I can vividly remember my first AC-130 call in...Afghan map...about 3:30 AM EST on launch night...I took a vacation day...

Heavenly experience. I was on cloud 9. One of those unforgettable experiences.

I loved the Afghan map, if you mean the one that had the small mountain/cave and the busted airplane in the middle. I would use the hardline and unlimited sprint perks, and fly around with double shotguns and wreck shit. I could get a 20-kill streak no problem. It was always when I got to 21 or 22 kills that I'd get stopped. Of course with hardline, I only needed 23 or 24 for the Nuke.

One time, I got to 20 and saved my AC-130 to ice the cake... Only for the opposition to stay clean inside the bunkers playing defense. I got up from the perk and chased a guy for an easy shotgun kill for the last one I needed, only to lag at the worst possible moment and take a knife to the face.

It frustrates me to this day haha.

The high rise and estate were super fun, in fact still are as my wife kids and I still play it here and there.... Trying to win the high ground in either of those maps is so fun...

Highrise, IMO, is the best online map in any COD.

I always struggled at Estate for some reason, but I still loved it, especially for the big team games. Mass chaos trying to go from the bottom to the top, especially when you get to the house.

My favorite COD map was probably Mission from MW3. It was a village map. I would go corner-to-corner with the Dragunov sniping dudes all day. I'd start in the alley between two buildings in one corner, get a few sniper kills (claymores at my back), then move to the opposite corner and snipe from the weeds in the weird concrete patio.

When they'd start to key on me there, I'd go to the third corner with some cart cover and a porch, pick guys off that would spawn in the fourth corner and try to come around.

I could pull a 25 kill streak easy there with AC-130 perk on, but of course there was no Nuke in MW3, so it felt like an empty accomplishment haha.

Hey ulukin, (or anyone else for that matter) I just saw these posts and figured you might be the guy to answer a computer game question for a dude who's clueless. I want to be able to play my old Civilization games on my laptop when the kids or maybe even my wife are dominating TV time. The problem is I think my laptop is too "new" to install them. I figured it would be easy to install a 10 or 15 year old game on a newer computer but alas, I can't play any of them. So here's some questions. 1) If I were to buy them from Steam would they work or would they be just like my discs? 2) Is there something I can do to make the discs install properly? Help a brother out if you can.

Basically Win 98 and XP/Win7 don't have the same color schemes or windows file structure, so older games that weren't made in this era really aren't able to be played in general. None of the newer gadgets have older drivers either, so it's not like you can just create a Win 98 partition on a new computer. I agree it sucks. I really do miss the old games.

I've had the same problem installing my old Starcraft, Panzer General and Command & Conquer games from the Win 98 era. I've never gotten any of them to work 100% like they used to, but I have been able to get them to become somewhat playable. After you install, if you right-click on the .exe file, go to Properties > Compatability and toggle some of the settings you might get lucky. They're all pretty discolored and most of the time won't let me save, but they are playable.

If it's really just an installation problem, Steam would definitely correct that since it would install it for you. However, I wouldn't expect buying them through Steam to be helpful in having them display correctly. You should read reviews in the Steam store and see if they worked have worked for people recently... I haven't been able to find any of the older Civ games in the store though? Nothing before Civ IV.

Anyone else playing CS:GO? Haven't played CS since 1.5 but just hit Silver Elite last night. Counterstrike seriously hasn't changed in 10 years, I wonder if any other games have had this long of a run without any real updates to gameplay. Definitely no competitive FPS's.

Well that's disappointing but thanks for the info. When I was on Steam a couple weeks ago they had Civ 2 and Civ 3 but now I see 2 is gone. 3 is still on there, it's easier to find if you search Sid Meier. I appreciate your help.

ClausentoTate already answered the question really, but if Steam has a version of a game you want I would go that route (Just make sure to do the research to make sure it does, in fact, run on your machine. Chances are it does if it's been adapted to Steam). I had a similar problem with Fallout 1 and 2, both games from '97 that were designed for Windows 95/98. I knew HOW to make them work with my old discs, but it required some fan made patches, tweaks, and hijinks to get them to work. I saw one day that Steam was offering the games plus Fallout Tactics for $10 and I said "Done." Ran the install, no hassle with tweaks, patches, or fixes to make it work. There's plenty of other older games like Age of Empires 2 that have been updated and run fine on 64 bit machines.

As far as making it work with the discs themselves, it's likely possibly but I can't say unless it's been a game that I've had to tweak myself to make it work. I never played any of the old Civ games sadly, I didn't get into Civ until a few years ago when I got 3-5 in a Humble Bundle. I will say that for some old DOS based games you can run them from DOSBox willout too much of a headache. I still run TIE Fighter from DOSBox on occasion and it works just like it did back in the day...just better cause I don't have to reconfigure Windows memory through memmaker to make it work  The other option could be creating a Windows Virtual Machine that runs Win95 or XP and installing the game there. I've done it for work, not for games, but that would be a viable alternative...it would just take longer to setup, but you could use it for all your old games.

Good luck!

Thanks, although I'm going to have to do some research to be able to understand most of what you said lol. I guess I'm going to try to set up to download from Steam (hopefully that works). I love computer games but they sure tick me off. When I bought Civ 3 I couldn't play it until I bought an 80 dollar graphics card. When I bought Civ 4 I had to buy a new computer making sure it had the proper equipment. Now I want to play these older games and I figure my computer should be plenty "strong" enough to play them and guess what? I still can't play the damn things. Anyways I appreciate you and Clausentotate taking the time to try to help me out. And thanks for the clover, I'm gonna need it!

If you need DOSBox help, here's a Youtube I just found showing how to run CIV 1 from it. Not sure which CIV game you're trying to play, but if it's one of the older ones this may help.

You guys should check out Gog.com

They primarily sell old games that run on present day OS's. And for cheap.

Unfortunately, not Civ, but a lot of good ones.

This could be a good deal. Reclaim your old games for free if you have the old registration keys:

GOG.com

[EDIT] Disregard, it seems to only be for STALKER games released in the US at this time.

I saw that. They're trying to get more games eligible, takes time. I remember when the 1st Stalker game was early in development. It got a lot of hype/support on the Fallout site I used to frequent, No Mutants Allowed.

About 13 hours into Bloodborne and probably already consider it a bit of a masterpiece. Knowing how bonkers the other Souls games get I'm really excited.

My siblings recently got me into Hearthstone, and I've been enjoying it. Having played WoW for many years (long ago), there's a strong nostalgia factor for me, but the game itself is both easily accessible and impressively deep. Blizzard just released it for Android and iPhone, making it the first mobile game I've ever enjoyed. Being able to play anywhere is certainly convenient.

It's free to play, so hit me up if any of you give it a try (I'm Whiskeyjack #1618).

I will eventually be playing Star Wars Battlefront. Official reveal for the game is tomorrow, but screen shots and thumbnail videos already have me all jacked up.

When I was younger, I would play the original Battlefront on PS2 for hours. Could have starved myself playing that game.

I believe it will be both.

I read an article about a demo that some media members got to watch. It was described as switching back and forth from first person to third person to make different tasks more efficient, and it sounded like the user would be able to control that.

They used first-person for sniping or something of the sort, and then switched to third person during combat with an AT-AT so they could see more of their surroundings.

Not to sound too hipster, but its a real shame this is going to be made by EA. I loved the original Battlefront games, but I have zero doubt this will be a good-looking but mediocre game riddled with DLC and other pay-to-win BS. They've already announced after the pre-rendered trailer all the features this WONT have:

No single-player campaign
No space battles
No galactic conquest mode
Can't control an ATAT
40 player cap
Only 4 planets

All in all, this sounds like a Battlefield clone (which have mediocre for years) with a Star Wars skin thrown on. Very disappointing.

I don't even think that's a hipster point of view. I think everyone is beginning to get fed up with having to buy passes and DLC that should already be included with the game, considering the price you're paying. I read a really good article about the situation as it applied to the new Mortal Kombat game, I'll have to see if I can find it.

All I can say is that EA better make sure this shit runs smooth from the start... if they're banking on a game with no campaign and no conquest and only has ~8 maps, their online play better be damn near flawless.

I have little faith in EA, but it has to be reallllllly hard to mess up Star Wars.

I don't mind the absence of space battles, as long as atmospheric piloting is engaging.

No ATAT is a travesty though.

Its just hilarious to me that we are still moving backwards as an industry when it comes to content. Battlefront 2 had space battles for God's sake. I know exactly why they aren't doing space battles, it's because they have jets (barely) working in Battlefield and don't want to invest any money to develop a space combat system. It's just really sad that I can look at a franchise that I loved, its returning after YEARS, and I have zero excitement because I know for a fact that it's going to be a reskin.

No space battles? Bah... And who the hell thought it was a good idea to not have any campaigns?? The only thing keeping interested is 'Star Wars'

EA/Activision when they realized they could ship half the game for the same 60 dollars.

Was there really a campaign in the first two, though?

They had "Galactic Conquest," but that was essentially just a string of "king of the hill" missions. I understand that Battlefront will have the same type of offline missions to play, though it won't be considered Galactic Conquest.

Thinking about it, I'm most bummed that there is no Clone Wars era stuff. Episodes I and II were trash, but they had some BADASS Clone Wars levels in the first games.

Ok good. This is how it was in the original 2 SWBF games. I just always like the 3rd person view so much more than boring first person.

And no space battles completely blows..... that was one of the coolest parts about SWBF2.....

Its so depressing reading about what they originally wanted to do for SWBF3... There was supposed to be ground battle and space battles going on at the same time. And you could take off from the ground on Endor and then fly up into the atmosphere, into space, and then go board a star destroyer.... How freakin amazing would that have been.....
