Btw, if you are looking for a refreshing summer beer with some kick, try the Deschutes' Fresh Squeezed IPA. One of my favorites lately.

I actually had that thought at one point last summer. It felt closer to a Blue Moon, whereas it had been noticeably different (though still similar, if that makes sense) in the past.

Btw, if you are looking for a refreshing summer beer with some kick, try the Deschutes' Fresh Squeezed IPA. One of my favorites lately.

Fresh Squeezed is my OTHER go-to beer in the pool. I'll usually build a 6-pack with a couple Oberon, a couple fresh-squeezed, and then a session IPA or two.

For "mowing the lawn" summer beer, Harpoon's UFO Big Squeeze Shandy is amazing. I don't even like pre-made shandies. It hits the mark of what it's aiming for perfectly.

I have never had this one but, I still have yet to find a Shandy I enjoy... It kills me because the premise is something I think I should enjoy, but I just haven't to this point..

Well according to their wiki page, they changed the name of the beer in 1998. It'd be sweet if it were Oberyn though.

In 1998, Bell's changed the name of its flagship summer beer from "Solsun" to "Oberon" as a result of legal action by the Mexican brewing company Cerveceria Cuauhtemoc Moctezuma, makers of a beer with a similar name: "El Sol" (The Sun).

Seems to be coincidental. Auberon/ Oberon is the king of the fairies in Shakespeare's A Midsummer's Night Dream. Can't find any connection between that character and the sun.

They changed the name, but the name Oberon was taken from MSN's Dream. I was told that in the bar of Bells when they had their first Oberon Day, shortly after they renamed it. Which if anyone is going this year, i'll be there.

What's odd to Wiz's point is the connection between Oberon=Oberyn and the symbol of a sun. I get that they kept the sun marketing after they changed the beer name to Oberon, but Oberyn has no connection to the sun, and neither name is connected to the other.

The only thing I can think of is that GRRM loves Oberon beer.

Gimme all dem Citra Hops. Too bad Monsanto developed it as a proprietary hop strain. Makes it very difficult to utilize it for home brewing.

In the last year or so, South Dakota has gotten Stone, Bell's, Surly, Avery, Oskar Blues, Ommegang among others. Also going to be getting Funkwerks, Blue Point, Elysian and Golden Road. We are finally catching up the rest of the country.

In the last year or so, South Dakota has gotten Stone, Bell's, Surly, Avery, Oskar Blues, Ommegang among others. Also going to be getting Funkwerks, Blue Point, Elysian and Golden Road. We are finally catching up the rest of the country.

Elysian and Golden Road are seeing bigger distribution because they were bought by InBev/Budweiser.

Having said that I really enjoy Elysian Space Dust and Dayglow, and Golden Road Wolf Among Weeds is very good as well.

In some ways I hate the big beer companies buying craft breweries but in some ways it is beneficial because of the increased distribution.

Pizza Port Brewing started distributing to AZ this week, so I grabbed some Swami's IPA and Kook DIPA. Swami's is just how I remember it, a throw back to early 2000's West Coast IPA, pretty good but not great. Kook is more of a 2010 DIPA, and definitely a step up but still just pretty good.


*I really wish that they would open a pizzeria here. They food is just good but it is very kid friendly and I appreciate that.

Raja DIPA is pretty good but Maharaja DIPA is awesome and a must buy if you like hoppy beers and can find it. Uncle Jacob's and TWEAK are interesting beers but very expensive and pretty crazy (very high ABV).

Maharaja is so damn expensive though. $16 here...but so damn delicious. When I was in Boulder last year, I had double dry-hopped Maharaja and I fell in love. Such a good beer
