Yup on LSU. I think Stanford does as well. It will be close with the rest. I think UW or PSU could possibly jump us. If UW crushes Utah on the road, I would personally rank them ahead of ND given their only loss was a road game to Auburn (I know it was in ATL, but that's pretty much a home game for Auburn)

Stanford beat UC Davis. People need to pump the brakes.

We play to our level of competition. Not an awful thing if we continue that against VT and Stanford.

Really think the players executed their assignments well. Lea is great. Long is such a terrible play caller I don’t understand how someone can be so bad at playcalling after the first few drives. Kelly gets a C- for this one. If we win this game 30-17 he probably would get a B-. I get Vandy is solid but that game should have never been within two scores at the end.

Just please beat the brakes off Wake...

I’d really like to see book get a series, instead of just bringing him in when we absolutely need to score.

Offensive line was getting pushed around too much, playcalling was strange....wouldn't be surprised if BK starts inserting himself in both. Wouldn't mind it either....

team played hard, but we need to be better.

*edit: yeah....to all of the above...I get that we get everyone else's 'A' game....but i'm really tired of playing to their 'A' game....hope we get a few games where play our 'A' game.

Well that was frustrating. In today’s football it is unbelievable ND is averaging less then 24 ppg. There is absolutely no offensive identity. Who is calling the plays? Once they go off script it is a disaster. Pounding the ball all the way down the field then throwing it all three downs inside the 15. Repeatedly calling these WR screens is not putting BW in the best possible scenario to be successful. BK said at the beginning of the year they are going to call plays based on who BW is not who we want him to be. That was a complete lie. At this point they are going to wear down the defense by week 6. In year 9, I still can’t figure out who BK is offensively. Unfortunately Stanford will probably beat us by three TD’d again.

What’s the story on dexter? I’ve heard conflicting info on his return.

Just got off the phone with buddy from Indy.. mostly a bitch fest.
We both came away with....

You have to be either be
1) unhappy with BW, and or
2) unhappy with Long's play calling, and or
3) believe BK is too heavy handed with Long in terms of influencing his play calling and strategy..

Well, I don’t think it’s quite that cut and dry. It’s still a combination of some of that, but others as well. Just isn’t a lot of rhythm to the offense. And/or creativity at times.

Was Nelson the only difference between this and a pretty damn good offence last year?

My thoughts:

1. The BW/Book revolving door needs to stop. If you don't have confidence in your starting QB than play someone else.

2. Loved the play where Tranquil blew up the running back on the blitz. Would love to be in the film room to hear the breakdown of that

3. Defense was again solid today but is going to get sick of getting the offense out of trouble. Two many three and outs by the defense wasted by three and outs by the offense.

4. Yoon is the man.

The goal each week is to outscore the opponent. We've been able to do that and have not needed more than 20 points to do so. It hasn't been pretty on offense but we've gotten the job done. I like the idea of playing Book more but BW using his legs is a very important part of the success today and vs Michigan. 3-0 so can't really complain. There are many fan bases who would love to have our problems tonight.

- Late flags extending drives infuriating and one sided
- Pride should be smarter on that INT
- Newsome finally earns his captain button. Couldn’t hit a punt over 35 last week and bombed every one today.
- boo on the inconsistent coaching today. Frankly our D was schitt after Q1 and our O was only marginally better.
- Yoon can kiss Groza goodbye
-Liked the running of BW and he threw a few nice balls
- Tony Jones played great today. Still can’t wait for a game breaker like Dex.
- O line looked Chip Long mot impressing

More running for BW please and some better variety of playcalling. People think Chip is great and actually he sucks.

Why is it that two weeks Mina row the opposing QB looks like a five star compared to our MAC looking QB?

BW needs to make the next step or take a seat. The locking in on one WR who typically is double covered is unacceptable. Still waiting for the really good QB under Kelly. Kizer was pretty good but could have been better.

3-0, Offense sucks, D is good but on field to much to stay effective. We might be a top 15 team, but not a top 10 team.

1. OL was a lot better.

2. Play calling is uninspired. Are we the only school in the country that has the OC on the sideline and not in the booth?

3. Vandy came to play on offense. I thought coverage was good... their QB and WRs made some big plays. I think we need to be more aggressive with blitzes when teams are trying to push the ball down the field.

4. WRs need to be better. QB needs to be better. Thought the Ian Book “package” is kind of silly when Wimbush was best in the red zone last year and not great between the 20s.

5. I picked ND to wins 24 to 20 in the ISD prediction thing. I wasn’t surprised by the final result as much as I was surprised that we had the ability to put the game away in the first half and instead kicked a bunch of field goals.

with wiscy and auburn losing at home....
heck we might move up in the polls

Do we want to move up? Right now we don't even look like a top 10 team; let alone top 5.

Unless we figure out the QB/ play calling issues in a hurry, I'd rather not continue inflating expectations.

Yes, be we just barely got by two conference cellar dwellers..

Agree, not cut and dry, but directionally correct.

Very hot in the stadium. Lol

The bigger the build up, the bigger the melt down lol...
Walking the tight rope is not good for YJ's nerves.

We force them to punt first 4 possessions and three of those were 3and out. WTF happened after that? We were not aggressive enough. We have some risk averse pussies for assistant coaches.

You could have left out the risk averse/adverse part.

Postgame Thoughts:
1) Newsome is an impressive punter and he'll be playing on Sundays.
2) Michael Young needs to take Finke's spot at punt returns.
3) If you take away the quick scoring in all 3 games this team is 0-3.
4) ND will have to score more than 24 points against our bigger opponents left on the schedule.
5) Second straight game where Wimbush hasn't thrown a TD pass.
6) One of our WR needs to step up, I bet EQ wishes he would've stayed this year.
7) We haven't played on the road yet....

I'll take an ugly 3-0 start.
Go Irish!

I don’t see how the pre CFP polls really matter much at all anymore. I wouldn’t be too concerned about where we are ranked.

It’s just nice to be in the top 10 for a week or two since it won’t last long.
I think their might be 10 teams out there that could kill us.

5) Second straight game where Wimbush hasn't thrown a TD pass.

None of the receivers are a threat after the catch and he has only thrown one or two passes into the end zone. One today could easily have been a touch down except for a touch and one last week to Avery Davis could have been.

Can I please give an Ass-hat award to Flutie tonight for this comment when they were talking about Yoon moving in to second all time scoring? He said there should be two categories for scoring, one for kickers and one for "players". I know he probably didn't mean it like it came out, but he's still a douche for saying it.
