I found the Nooner to be downright nasty while Blindfold and Snow Whit where ok but nothing that I would ever buy again.

Sorry for the late response, I just had a hell of a work week. I think you hit the nail on the head though. I just don't like session IPA's and disappointed is the the word I'd use to describe Blindfold and Snow Whit. Torpedo was good but I've had that before and I was hoping to get more than 3 good beers out of a 12 pack. Right now I'm drinking Talon Extra Select Smoked Double Porter by Mendocino Brewing Company. I've never had anything by them before so I wasn't sure what to expect but I really like it. Anybody know much about them?

Jim Beam Devil's Cut

I never heard of it until I bought it. I drink it straight. The first sip always make me shiver then after that, I sip the rest with ease. No ice, I just put it in the freezer so it is chilled when I pour it.

I hosted a whiskey tasting event at work last night, and I featured all 4 marks of Redbreast: 12 y/o, Cask strength 12, 15 y/l, and 21 y/o. The original most of you know about, and has been discussed here plenty. The Cask is a punch in the face. You definitely need to drop in some water (or have 2-3 to adjust your palate). 119 proof; no joke but still good when you make the adjustment. The 15 is very good, somehow a little lighter and smoother than the original. And the 21 is very good, and quite a departure from the 12. The brand rep said "think of wet leaves" and damn if she wasn't right about the taste. All very good, but I believe that dollar for dollar, the original Redbreast is an almost unbeatable value.

To each there own but bourbon is alive and bringing a whole bottle to extreme temps and sitting there or bringing it back to room temp is no good.

On really hot days where I want a bourbon I will take my snifter and swirl some ice water in it. Dump it out of the chilled glass and Then a tablespoon of ice cold water to chill it a bit. I use ice once in a blue moon but some finely crushed ice (very little) will melt fast and chill a bit.

IMHO ice kills the whisky's soul!

I would not put my first born in a freezer so I surely would not but my bourbon in the freezer

Hah. I mean school night as in during the work week. And I can assure you bourbon kills all creativity and motivation the next day.

Over the past couple of days I had some Oskar Blue's Dale's Pale Ale on tap, Kirkland Signature Signature Series Cabernet Sauvignon Oakville 2011, Black Stallion Estate Cabernet Sauvignon Napa 2011 and I picked up 2 Stone Enjoy By 7/4/14 and one Alesmith Yulesmith Summer edition.

Had a Pliny the Elder at Monk's Cafe while at a conference in Philadelphia. Better than I remembered. Not too heavy, but a wonderful citrus hop forward blast. Wonderful.

Honestly I had never been taught the "proper" way to drink any type of liquor.

The only thing I was ever taught was from my older brother. He would pour bourbon into a round glass, then would lay it over a candle until it got warm then sip it. I had ever heard of that before but it was actually really good.

The reason I put a lot of my liquors in the freezer is probably because as I was growing up in the drinking world I started out with fruity frozen drinks. Margaritas, daiquiris, and such. So I have just always liked my drinks cold, even my regular beverages. I don't like to have a warm drink but now that I know that is the best way to get the best flavor I am going to have to try it with my next bottle.

I will say that everyone should drink their beverages how ever they want and at whatever temperature they choose. Having said that quality whisk(e)y is best drank at room temperature (from a flavor perspective) as cold tends to numb the drinker's palate and thus takes away from the complexity of flavor and can even impact the flavor negatively. I like my whisky neat or rarely, with a few drops of water (mostly room temperature but occasionally at a cooler temp).
