Separately (in a different post to keep the posts up), we all need a game plan for 'life after IE' so we can connect. Gold helmets? Domer Domain? I'm not a member anywhere else but let's come to a consensus.
We could all meet at the @FakeBigHarry twitter feed.

Get your act together, site admin.

Shite... this place goes down every other month.
Not the site administrator's fault, but rather the database/servers used or chosen by the owners (which are NOT the same people).

Losing IE is like leaving your phone at home...or forgetting to pick up your kids from daycare for 2 days.

HA! I have a DD account too, but rarely use it. I was viewing over there for info during the Great IE Blackout of 2016, but to no avail.

Really?

I was able to log on as the only member with over 31,000 guests. Were those bots or is the site infected or slaved by hackers?

Seriously do you think over 31,000 people accessed the site at the same time while only one member could log on at the same time?

I did that twice, each time I was the only member logged on with the same 31,000+ "guests. At least one other member in this thread reported the same situation. That doesn't sound like inadequate bandwidth does it?

I assumed the owners were using Hillary's server located somewhere in West Virginia under 4 feet of Jonas's snow and was having power company issues, BUT again how did the 31,000 + "guests" log on? Or are they their permanently to boost ad revenue?

I was a mod twice under two different owners, the first time tech support was responsive and on the spot. Since then, by comparison it seems Congress is more responsive.

Seems like there are problems again, but this time lasting a lot longer. For some reason the only way I can access the site is in incognito mode on my iPhone, but won't work on the computer at all.

Literally the second I posted this the site becam inaccessible again, I'm calling conspiracy. But the fact that I could get on in incognito mode an not logged while 30,000 "guest" were on seems strange.

But seriously we need a back up plan, especially since nat'l signing day is a week away. Don't tell me not to worry about it cause there are obviously some serious issues with the site, going down multiple times in a few months span is a red flag. Going down for 3-4 days straight is a MAJOR RED FLAG.

Also don't tell me to use the Facebook page as a backup cause: 1) Not everyone uses Facebook, and 2) I have no idea what the fb page is named cause I couldn't find it and I tried. Searching Irish envy doesn't get you remotely close.

Did anybody else have that irrational fear that they got banned for no reason or warning as to why they couldn't get onto IE the past few days?

I thought I was gonna get a "It's not you, it's me" letter from IE saying they needed space and encouraging me to seek out other Notre Dame Football forums.

So I've been snowed in for basically 3 full days thanks to this blizzard... and IE goes down for virtually the entire time. Figures.

FWIW, I have no answers as to what the problem was. All of the mods I've talked to are also in the dark. Besides Pham, no one really handles the IT side of things.

Yea, now actually hearing and learning about the situation, it seems the site was subject to DoS attacks (pointed out by other moderators), as 31,000+ guests is almost unheard of. How this situation is remedied, I have no idea. I'm not a tech expert of any sort.

We should hire Liam Neeson to track down the guilty party and end them.

I would think the answer would be IP blocking for a while, only allowing registered users on for a few hours, then turning off IP blocking and seeing what happens. I can't imagine a zombie botnet would be able to hold up the siege for an entire weekend with that strategy---and if it could, identifying and blocking those IPs that signed on within a burst window would probably fix it.

Denial of Service (DoS) is pretty common. Basically the intruder writes code that mimics people trying to access the site. The volume of requests is too large for the hardware (firewall, router, switch and server) to handle. You have to have a good firewall in place that has the ability to recognize an attack. Whatever firewall is/was in place is not good enough.

My local ND Club has members who use ND Nation. Let's just say they are not computer-savvy folks.

Yeah, definitely not ND Nation. They submit posts via fax. I know...my grandpa posts there.

That said, my money is on the guilty party being a Michigan grad. They're still upset we crushed them 37-0 in the last game.

Hmm. I suggest we round up the usual suspects. Start with all banned posters. Well, first the Ohio State banned posters, then the others.

Or pay for some upstream filtering from their carrier. I'm betting you're correct and they have a low end FW. So many different types of DoS attacks these days.. curious though why they would target an ND board... doubt it was random..

This is getting dumb.

I mean if you own the place maintain it.

Might not be that simple depending on the type DoS.. doubt it was too sophisticated though.. the good ones are typically aimed at ransom of financial or retail/pay sites.
