Dragons milk Reserve Orange Chocolate. Great stuff. Really wish I'd be able to get this in Austin (am back in Illinois now)

If you like that see if you can find a bottle of bourbon county midnight orange. It was a variant of regular bourbon county this last release. It may be hard to find though.

I'm brewing with my brother in law tonight... We have the stuff for a typical Cali IPA but I'm thinking of what I should do as an add-in. I don't want the standard grapefruit, I'm thinking Pomegranate/habanero, mango and serrano pepper or watermelon/Anaheim .... something wild like that.

EDIT* we are going with the Pom/Habenero... brother in law decided. If nothing else it'll be an adventure.

My brother in law enjoyed his first brewing experience so much he went out and got what was required for a hefe batch as well. We ended up brewing the IPA Friday and a batch of pineapple hefe on Saturday. I'll report back once we crack them open. WE already have plans to make a PB&J Stout and a typical Amber for our next two batches here is a few weeks.

I've seen a few but am unwilling to drop $25 on the bottle.

Kilkerran Work in Progress 5 (2004-2013) 9yo Bourbon wood (AKA Glengyle).

N: peaches and cream with vanilla drizzled on top. A touch of burning leaves, forest floor/mushroom and apple.
P: similar to the nose with peaches and vanilla cream, with smoke infused into it. Some slightly underripe apple and apple cider. A little more smoke builds along with some citrus (orange?).
F: Apple cider with the smell of a chimney after you put the fire out.

A very good young whisky that is just about gone. I need to get my hands on a more recent release.

Kilkerran Work in Progress 5 (2004–2013) 9yo Sherry wood.

N: Oranges, chimney smoke, fresh ground black pepper and a salty bite. A little tangerine and just a hint of smoked almonds.
P: Smoked oranges salted with some fresh ground pepper. Almonds/walnuts with a just a hint of oak peaking through.
F: Oranges in brine. The smell of a smoker (food type) lingers for a minute or two.

Very good.

Got pretty drunk with the wife last night,... some Easy Peasy IPA ( really good),... some Marble Passionate Gose and the finished off everything with a bit of Corzo Tequalia... pretty crazy.

Death by Coconut was $3/pint at Oksar Blues, so a couple of those earlier. Brother Thelonius right now while listening to some jazz, I'll let y'all guess who's playing

Tbh not sure if you'll find it out there. I see these collaborations with Untitled Art and others every once in a while. They're outta Wisconsin, so I'm shocked the distribution gets this far.

Dogfish Head 60 Minute IPA. I tried this tonight on tap at a pub here in town. I was disappointed. This was my first Dogfish Head and this is supposed to be a great IPA. It was bland. Not bad, just totally unimpressive in any way. It was so bland that I wonder if maybe it was old and flat. Certainly nothing like I'd expected.

We’ve discussed DFH a bunch here. Most feel they are just an average brewer, not bad but certainly not great and one of the most overpriced beers on the entire market.

Even DFH has their keepers though. I like their sours like seaquinch and their 75 minute IPA is delicious. It's a combination of their 90 minute and 60 minute IPAs with some maple syrup added in the brewing process. It's a 100% great beer. DFH struggles because their flagship "available everywhere" beers just aren't up to snuff with other similar breweries. If I'm in the mood for an IPA, I can buy Two-Hearted, Sweetwater 420, or Terrapin Hopsecutioner anywhere. 60/90 minute is good but not on that level.

Yeah Seaquech is really good stuff... a sour and a session too which I like( I like to have more than a couple beers and sessions help there). DFH and Ballast tend to bleed together a bit in my mind because they both have so many high priced and somewhat over hyped beers but both do have their good ones. On that note I'm still hoping BP re releases their Thai Chile Wahoo, one, if not THE, best pepper beers on the main market.

Stone IPA is still the main market standard bearer for a base IPA imo though. It's been a long standing love affair. Love pretty much everything Sierra Nevada too.

Stone is available at every liquor store here in the south, and I've drank most of their stuff, but I don't often see it at restaurants or sports bars to grab a quick pint so I don't have an intimate familiarity. Probably a fair trade considering the proliferation of terrapin and sweetwater down here though.

The DFH experience summarized in three words.
