now that he's got a taste of the ACC and is doing above expectations.

Harsin has grown up in a vacuum in Boise. He's never left. Is he the next Peterson or is he the next... all the rest of the BSU former HC's? Too risky.

** I thought he had one year of Doreen for some reason but all 3 years of Fleck's time at NIU were under Jerry Kill. Oops.

Agree. Mullen would be the only one I would take.

Oh, yes he has. Share of conference title as HC at Arkansas State, spent two years as OC at Texas in Mack Brown's twilight before taking Arkansas State HC gig.

I want people from the Peterson tree seeing how well that dude has done. I don't doubt he can recruit.

For all the people who want PJ Fleck...WHY?? Again I ask WHY??

He is having a great year in the MAC, our current coach succeeded in the MAC. He is a bandwagon coach, no thanks, and I would want to see more experience from him. Fleck's time will come.

If Kelly had to be replaced today I vote for Chris Petersen of Washington. He won at Boise State, he is winning at Washington, and I think his team is the only team that could give Alabama a game.

This is pretty funny to me. As an NC State alum I would not shed a tear if he left. During his tenure he has never beaten ECU or UNC and the best that he has done in the conference in any one year is 3-5 (in 2014 and 2015).

Which is called the "cradle of coaches" for a reason. He taken a doormat program and made them ranked for the first time EVER. He has tons of energy and recruits harder than anyone.

What Fleck is doing at Western is great, glad to hear that they are recruiting and playing with energy.

I guarantee you if Western were to lose their next 3 games opinions about Fleck would change quickly.

Kelly didn't go from Central to ND....I want to see more from Fleck.

True. But his star WR didn't get looks from anyone else because likely couldn't qualify for many, if any, other schools. He just had 2 players dismissed for forcibly entering a house and robbing the woman with weapons. One of which was well known in the area he was from for his long criminal history.

I love WMU. I live in Kalamazoo. I have friends and family who are Alumni and who are teach at the school. Will he be able to land the big time recruit that has offers from national powerhouses that don't need 'help' to improve their life? I'm not saying he can't, it's an honest question. Because many of the players he has couldn't make it into ND.

I really like Whittingham. Runs a power spread and they're always physical with a good defense. And he never has loads of talent. Just a tough, physical football team every year under him.

I also like Fleck a lot but agree with you guys here saying he needs to prove himself a bit more. He's doing outstanding at Western tho.

There are some no-brainers out there like Peterson and Herman (Herman isn't as much of a no-brainer to me) but I don't think they'd be willing to leave or come here considering the other openings and I don't think Peterson will leave UW. He has them rolling.

Don't even know if Whittingham or Fleck would come but I wouldn't be upset with either. Whittingham is my top choice tho for now.

Worst part is that I really like BK. Sad to see the way this has played out for him but it's his own doing.

Well, we need more players with an edge...

I think the one thing people have marveled at the most is his aggressive and effective recruiting. Signing the best classes in the MAC and getting some guys with Power 5 offers.

I agree, but I also think this team needs a leader and NO ONE is stepping up.

A motivator doesn't have to be a coach. We need more Dexter Williams' on this team.

I hope they keep rowing that boat at WMU.

Whittingham would be interesting, I don't see him leaving the Utes. No les miles please. He destroys QBs and has worse end of game clock management than BK. Assuming BK has a buyout, I think we could land a young energetic fleck at a reasonable price. I walked in nd tunnel and I wanted to run through a wall; Bk's Irish jog onto field. I see fleck entering his lockerroom and his team is waiting for fleck tossing him into the air. When was the last time you saw nd players hype to see Kelly enter locker room? Nd is a brand by itself(some would argue a little tarnished), coach doesn't have to have the biggest name, but I would like some youth and energy for next HC. Team fleck

The big question is will a big time coach want to not take the easy path and sign with Texas or LSU. And take the challenge of bringing Notre Dame back...

If the 49ers continue to tank, will chip Kelly be willing to coach Notre Dame?

I'm also a Les Miles supporter and would be happy with him as coach.

I don't want chip Kelly or les miles. Miles is horrible in time management and can't produce offense.

Why not Chip Kelly? He is a proven high level college coach.

You think Kelly got his balls busted for yelling? You haven't seen Anything. Chip is a recruiting violation waiting to happen and he defense sucks. So we aren't any better than we are now.

He had the Oregon programming rolling with NCG game appearances and BCS bowl bids.

He will have better talent at Notre Dame than what he could get at Oregon.

He will have the same players we are in the running for now. We have good and really good players they for some reason can't execute.

I am ok with a new coach as long as they do it for the right reasons and not just a gut reaction. But I still don't believe we will get a good enough coach.

And I also think it should be a clean house as well. Every coach needs to be gone.

In 2012 Auburn was 3-9 and Gene Chizik got fired.

In 2013 In Gus they trust took them to the National Title game.

One can hope the same happens for Notre Dame right?

I never really post because of lack of time but damn what the hell is going on? Is the team really that bad? God I love this team and all I want is one win at this point! I believe Kelly's time is finished and it is time for a new coach but I have a few questions...

Can any coach win here? Is it an institutional problem?

Every new coach comes here and lights it up the first few years and then all of a sudden they run out of gas. Why? Also, why do they all look like they've aged 20 years?

I hope the powerful individuals behind the scenes remember what built the school.

A top coach could win here. We haven't got one. A good coach could win here. We haven't got one, at least not this season.

True but when we hired Brian Kelly he was one of the hottest coaches.
He was coach of the year multiple years. He has over 200 wins..

He is definitely a good coach, maybe more!

At first we all believed in him. We all were drinking the koolaid the first few years. He was 12-0.. What changed? Did he just wake up and become a bad coach. I don't believe so..

and all of a sudden we are ready to cut his head off..

I am starting to believe the problem is something else. Im not sure what the problem is but I remember when Kelly got hired many said if he can't win here no one will.

Chip Kelly loses again. 1-5 on the season. No way he survives more than 2 years if he keeps this up.
