Bear Republic Racer 5 IPA. Generally one of my favorite West Coast IPAs that is readily available maybe only behind Stone IPA and Green Flash West Coast IPA (not including DIPA or seasonal items such as SUCKS).

I had a Schalafy Black IPA today. Good stuff. I'm not a fan of traditional IPAs, but this was very drinkable.

Yes it is, have you had any of their Yoichi whiskies?

Had a bottle of the Yoichi Single Malt 12 year. That was fantastic too but for the price the Nikka Whiskey From the Barrel wins. Cool packaging too!

I tried Newcastle Blonde Ale last night. It was terrible; it tasted sour and skunky with an unpleasant sweetness. I hate to waste booze, even if it's free, but that bottle went right down the drain.

Founders Porter. Very good but probably won't buy again till Fall as it is getting too warm here to drink this style of beer (though today was a nice day for it).

Today was perfect for it.

I've had some Dragoon IPA. Moving to a lighter red wine.

Still stuck on Hopvalley Proxima.

It's really incredible, really nice to find a new favorite beer.

Founders Dirty Bastard Scotch Ale.

Was just enjoying some of that myself. It's displaced Old Chubb as my go-to Scotch Ale. Can't wait to try some Backwoods Bastard this winter. (Have you tried any Scotch Ales, ACamp? Should be right up your alley given your heritage and fondness for Belhaven.)

I was disappointed to see that TotalWine isn't stocking Victory's Moonglow Weizenbock or St. Victorious Doppelbock. The main reason I was excited to finally have access to Victory beers is because I love German styles and Victory is one of the few American breweries that does them justice. Maybe they're seasonal? Oh well. Picked up a bomber of V-12 as a consolation prize.

I went on a Unibroue kick and had Ephemere, Trois Pistoles and Maudite recently. Ephemere was probably the best fruit beer I've ever had (though that's not saying much); very bubbly, tart green apples, Belgian yeast, etc. Refreshing, but wouldn't be my first choice for a hot-weather beer. Trois Pistoles and Maudite, both being Belgian Strong Darks, are similar. TP is boozier and has some unique chocolate notes, while Maudite is more typical for the style with its spicy and fruity character. I'd probably give the nod to TP simply for novelty here, as there are better Belgian Strong Darks than Maudite (though both are very good).

Picked up a growler of Founders Red's Rye IPA today. With a coupon I paid only $10.99 for 64oz, not bad.

I had Yards Brawler for the first time. It's not bad, but it's certainly not what you want to drink when it's 80 and humid. I was expecting a more easy drinking, refreshing beer. Brawler was really yeasty; it was like drinking a bran muffin.

I have tried a few over the years, and none have ever jumped out at me... I believe I have had Chub, but I'll pick it up soon to confirm, thanks for the suggestion.

Quality over quanity, bro. The poor saps in those (mostly) Baltic backwaters are chugging shitty vodka as a coping mechanism.

On a related note, Bloomberg just published a piece on how the spending habits of the rich and poor have changed over the last ~30 years. The rich apparently spend 5x more than the poor on alcohol these days.

Being in the 1% is hard work, man. Having underwear models feed you grapes and fan you with a palm leaf can really take it out of a playa.
