Caol Ila 18yo unpeated 59.8%. I did not like 12yo or 14yo unpeated very much though I do enjoy the regular 12yo.

N: Olive oil, lemons and green olives. Some slight oak in the background along with smoke and ocean air Hints of vanilla.
P: Starts off on olives, smoked white fish drizzled with lemons and brine.
F: Olive tapenade, lemons, slight hummus and some vanilla and oak start to show up as the finish becomes pretty dry.

So what about Laphroaig do you enjoy?

I like the base, the body,... enjoy the smoke, peat it even has a little sweetness at the end. I’ve read enough posts here to get IE doesn’t enjoy it, all good, it’s not like I’m saying I think Highlife is the only beer worth drinking or some such. Thus far today I’ve not had much Scotch when compared to my beer experience,... maybe twentyish,... with Laph being the only I’ve really thought, “that’s actually good”

I love the cask strength version of Laphroaig 10......

I was just trying to think of whiskies to suggest that are similar based off of what you like about it. No judgment here.

Fair enough,... I’m up for suggestions for sure but I know I don’t like JWalk, Levit, Macallan, and Fiddich,... at least the ones I tried.

For ACamp
Laphroaig 10yo CS 58.1%

N: Sweet peat, kippers, iodine, and a bonfire of peat smoke. Almost the smell of socks after a workout...
P: Loads of smoke and peat. Bonfire, kippers, a sweet yet earthy peatiness. Smoked vanilla? Iodine, brine, ocean water and a hint of citrus.
F: long and smokey. A touch of diesel and tar, with a large helping of bonfire, and just a hint of vanilla and oak.

The Laphroaig 10yo Cask Strength is similar yet different.
Ardbeg 10 is another great option.

Alexander Murray Bunnahabhain 28yo 1988.

N: Pears in a caramel sauce, peanuts and almonds. Salty with some bitterness. Slight sawdust, vanilla, brown sugar and cinnamon.
P: pears and apples with brown sugar and vanilla with some nuts dusted on top. Slightly bitter with some brineyness. Bitter is a combination of nuts and oak shavings.

What do you think? I've got a couple cases of that & Mosaic DIPA coming next weekend.

My chick's daughter doesn't care for it but most folks that swing by my place like HazyNE's more that WCIPA's that I prefer.

Did you get a chance to try their Fall of Troy DIPA?

I found it enjoyable, though on the sweet side. Good QPR at $13 a 4 pack. Not my favorite and I may not buy more but worth a try.

Change of direction to end the night.

Pappy Van Winkle 15yo.

N: Sweet tobacco, new leather and cloves, brown sugar and some vanilla.
P: High quality pipe tobacco and a mixture of new leather and some old leather. Cloves and brown sugar are present but in the background along with a touch of wheat, Orange and nutmeg.
F: Dry as the oak takes over. Orange and cherry drizzled on sweet tobacco. New leather is there as well. Cinnamon and cloves hang around the edges

My brother turns 30 this weekend and I wanted to welcome him to the club with a nice bottle, so I went out and bought him a nice Whistle Pig 12 year reserve...and naturally picked one up for myself.

Work is going to dragggg today thinking about that bottle sitting on my shelf at home.

Ardbeg 10

N: brine, lime zest, tar, lemon, smoked almonds and smoked cod. A touch of diesel.
P: lime, tar and smoked almonds. Brine and smoked cod. Just a touch of wood, and a bonfire slowly builds.
F: bonfire continues to linger with a little ash, tar, and smoked almonds.

A classic Islay whisky.

Can’t say I’ve had many but enjoy Sierra Nevada’s hazy,... interested on the milkshake. I don’t believe I’m aware of them,... any specifics?

The best ones are still coming out of the ne imo. If you get a chance try a M43 or a boss tweed from old nation.

Just seeing this one, M-43 one of my faves.

10x better on draft than out of the can, but still delicious if you get your hands on the can.
