I'll agree that SoM and SoW were meh. It wasn't that the game was too difficult, the loop just didn't grab me enough to have me want to spend another 15ish hours doing more of the same. I liked the nemesis system, but the game felt more like a tech demo on that front. If they could put the nemesis system into something I like to actually play that would be amazing.

I’m with you. I feel the game is kind of bland and repetitive and I couldn’t give either more than a few hours. And I’m a LOTR junkie too. I find it weird how every few weeks this thread gets bumped by somebody playing SOW.

Honestly been looking for a good story game for a while. Haven’t had anything to really grasp me like Darks Souls 3 or the Witcher 3 in forever. I preorder the new Xbox, but I don’t think there’s anything to look forward for that for a bit.

Wasn’t able to secure a PS5, but will hopefully get one down the road though. Who knows though, if these consoles are anything like getting a switch forget about it. I tried twice buying a switch, and both times they were sold out everywhere including online. I said F it, if you can’t control your own supply enough to keep shelves stocked then that’s on you, you lost a sale.

I made mega conferences, and Wyoming is in the Big 12. I had a job offer from southern miss (SEC) and almost took it (great stadium and they have a GREAT young defense) but my Wyoming team is on the cusp so I stayed at least one more year. I have a list of ten programs I’ll leave for and they were on the list. UNLV is in the PAC and offered too (and on the list, again cool stadium and I love the idea of building a run heavy team there, Runnin Rebels in football too) but they are prob the worst P5 program right now and I didn’t want to jump to that just yet. It’s been very fun. Heisman, no sliders, scholarship restrictions (if you discipline yourself to really do this it makes recruiting so much more fun), super conferences, and self imposing things like seniors sitting out of bowl games,... it’s been a blast thus far...

Interested in this mega conference idea... Going to start a new dynasty tonight!

So I left Wyoming, in seven years won two sugars, a rose and a fiesta and finished #2 twice. My last season I came into the conference title game against SMU (last two unbeatens) thinking this was the year. But they beat me and SMU ended up being the upstart to win it all. I took the WSU job and it’s a complete rebuild, however it did just gut out a win at tOSU to start my first year 2-0 so hey,... so fun

Cyberpunk 2077 is delayed again to December 10th and I'm officially worried about it. It is hard to imagine that the game is going to launch in a great state given that they are clearly scrambling and duct taping these things together over the last few weeks.

On the other hand, this gives me a full month to be married to AC Valhalla with zero distraction (aside from ND blowing their perfect season after they upset Clemson in two weeks).

Curious as to how hard into the Norse pantheon they will lean, making the Isu/Precursors/Forerunners into different gods like they did with the Fates of Atlantis DLC in Odyssey... hope they don’t step on God of War’s toes too much.

I love AC unconditionally... but I loved God of War so much that any disrespect with how they handle the mythology will cause some problems and some soul searching.

Just got offered the ND job after four great years at Wash St. To keep it fun, challenging and ‘realistic’ I’m only allowing myself 12 commitments a recruiting cycle and only one player can be talked into staying per cycle. Let’s see how this goes.

Steam Halloween Sale going on right now. I picked up Phasmophobia for $12.50, it's getting Overwhelmingly Positive reviews. It plays better with VR, which I don't have, but apparently you can play it completely without VR. 4 player online co-op psychological horror. Haven't played it yet, but plan on installing tomorrow to check it out. Let me know if anyone else has it on Steam:

<iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/sRa9oeo5KiY" frameborder="0" allow="accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture" allowfullscreen></iframe>

I also picked up Grim Dawn for $6, a game that's been sitting in my Steam Wishlist for quite awhile. Another game with exceptional reviews that I've never played, who knows when I'll get to it.

If anyone else is looking for a Halloween/Spooky game for cheap, Darkest Dungeon is on sale again too. It's a turn based dungeon crawler, high level difficulty. Lots of party management and lots of questions and decisions...your party members WILL die at times, but how many you lose depends on your actions and choices. You can always recruit more, but they start at low level of course. Pretty good game for the price, it's also on sale for $6.

Ok, played a few matches of Phasmophobia now with some people. Pretty fun game, especially at the price tag of $12 (Don't know if it's still on sale, but it's Early Access so it's not expensive anyway). I managed to die twice out of three matches, both times everyone was running out of a building and I was the last one out. Ghost shut the door and locked it, then promptly took me out. First time he snuck up behind me, second time it was an old lady in an abandoned farm house and I saw her teleporting my way before she off'd me.

Nice game to play in the dark and it's fun whether you're playing with strangers or if you're with friends. I imagine it is better in VR, but it plays fine without it too. Make sure you have a mic on though, because otherwise you won't be able to communicate with the other hunters to figure out what kind of ghost you've found.

Bored out of my mind while stuck in quarantine in Tokyo. Only have my laptop with me and looking for suggestions for what to play. I always revert back to SimCity and RollerCoaster Tycoon as my go to games but looking for suggestions. Thanks in advance!

Got my confirmation email from Amazon that says my AC Valhalla Steelbook is set to ship on-schedule and will be out for delivery next Tuesday... I think I may be developing a stomach bug that's gonna keep me home from work next Tuesday and Wednesday.

Switching from console gaming to PC, looking at picking up a PC for about $2-$2.5K CAD. In terms of graphics cards - what is a key metric I should be looking at?

I just recently built my son's first pc and used this as his graphics card. No problems, Its quiet, and runs cool. Its been good for basic games like CoD/Fortnite etc. but it reportedly cant handle 4k games or VR very well. We are playing those games so no biggie there for us.

Your main choices are going to be NVIDIA and AMD. Its my understanding that there are "specs" per se differentiating these cards and that you cant really compare card to card unless you are lookin gat performance tests. I would check out those tests for different cards and based off the games you might want to play as they have different demands and ranges for latency. If I had to say a minimum spec would be at least 8 MB RAM and speed of 1400-1600MHz.

I think ultimately, latency (ping) is what limits my enjoyment of games. Something that can reduce that and maintain high frames per sec will serve you best.

Also dipping my toes into Shadow of Mordor.

Very entertaining, though parkour is a bit clunky at times and results in some frustrating immersion breaks. You start climbing a wall with Talion to try and get in position for a stealth finisher on a captain, but he decides to go 'around' the wall instead of 'up,' and now the whole garrison of Orcs is on alert and the captain you're hunting is protected and unbeatable.

Also a bit frustrated by some of the power-struggle opportunities... I tried one last night where I had to take out a heavily-armored captain and his 5 lackies... by the time I took out his guards, three other captains had shown up, and I had no chance. I died, and all four captains involved grew in power.

gahhh its basically AC in a Tolkein world but yeah the Nemesis system is interesting and its fun to build up your forces and send them on missions

Welcome to the master race.

That amount should get you a very solid rig. Let me know what games you are playing and I'll hit you up over my Christmas Break.

I know absolutely nothing about cards, I gave my nerdy friends a budget and a case of beer for getting everything figured out for me.

Thanks man - I've been looking at pre-built PC's with either the 2060 and the 2070 in them. They seem to be the "mainstream" and dependable cards out there. I've tried justifying going to the 3000 generation but those are just so much more expensive. I've watched a bunch of videos on people building PC's and man it's not as easy as people think, your son is a lucky guy!

When you're looking to build your own PC, Tom's Hardware is the authority. Right now, your best value options are the GeForce RTX 3070 or 3080. Since GPU is generally the most crucial bottleneck for determining whether or not your rig can handle a new game, I recommend spending proportionally more on it than on other components; so in this case, spring for the 3080. It'll be many years before they release a game that it can't handle easily on max settings, but it's still a great value compared to the 3090 since there's always a crazy premium on the current "best-in-slot".

All that said, good luck finding one. There are massive supply shortages recently due to COVID-related disruptions of the manufacturing process. You may have to buy a pre-built rig in order to get one at a reasonable price.

Just picked up my Xbox series S. Set it up, downloaded the updates, then immediately shut it off because there is nothing to play.

Wanted a PS5 but they sold out too fast. Only reason I got an xbox is for Halo, but that’s been delayed just as much as Cyberpunk has been.

It's still Early Access, but it's been worth the $12 I spent. I think it's still only $14 off sale which is a good deal. I've got 19 hours in it already. The reviews are still Overwhelmingly Positive with 80,000+ reviews.

Mostly finished my PC hunt, and was able to get my hands on a 3070. You were not kidding when you said it would be tough finding a 3 series GPU. Found a pre-built that had a 3070 in it for 2400 CAD (so like 20 bucks USD).

Anybody use LED lighting behind their TV to enhance the gaming experience?

I've looked into it, but not sure whether it's worth it to get active/bias lighting for bigger money, or to just get some cheap stuff on Amazon and set to a cool background color.

AC: Valhalla has been fun so far. Looks beautiful on my generic PS4, so I can only imagine what it looks like on a PS5 (or even a PS4 Pro on a good TV).

I'm not too far in terms of the story, but it's got me hooked already. 'Odyssey' hooked me because of the historical setting, though the story itself was kind of meh... 'Valhalla,' on the other hand, has me engrossed in how the story will unfold.

I'm probably 10 hours in, but I haven't even reached the title card yet... I've spent a lot of time running around mountains, getting comfortable with the controls and how the character responds to them.

Combat is throwing me off a bit. I usually play on 'normal,' but I decided to go for the challenge with this one and bumped it up. May have been a mistake, considering it's an adjustment to learning how to dual-wield weapons in this one. You have a primary-hand light and heavy attack with the right bumper and trigger, and a secondary-hand attack with the left bumper (left trigger is for switching to ranged attacks). However, you don't REALLY attack with the left hand... you have to use it to parry, and choose careful times to hold the button down to perform a combo attack that will use both the secondary and primary hands. Kind of counter-intuitive, but not necessarily a bad thing, as it takes away a hack-and-slash element that would be present if you were just spamming light attacks back-and-forth between L1/R1. You have to be strategic about choosing your dual-wield combo, and also how best to use the secondary hand in general.

Sailing is fun in that the water and setting looks good as you get around, though they've taken open-water hostility away. It seems like mayyyyybe they lifted "Story Time on the Boat" from God of War, as you can order you crew to share stories with you to pass the time while sailing, but the stories are less about lore, and more about your crew building chemistry by sharing stories about raids they were on together, so it is a bit different (and not nearly as well written as GoW).

Stealth play is a little different, but still good. Enemy awareness is dialed up, especially on a harder setting. It's tough to be a sneaky viking.

They reworked the ranged attack mechanics to make the 'predator' bow the obvious stealth-playstyle compliment. Hunter and Light bows use third-person views, as is normal in the game, but the 'predator' bows switch you to first-person view when you aim, having you look through the bow's sight and down the shaft of the arrow. Different, but cool, and makes it feel rewarding to pick enemies off from a distance as you sneak between points of cover.

I'm excited to sink 100+ hours into this game, unless something drastic changes after seeing the title card once I've played the next main story mission.

And that's a preliminary 'IrishLion Reviews Assassin's Creed' entry for Ubisoft's latest title. I know you all were waiting for it with great eagerness.

I know you say this jokingly, but yesterday I had a buddy of mine ask me if I have played the new AC yet. And I literally thought at the time: “I forgot the new one came, and I’m shocked Lion hasn’t said anything about it yet on the board. Must not be good.”

Look forward to the full report. Might have to play this one after taking the last couple off.
