Here's the crazy part, the woman he's accused of assaulting is also claiming his innocence:

https://www.thecollegefix.com/female-student-usc-threatened-said-boyfriend-didnt-beat/

This is absolutely wild.

The perpetrator said he didn't do it.
The victim said he didn't do it.

Their office concludes he did it and kicked him out.

The victim is still his long standing girlfriend. And, there was never a police report filed. Apparently it was a rumor that got around campus that caused them to act. USC does claim that they were able to find video evidence of the action and that's ultimately why they proceeded the way they did.

For those in the know, is this the normal slow start with late commitments for USC or is this program really in the tank? They have 3 commitments and one is a kicker.

When it comes to college football, the entire state of California is a bunch of hot garbage right now.

USC has had an incredible amount of recruits jump ship the last few years. The Pete Carroll years feel like forever ago now.

Clay apparently likes to recruit even less than BVG

I just wanted to check because I remember them having slow starts in the past but you could always count on around 1-3 5 stars and 6-7 4 stars going their way in the two weeks before signing day, but it looks really bad right now.

This is a big part of why it's really, really hard for coaches to hang on once they reach the hot seat.

I don't think it'll be the same as it used to be. At least not until something changes within the program. Which would either be a huge season or a huge hire.

I still think their classes will be back end loaded which will be very different from ours. However, I don't think it's going to be of the magnitude they're accustomed to.

They are having major institutional issues (only 10% related to athletics) and Clay is being treated as a "lame duck" coach they were too scared to fire. Makes it virtually impossible to recruit.

Their best bet to have a good class is to fire Clay early and make an impact hire... I think they could be 10-2 and still not sign a good class because of the toxicity around the program.

might also have something to do with the fact that virtually everyone thinks Clay is going to get fired before Halloween. And that includes USC fans.

Yeah ever since he was hired it has never felt like he’s been nothing more than an interim coach. With the past problems and the academic scrutiny I imagine he is on some tight reigns. He may need additional approvals before he can accept some commitments.

Oregon is taking advantage of Cal recruits wanting to avoid the Cali universities.
With Chris Steele, Ducks landed 7 of top 21 California prospects
(in the 2019 class)

Only one player of those top 21 signed with UCLA. As with any new coach, Kelly is working through who fits in his system and players who are finding themselves buried on the depth chart or not finding themselves succeeding as they expected are transferring. Mora accepted a lot of recruits - 30 in '16 class, 19 in '17, and the transition year of '18 - 27. Kelly had 20 recruits in '19 -- 96 in those four classes. Many of those recruits were lower ranked at their positions and UCLA's multi-year APRs are the lowest in the Pac 12 for football. Some players just have "not on the team" designation as the reason. Kelly may be dealing with academic issues, too.

But players are transferring in. This article says UCLA has 71 scholarship players for 2019 and 62% of those are freshmen or sophs. Although four of the OL positions are returnees, LT may be manned by a true Freshman.

The only thing that could be better than USC hanging onto Helton is rehiring Joey Freshwater...probably.

UCLA has been notoriously tight with the Benjamins the past 15-20 years which has hurt them in recruiting. They just recently upgraded coaches salaries and the football facility in the past 1-2 years. Let's see if it pays off.

Mike Frank at ISD brought up a nightmare scenario: Urban going to SC once they fire Helton.

This isn't gonna happen is it?

That's been rumored since he left OSU. Honestly, I think Urban is smart enough to steer clear of USC right now. They're going through a lot institutionally and I think he knows how important a decent AD is for success.

They say time heals all wounds. Chip Kelly wound back up in college football again. So did Petrino. As did Briles and Hugh Freeze. That said, for some reason I do think Meyer is done. After the Florida exit, and then Ohio State...surely someone would take a chance on him, but I think he really is done. He's done a pretty good job marring his legacy at this point and I don't think he wants to tarnish it further...but if USC throws some ridiculous money at him I guess it's possible he'll prostitute himself.

Briles is coaching in high school. You may be remembering the dustup from when Southern Miss interviewed him without telling the school's leadership.

USC would have to hire the right AD to convince Urban to take the the job, IMO. No sane person with half of Urban's resume would work with Swann.

Actually my knee jerk reaction to Briles and USC together is basically, "Yeah, I wouldn't put it past them..."
