He seems like a genuinely nice, well liked kid. I wish him a ton of luck.

With all the talk about how ND does nothing with highly rated recruiting classes, why is it that nobody talks about how Cal has done absolutely nothing with consistently great classes? How do they keep attracting so many stud athletes?

Being located in sunny California, a recruiting hotbed in and of itself, may have something to do with it. Besides, couldn't the same be said for ND's recruiting class this and last year?

To be fair, that's a criticism of Cal that I read frequently.

Same could be said of North Carolina and Clemson (though they finally won this year). Also to some extent UCLA and even Illinois.
But the amount of talent Cal brings in is impressive, especially considering its relative proximity to Stanford, USC and Oregon and the typical results when they play those teams. I guess winning isn't everything?

Per mgoblog:

Hey guys I just got off the phone with Jordan Payton, who informed me of the following:

He is still committed to Cal, but is looking around. The schools he is considering are Cal, UCLA, UW and Michigan. Michigan coaches will be in on Thursday for an in-home visit. They told him they were taking 3 WRs and that they want him on board. He said he loves Michigan but has to figure things out with his family. I asked him why he didn't have a Michigan hat on the table at the Army AA game and he said not to read into that at all because besides Cal, the other two hats were chosen at random. I feel like this is a Buckle Up situation.

EDIT: Jordan said he'd call me after the coaches visit on Thursday to let me know where he stands. As I posted below, based on the conversation, I feel like Michigan's chances are legitimate.

Is it a bit strange that ND isn't in the mix there? He did commit before Westerkamp reaffirmed his commitment as a Cornhusker, and ND missed out on both. What's the deal?

We need a slot receiver. Full court on Treggs should be in order.

We could definitely land Treggs if the whole house of cards comes tumbling down. But it's unlikely.

Jordan Payton not giving ND a look is odd. Hopefully he stays put at Cal or goes to UCLA with Ishmael Adams.

Tosh leaving has no affect on my recruitment. I'm still solid with Cal. #calgang

That was his response to people asking whether Lupoi's departure was going to affect his recruitment. I think he answered honestly.

NOW, if Cal's class starts to fall apart, it could easily affect Bryce's decision. I don't think that tweet is dispositive of anything.
