Primus Weizenbock. Perhaps the Hefe-Weizen's equal.

The risk is mine, friendo, since you always receive books.

FedEx said that I could get flagged actually, which would be bad because my job requires me to ship things and it'd be awfully hard to explain to my boss. There's a roughly 0.1% chance of it happening, but I figured I should just not even bother.

How did they know it was beer?

Game of Thrones Talisker Select Reserve

N: Sweet peat, fresh ground pepper, portabello mushrooms cooked in Marsala and some brineyness. A touch of apples.
P: Sweet peat hits you upfront and then fades to allow the black pepper, Marsala, and apples to come to the front. Almost a touch of ACV and woodsmoke.
F: Medium short on smoked apples with a sprinkle of salt and pepper.

A solid whisky but definitely could have used more time in the casks, probably young, maybe 6-8 years old.

Game of Thrones Lagavulin 9yo

N: starts with bonfire smoke, loads of lemon, vanilla and fresh oak. Hints of wood varnish, and oysters in ocean water.
P: lemon and vanilla and just a touch of smoked strawberry. A touch of briney oyster and a building smoke.
F: Sweet vanilla and tart lemons attempt to hold their own against the smoke but lose the fight. The bonfire smoke lingers and turns slightly ashy towards the end.

Overall an enjoyable whisky.

How many different Game of Thrones whiskys are there? I know those aren't the only two.

I believe that there was 8 different single malts plus Johnnie Walker White Walker.

Okay, now that is pretty sweet

Btw, local liquor store is having their "Dollar Sale" where prices are slashed. The deals on the cheap stuff ain't great, but the pricier things get slashed. I picked up a bottle of green Chartreuse for $41 last night. I might need to go back to get a bottle of good bourbon or scotch...

Sadly the sales on Don Julio weren't great or else I would've gotten that.

Goose Island Bourbon County Stout. A big beer that checks all the boxes for this type of beer. Nose is holiday/raisin bread. Flavor is raisins, chocolate and cognac. Tasty but I couldn’t imagine drinking more than one of these.

Mikkeller / Three Floyds Blå Spøgelse. Nice fruit lambic. Some barnyard on the nose. Tart but not over the top. Lots of berry. Very dry finish. A really good beer.

On a side note I went to one of the motherships of craft beer (The Toronado in SF) for the first time in 20 years or so a couple weeks back. I had forgotten how amazing and special that place is. Total time machine to the Lower Height circa 1995.

Glenfiddich Project XX
N: Vanilla, cinnamon and pears. A touch of wood varnish and oak.
P: Carmelized pears with a brown sugar and cinnamon dusting and vanilla sauce.
F: Short on cinnamon, vanilla and cloves. The pears struggle to be heard but can show up here and there. Gets drying and oaky as the finish lingers for just a short time.

Good but the oak is probably a touch too strong on the finish.

Lagavulin 8yo

N: Smoked oysters, hot rocks, smoked cod, ocean breeze, a squeeze of lemon and salt.
P: Smoked salted oysters with a drizzle of lemon juice. Also smoked almonds.
F: Turning more towards campfire smoke with a touch of ash. Some lemon and brine try to hold their own but ultimately fail to hold the smoke back.

When I first bought this bottle I was disappointed but it has improved with time. Still could have used about 2 more years of aging.

High West Rendezvous Rye

N: Mint, dill, toffee, caramel, rye spices and a hint of vanilla.
P: More restrained on the palate. Slight dill, mint and rye spices. The caramel and rye are there but subdued. Hints of cinnamon and butterscotch.
F: Now the dill, mint and rye spices come roaring back. A touch of caramel and cinnamon but they dominated by the dill, mint and rye spices.

A very good rye that shows both the gracefulness of age and the pop from the younger rye in the blend.

Won't be spending too much time in here beginning tomorrow. Lakewood French Quarter Temptress (an absolute steal at $8/4 pack) what a great imperial stout. Great chocolate and coffee and chicory flavor.

Finishing off my Live Oak Gold. Damn do they make great German ales.

I'm brewing with my brother in law tonight... We have the stuff for a typical Cali IPA but I'm thinking of what I should do as an add-in. I don't want the standard grapefruit, I'm thinking Pomegranate/habanero, mango and serrano pepper or watermelon/Anaheim .... something wild like that.

EDIT* we are going with the Pom/Habenero... brother in law decided. If nothing else it'll be an adventure.

I like that little twist. I just had a Belgian Quad last night brewed with habanero. Delicious little burn down the throat.
