Was just enjoying some of that myself. It's displaced Old Chubb as my go-to Scotch Ale. Can't wait to try some Backwoods Bastard this winter. (Have you tried any Scotch Ales, ACamp? Should be right up your alley given your heritage and fondness for Belhaven.)
I was disappointed to see that TotalWine isn't stocking Victory's Moonglow Weizenbock or St. Victorious Doppelbock. The main reason I was excited to finally have access to Victory beers is because I love German styles and Victory is one of the few American breweries that does them justice. Maybe they're seasonal? Oh well. Picked up a bomber of V-12 as a consolation prize.
I went on a Unibroue kick and had Ephemere, Trois Pistoles and Maudite recently. Ephemere was probably the best fruit beer I've ever had (though that's not saying much); very bubbly, tart green apples, Belgian yeast, etc. Refreshing, but wouldn't be my first choice for a hot-weather beer. Trois Pistoles and Maudite, both being Belgian Strong Darks, are similar. TP is boozier and has some unique chocolate notes, while Maudite is more typical for the style with its spicy and fruity character. I'd probably give the nod to TP simply for novelty here, as there are better Belgian Strong Darks than Maudite (though both are very good).
