We cook with Tisdale a lot... and the fact that you can get like four bottles of it for the price of other Merlots we tend to like makes it definitely our go to... it's course course lighter than the others but again, we like it for the price.

My wife makes really good hard apple cider from scratch...

Have a party this weekend. Supposed to bring our favorite fall drink. As I already know some apple pie and beers like oktoberfest, pumpkin ales, etc will be there was seeing if anyone had anything else that sounded worth making.

Thanks.

You can get it near us, we live right where the mountains and desert meet so there are plenty of orchards near us... my wife uses a recipe (don't know it off the top of my head, it's her thing) that takes longer but Ndomer2 would need more time than he currently has for that... I honestly don't know if she adds sugar or not but I don't think she does... ??

What kind of communist apple cider requires the ADDITION of sugar!? Blegh.

(Honest question... can you get fresh apple cider in California, or is that a regional thing?)

You can definitely get fresh apple cider in California. Where I lived in CA (and ACamp is from that area I believe) there is tons of apple orchards where they you can pick your own apples and they make their own cider.

Yes, just on the other side of the mountains from Redlands... hell, I currently reside in a town called "Apple Valley"... lol

The yeasty beasties need food to do their thing. If you don't add a copious amount of sugar, the cider will come out extremely dry with little to no sweetness.

Forgot to mention that I just popped open a Scythe & Sickle, a harvest ale by Ommegang. The first few sips are pretty inviting, but then the spice starts getting old the more you drink.

Chimay, again

Color?

Yesterday I stopped by AJs (fancy grocer here in AZ) to buy beer for a family funeral reception. I realized that I end up buying the same Belgian bombers because: (1) I'm usually sharing high quality beer with a small number (3-4) of people at any given time; and (2) bombers are convenient portion for small groups looking for variety.

But it's tough to find variety outside of Belgian styles if you're shopping for bombers. I'd love to mix things up with Scotch Ales, German Weizenbocks, Doppelbocks, etc. but they just aren't available. #FirstWorldProblems

If you were at Total Wine you could buy 2 of the 16.9oz bottles of the German styles for about the cost of a bomber (if not even cheaper), that way you could have enough for the group.

Had a couple glasses of a French GSM blend. Pretty good, it was the same one I had a 2 nights ago, much fruitier tonight with much less tannin but lost some of the spices.

Trying to decide what beer to go with.

Buddy brought me the new guiness blonde. I'm not a guiness fan but it's not bad.

Deschutes Hop Trip Pale Ale. I am really enjoying this six pack, might need to grab another.

Nice.

Has anyone had the Deschutes winter seasonal? Jubelale, I think? Saw it in the store the other day and thought of trying it.

Lol yes, this is just why I didn't try the Jubelale ... only six packs, no bombers! I almost always get bored of a beer before I get through even half of a six pack, and then I end up with a graveyard of loose bottles that just accumulate in the back of my fridge. Bombers are a way better way to new beers.
