Did anybody else notice that any time we motioned the TE back into the formation we ran it?

About what I expected offensively coming into the season. So much inconsistency at every position on the offensive side. Would really like to see Book get some action. Thought BW played better today.

I don't know that I expected this level of inconsistency coming in, but I do now. Wisconsin and Auburn getting dumped leaves ND in the top 10...but this team...man, they struggle to execute, and the coaches on both sides of the ball seem to be losing the adjustment battle in game...

From what I see, VA tech is a nightmare matchup and Stanford will make adjustments...those two games don't look good...add in some W TF loss, and I think the way this team is playing now, I can see 3 Ls.

I expected BW to improve, the OL to take a small step back. BW is the same, OL may have taken a bigger step back. OL played better today, and I think Hainsey has been playing hurt. Still a mystery....

I'm more comfortable at home with our D vs Stanford's O, than on the road and our O against VT's D...

Me too, and if I had to pick ND...I'd def take the Stanford game.

Stanford is hoping Wake Forest doesn’t beat them at the chance of playing a top10 ND team that is VERY beatable. No way any team on our schedule fears ND right now, they are all just hoping ND stays undefeated when we play them.

We are expecting too much from these guys-they are not a top 10 team. Kinda proud of how they play though always wonder what Kelly would do with real talent-like the power schools have-guess we will never know.

this is coming from a BW fan, but as far as the passing game - he is as good as he will ever be (in college at least). to expect anything more from him 3 games into his senior season is wishful-thinking to say the least.

I thought so too, until they beat the hell out of TCU in the 2nd half. Man, the OSU team-speed is crazy. They look like Oregon, a few years back.

Yeah, they really did kill them in the second half. Part of that was the TCU offense making ridiculously boneheaded plays like the TCU QB shuffle passing to the OSU defense for an easy TD. OSU’s defense can play nasty.

I think it's fair to expect better from coaching, and from special teams. I also think it's fair to say, "if this is as good as our O is, let's give Book a chance"...

What did he say and or do?

Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

1) he picked Vandy to win today
2) when they flashed the ND Vandy score during the Ohio St game he was calling he said ND was lucky to come away with the win. Said Vandy left a lot of points on the field.

I think we left more out there than they did and never trailed yet this is the spew that comes out of pretty boys mouth.

He wasn't far off IMO... between that strip, and the huge drop in the RZ, we could have easily been playing from behind. but regardless, F herbs.

I am not comfortable vs Stanford’s offense. If they get in the RZ, Costello will just throw up a jump ball & Arcega-Whiteside seems to make the grab every time. If he doesn’t, there’s likely a flag. It’s unstoppable.

After being a fan for some 30 years, I understand why everyone is doubtful this team will finish strong. We are a fanbase always waiting for the shoe to drop. We’ve experienced the highs only to be dropped low. We’ve gnashed our teeth at the inconsistencies and underwhelming performances for decades now. We look at a program like Alabama and the cynicism seems justified.

However, I believe predicting the future is shortsighted with this team. This will be a grind it out year, and the breaks will need to break our way as we seek to improve. Last year, before Miami, few of us had even thought we’d be in the hunt for the playoffs. All of a sudden, we were buzzing, and then the Miami fiasco. This year, we have hurdled our mini-Georgia in Michigan, overcome a letdown game in Ball St. that was never truly out of hand, and bruised out a tough win versus SEC-middleweight. We’ve also left a ton of points on the field in our coveted quest to blowout our lesser opponents. Teams come to play Notre Dame. We haven’t won a championship in decades, but teams play us like we are champions. And a big part of why this is the case is because we, as a program and fanbase, hold ourselves to that standard.

All we can do is battle. We’re battling. The hope is that we will improve. The hope is that we will learn from last year and finish strong. As a longtime fan, this team deserves a shot to prove what they’ve got in the long run. Part of being a fan of Notre Dame is believing whatever the odds may be, but the odds need to be played out over the course of a season. 3-0 is a positive start.

hope is indeed good ..

hope is indeed good ..

much if not most of the constructive criticism is because
many people passionately love notre dame and notre dame football

frustration may come from high expectations

the bigger danger would be apathy!

Nd just good enough to build lead, try to hold on for wins. Coaching is sooo inconsistent and they seem to play afraid of their QB situation. This program lacks killer instinct. This is all at home, really nervous about any road games.

He isn't wrong at all. We were 14 point favorites at home and were hanging on for dear life at the end. His pick would have looked absurd had we dominated.

We’re moving the ball and ready to score and BW gets pulled. That’s BK slowing the O in the red zone. With Book in the game it takes away another dimension of the offense.

Defense was Stucky again. O line improved. Receivers need to step up.

SIAP....I think it will be good for this team to hit the road. Get away from any distractions, no HFA to lean on. Dial in the focus.

Our D is only giving up 17 pts per game. We have a good chance vs. anyone on our schedule.
Wimbush looked better then the previous 2 weeks. He still struggles with throws into, or over, the D.
BK either needs to use Book, or not. He can't keep throwing him in for a few plays here and there, calling very conservative plays, and us not move the ball. That can't be good for Book's head.
BK has always struggled with putting away teams. Why?
This Vandy team is a decent team.
The D always seems to have good energy, the O not so much. Why is that?

One could counter that the strip was the D stepping up. That drop would have been tough to hold onto. With a DB draped on him.

I’m more frustrated that we ended up with FG’s instead of TD’s. Convert those to TD’s and the game isn’t close.

I hate statements like this... THIS TEAM lacks the killer instinct, but the program? Did you forget last year before Miami our average margin of victory in games was 25 points? Including 20 point win at MSU, 35 against USC and 21 against NC St...

I don't think the program doesn't have the instinct.. I think for whatever reason we get a 10 point lead and we get super conservative... I don't get why.. If you don't have faith in Brandon to just let him loose for 4 Quarters... Then play Book...

Exactly. I don’t really understand this Book strategy, aside from thinking maybe he’s better at the short passes (like the two to Weishar yesterday) that sometimes get you over the goal line. But, then, you lose Wimbush’s legs, which can also do the job.
Either way, we have to do better st finishing drives. If two or three of our four FG attempts yesterday are TDs, it’s an easy win.

I think it’s a lot to put on Book coming in cold. The TD pass to Weishar was almost overthrown.

We never hang 50-60 on anyone. And don't let BK say he doesn't believe on running up the scores. Late game tds, collapses happened last season as well. Msu late in game made it a little interesting i believe, Stanford, F Stanford. The program lacks it.

Last year I thought we did a great job of coaching to our strengths. We had a dominant O-line and could wear people down. Coach Long did a great job playing to that strength. This year, that's not our strength. And it's obvious that we play to our strengths early to get a lead, but then try to jam the square peg through a round hole by trying to RTDB and wear the team out in the second half. I don't think we have a the line or horses to do that.

I wish Long would just play up tempo, and cut the guys loose. I believe that when we play up tempo, we have more energy and focus. When we slow down, I swear plays are never as effective.

Long isn't all to blame. No one is ever 100% to blame imo. But he absolutely shoulders a very large portion of the problem. It's so obvious that when he feels the pressure and we speed back up, we move the ball effectively. When he slows down and tries to churn teams, we don't.

Coaches are only as good as they are able to adapt to their players. And I think offensively we aren't doing that. Long needs to figure that out.
