Duchesse De Bourgogne Red Flanders Ale 6%

N: Lactic acid, tart cherries, some malt and apple peel. Some funk in there as well.
P: Starts on sweet cherries, and sugary malt, some red licorice and then the tart/sour cherries and a touch of tart cranberry. Just a little brown sugar and oak. A hint of citrus but hard to pinpoint exactly which one (maybe lime?).
F: Sugary malt, sour cherries, funk, tart cranberry and apple peel. Definitely a fair amount of acid as well. Some slightly bitter oak and the brown sugar lingers a little.

To me this is more complex than the Monk's Cafe Sour Flemish ale. I like it but it is not super sour. I give it a score of 86-89.

Turned 21 just about a month ago, and I've had some very good beer over that span.

I would say I'm a beer snob, considering I grew up in a craft beer bar owned by my parents which did not have one crap beer on tap (i.e.: Bud Light, Coors, etc.)

I went to Tampa about two weeks ago, and stumbled into the Tampa Brewing Company in the Ybor City district, just to find a decent beer after being served a Stella Artois in a pint glass and not a chalice as it is intended to be drank from. As I approach the bar, I notice the bartender pouring from a cask, which tripped my trigger immediately. I ask him what it is and he tells me it is their house IPA called Old Elephant Foot.

Now, normally I am not a hoppy beer fan, but the cask made this normally bitter beer into a great tasting easy to drink IPA. It was so good I had to buy a growler of it to send to my buddy and his father who are big IPA fans.

I also had the Warthog Hefeweizen, which was another house beer, and it was awesome as well. If you're ever in Tampa, check out this gem of a Microbrewery/Pub in the Centro Ybor square.

Cuvee Des Jacobins Flanders Red Ale 5.5%

N: Sweet cherries, cranberries, some malt, some lactic acid, brown sugar, and hits of cinnamon.
P: Sweet cherries, cranberries, and some malt then the sour cherries show up. Definitely some brown sugar and a hint of sour/bitter citrus (think limes or lemons) and almost a cherry limeade note.
F: Medium in lenght with a big sour/tart cherry limeade flavor. Some brown sugar, and a little strawberry as well. Some malt in there but it can't compte with the cherry limeade.

A very good beer and definitely the best of the past 3 sours that I have tasted the past couple of days. I still prefer the Russian River Brewing Sours but those are more mouth puckering while this is a little more balanced. Still an enjoyable pour. 89-92 points.

I owe Whiskeyjack some reviews of sour ales, so I will be posting a couple over the next few days.

Much appreciated. To clarify, I'm more interested in specific recommendations. One of my buddies is a big fan of Sours, and he swears by Cantillon, but I can't find the stuff out here. So what's a more readily available option? La Folie?

Piraat Ale. I read somewhere that it is a Belgian IPA (which I've never had). More citrusy and sugary taste than I like but not bad.

Edit: after drinking, I really like this beer. Not too citrusy and a real good finish. I might look for it again.
