They're playing the game with transfers not HS recruits. At least according to their 247 insiders.

Question is whether you can win like this. I guess anything is possible.

It can't be easy to coach a team full of mercenaries though. Not that I give a shit about Lincoln's day to day. It'll just be interesting to see how long he can trudge through it without winning a title.

Room and Board at SC is almost $20k / year while this apartment is probably like $35k - $45k / year. Great sell / optics for the relatively small additional cost.

But does the room really cost USC $20k to room him and board him? Instead of making money they are losing money.

I could see teams building or buying whole condo/apartment buildings just for sports/players. They may not say it’s for players because of the optics and because it would be looked at as campus housing but it’s going to happen somewhere.

USC's not paying for his apartment. Some booster is. He probably wasn't going to live on-campus anyway, and even if he was, USC has lots of other regular students it can lease that dorm room too instead of him. And most P5 schools already have athlete dorms, don't they?

To me the big issue here might be that if you want to be a junior professional athlete with some significant disposable income, it's a lot more fun to do that in LA or Miami than in South Bend or Tuscaloosa or, I suppose, Athens, Ga. Same old story but with even more money involved.

Yeah that was the front, but it sounds like he ran a sloppy shop in the athletic department.

Heard on the radio that there were some questions about him when he was at Cincy, but USC either ignored or decided not to look into. Sounds like he requested some back rubs from staff. Part of an article in the LA Times....

SC seemingly knew that beneath Bohn’s flashy accomplishments, there was trouble brewing. According to The Times story, earlier this year USC retained a lawyer specializing in sexual and gender-based harassment, and in March, Gina Maisto Smith began interviewing members of the athletic department.

It seems obvious that in those two months, Smith could have confirmed the discontent discovered by The Times. One would think that, at the very least, given that information, USC would have been prepared to part ways with Bohn by settling on a replacement.

But, no, the resignation was sudden and there was no replacement in place, which can only lead one to believe that USC was never going to remove Bohn unless pushed.

If true, that is a condemnation of USC and Carol Folt, and that’s not even the worst of it.

What makes this whole affair even sleazier is that it’s now apparent Bohn should never have been hired in the first place.

Six sources in The Times story — including two willing to be named — describe questionable behavior at Cincinnati. How does this never come up in the vetting process?

We’re not talking about sources from Bohn’s deep past. We’re talking not about childhood grudges or grade-school gossip. We’re talking about his most recent job! Nobody at USC bothered to do a deep dive on his time at Cincinnati before hiring him directly from … Cincinnati?

Robb Williams, former Cincinnati head athletic trainer, told The Times that he saw Bohn make unwanted contact with women on several occasions, including touching their shoulders and backs in a way that made them feel visibly uncomfortable.

Kim McGraw, former Cincinnati athletics director of business affairs, told The Times she witnessed Bohn squeezing women’s shoulders and putting his arms around them in ways that made “her skin crawl.”

Was nobody from Cincinnati approached by USC or its hired guns Turnkey Search? Or did people talk and they were ignored?

its amazing to me how frequent this shit still is. Seems like every other month someone gets fried, and yet there's a million others out there just carrying on (both those who are doing the actions and those not doing anything about it).

Also, if this guy wouldnt have left for USC, he would presumably still be in his position at Cincy right? So all these people who had their skin crawling including a former AD of Business Affairs, were just totally cool with it then?

Just bizzare stuff as it relates to these workplace pervs in all aspects.

Are the USC cheerleaders housed next suite over?

It sounds like an investigation was beginning at Cincy. One national podcast said how someone who worked at Cincy thought he was going to be gone, but not to another school, so they were surprised when USC hired him.

That is laughable. They gave $100k to the top women's basketball high school recruit so guessing they would be spending a tad more on football. I think they needed a quick rebuild on the football field so the best way to do that is through the portal. That is their emphasis, so where the money is showing more currently.

How many millions of dollars did A&M blow on kids that entered the transfer portal after freshman year after their “historic” class in 2022. Just isn’t a sustainable practice.

This is correct. And your best ROI on NIL money is definitely with transfer players, so I think they're being smart.

Guessing they will be playing the game here. Their alumni are in a do whatever it takes mode, even with the Olympic sports, to be successful at the highest level. Like I said in my earlier post, the best way to get back quickly in football is to use the transfer portal, but they are definietly using NiL at the high school recruiting level. Heck, they were using before it was "legal" so why would they stop now.

They're not doing it like A&M/Oregon/Miami/Tennessee have been though. At least in football. If they were I suspect they could have any offensive player they want, given Riley's track record. The relationship between USC and its collectives has been kind of screwy, and a few prominent ones have come and gone. I think that was one of the criticisms of Bohn, that he's been behind the game on NIL.

Also. How does USC only have three commits at this point for 2024?
