I should add, are you talking about the new gameboy games (Sun/Moon), or Pokemon Go?

If the gameboy games, I haven't played them yet, but I have done some research and read plenty of reviews on the gameplay.

Looking back through this thread it looks like Irish Storm played Dragon's Dogma, but has no one else? I've been seriously impressed with this game, it's been hard to put down. It has great hack and slash game play tied together with RPG elements and story. The class system is fun, and the Pawn/follower system is one of the more unique one's I've ever seen.

When you finish the tutorial section with your created character you get to make another character that will serve as your main "Pawn" for the game, basically your partner in crime that's always at your side. However, you also get to choose two other Pawns as support players to makeup your party. How you choose these extra followers is through a Rift. In this Rift you can interact with other Pawns created by players, all set at different levels with varied equipment, skills, looks, etc. Basically you're choosing someone else's main pawn to fill one of your two support spots. You then borrow their Pawn to help on your journey (If someone borrows your Pawn you don't lose their use during that time). The cool thing is while someone else has your Pawn, that Pawn will learn from any quests, experiences, or locations they visit but they don't gain any actual experience points. The game keeps track of what locations, quests, and beasts your Pawn experiences throughout the game. If you complete a quest with your Pawn and say....start a New Game+, they'll be able to give some input on what to do next on that quest the next time you play through it. They're not going to completely hold your hand, but if you're stuck for a long period on something they might provide a hint given enough time. The same is true for any Pawns you recruit from other players. If they've been to a location in the past that you're unfamiliar with, they can provide some background on the layout or the residents, or if they're familiar with a certain beast they'll provide some strategies or weaknesses. I was fighting a giant Cyclops and one Pawn I recruited suggesting climbing onto the beast's hand and smack the shit out of it to injure it's hand and force it to drop it's club. Had no idea you could do that, and it was very effective. Kind of a cool feature if you ask me. Another neat thing about the Pawn system is you can gift things to other people's Pawns for their use. For instance, I was using someone's Ranger for several levels, and I happened to pickup a better bow that I had no use for personally. I ended up giving it to some dude's Pawn when I released him, and I had something similar happen when someone borrowed my Mage.

Every 5 levels or so I tend to release these support Pawns and recruit new ones, but sometimes the replacements aren't any better...or they can be worse. One thing I've noticed is gear can be a big deciding factor in the effectiveness of your support members. Some players are more apt to provide good gear for their Pawns and then upgrade that gear, others are not. Fortunately you can review a Pawn's setup prior to recruitment, and you can also favorite any Pawns you encounter in case you want to pull them for duty again later. I actually rolled with a Level 4 Pawn I found from the start of the game until I hit Level 20 simply because whoever created him gave him lots of good gear that put him on par or above the Pawns that were higher in level.

The Pawn system is a fun little mechanic, but there's a lot more to this game. It's an Open World where you decide what and where you're going to do everything. There are a plethora of options when it comes to gear and weapons, even more so than Dark Souls, and everything is upgradeable. Everything is fully voiced. There's lots of options for quests and little bounties for experience. The boss battles are probably still one of my favorite mechanics in this game though. There's just something cool about climbing up a Hydra head and hacking it off, or holding on for dear life as a dragon dives at the rest of your party, or clinging to the top of a Giant's head while you try to bash it in...only to have him grab you and hurl you across the room.

I'm just curious if anyone else got to play this game. I know it was out a few years ago on the last generation of consoles, but it's new to Steam this year and it looks like they touched the graphics up just a bit. I can see how the game might have flown under the radar since it was put out by Capcom who isn't really known for RPGs outside of Breath of Fire.

I played it. It was really good. Unfortunately it has issues with it's RPG systems that ruined the endgame for me, but overall it was fun.

Did anyone ever play X Men on SNES?? I might have a chance at picking that up fairly cheap CIB but I never played it back in the day... thoughts on it being worth picking up for a family game (My wife and oldest like X Men and I'm a male who grew up in the 80's and 90s so duh)....

**Note this is related to X Men Mutant Apocalypse, not the Arcade Game that i played tons of....

also, any ideas on good family games for the SNES in general?? Maybe i'm over looking anything.

Fuck. Had this all typed out and then lost the post. In any case, never played X Men Apocalypse on SNES. Reviews put it around a 7.5/10 saying the difficulty can be a bit rough at points. Seems like a decently fun game. Some of the criticisms were "Focuses on combat rather than platforming" and "Can get a bit repetitive." If you're getting a good price though, I'd say go for it. In the end you're just out a couple bucks.

As far as other 2 player family games, here are some suggestions.

-Secret of Mana can be fun for two players. You might pay a bit more for that title, but it's a great game. It doesn't start out as a two player game, you have to play about an hour before it unlocks other characters. You can actually play up to 3 players if you have a multi tap. The game looks like it's running $50-60 on Ebay, with some completed listings at $40 (Which would be a very good price and definitely worth it).

-Super Mario World/Mario Kart obviously would be good games.

- Donkey Kong Country, which I think you already got.

- Any of the Final Fight games if you want beat-em-ups where you work together.

- Clay Fighter or any of the Street Fighter 2 versions if you want head to head fighting.

- Tetris Attack if you want a puzzle game.

- Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles IV: Turtles in Time is a great beat-em-up.

- Contra III is supposed to be good, but I never played a whole lot of it. Played way more of the original on NES.

- Legend of the Mystical Ninja was kind of fun for two players, but it can be a bit difficult at times.

- NBA Jam/NBA Hangtime.

- Vegas Stakes. It's all gambling, so if that's your thing you can do it two players. I wouldn't normally suggest it because it gets a bit repetitive, but that kind of comes with the territory.

- I played a handful of football games on the SNES, like SNES Play Action Football, Pro QB, and a few others. Never tried Madden. My favorite football game was NFL Quarterback Club '96. You could actually create your own QB or other player and practice with them to build them up. The original QB Club for SNES might be better in a 2 player setting. I remember they had all these QB challenges you could do to build up your QB and it was kind of fun head to head. I don't think the '96 game had the QB challenges, I think you just practiced normally with your created player.

- Ken Griffey Jr for baseball.

Those are the ones I remember, and most of them shouldn't run you too expensive.

New trailer for Hideo Kojima's Death Stranding was pretty awesome. It was nice to see the show start out as a big middle finger to Konami after what they pulled last year.

Anyone jacked up for "The Last Guardian"?

I didn't play "Ico" or "Shadow of the Colossus," but I've long tracked the status of this game, and all of its delays and potential cancellations, and finally the rumors that it was revived and being prepared for the next gen, before the PS4 was even out.

I'm worried that some aspects of the game may be dumbed down, considering how long it was in development for previous gen consoles and minding their limitations, but the game itself looks like it will be beautiful.

You still didn't specify what you were talking about here. I've got a good portion of the game done, about to check out the Everfall and I've done a lot in the DLC.

Were you referring to the Beloved plot? Let me guess, this happened to you?

It's the games systems of calculation for damage. Almost every game uses a percentage based system. So if someone hits you with 50 damage and you have 50 damage reduction your hp goes down by 25. Dragons Dogma doesn't do this, and instead opts for a game where the points are literal. So if someone hits you with 50 damage and you have 50 damage reduction no damage is taken at all except on crits. In my opinion that is a horrible system. For my end game it turned most major enemies into a huge grind because they have insanely high damage reduction.

Are you talking Bitterbark Isle DLC? I've had some real struggles down there, but it's meant to be a challenge I think. It's gotten a lot easier as I've accumulated cursed gear. The first time I fought a Cursed Gorecyclops I died...a lot...lots of one shot deaths. I've avoided Death almost completely because I'm not ready yet. I did take the final boss down once, but I haven't gone back yet to take on his 2nd form.

In the normal game bosses I've been fine, but I think I've been pretty diligent in picking up the latest weaponry/armor when they become available, and I upgrade everything to 3 stars if I can (Or Dragonforged now), and I've built a pretty good party. It doesn't hurt that I've recruited some pretty kick ass pawns too. Often times when I search for a new pawn I look for the most highly rated pawns for the month, and they often end up having Gold Dragonforged gear with high damage and skills. I've been rolling with a Fighter support pawn who is still 20 levels below me (I'm currently 85) and she still rocks as a tank. I typically role with a Warrior, although I'm experimenting with different classes, and then I keep a Sorcerer for my Main Pawn and another support Mage for healing mostly. I let the Fighter block the damage while I attack from behind or I grapple attack. In fact, usually in tough fights I try to find a way to climb onto a boss and beat their face in. My Warrior's stagger is high enough that he stun locks a lot of bosses with every other hit as long as I don't get knocked off before I can climb to his head. The Adhesion Secret Augment has helped with that a lot.

I just returned to Everfall, so a lot of the map has changed, but it looks like most of these enemies I've already faced in the Bitterbark DLC so they haven't been a factor. I picked up a lot of really good cursed items there that really helped put my character over the top. I've been thinking about changing up my party setup recently because it's become painfully obvious that my main pawn does not do well in the line of fire as a Sorceror and often gets mowed down by elite bosses on Bitterbark before she can get spells off. Thinking about giving her my good tanking gear, making her the tank, and then switching to Sorc so I can do the casting from a safe location. I'll have to change my support pawns up a bit, but I'm okay with that. I probably spend too much time seeking out new pawns and playing with lineups.

Think I'm going to restart NCAA and use that playoff add on thing that op sports came up with... thinking of taking Wyoming to start... if I ever get the ND job I'm going to force myself to only take x amount of recruits each year... no over signing.

Anyone have any PS4 co-op campaign (offline) games they've played lately? I'm looking for one for the Xmas/NY break to play with a friend.

We last played Resident Evil 5 (I think?) on PS3 and enjoyed it. I prefer games that are between blowing everything up (Doom) and straight espionage (splinter cell).
