1. We won the 1st and 4th Quarters. We got out fast, and we finished strong. USC is too talented for us to have kept them down the whole game. The only quarter we really looked bad in was the 2nd, and I will take that.
2. We all know that there are a lot of reasons that ND will have to SIGNIFICANTLY improve, in order to make, and do something in, the playoffs; Deshone Kizer is one of those reasons. This is NOT a bashing of him. He is a first year starter who wasn't even getting starter reps in Spring ball. He is doing well, for a "rookie". But he still looks like a "rookie". He simply cannot continue to hold on to the ball so long, and take so long to make decisions. He still has trouble with some throws, too. I think he is learning quickly, but probably not quickly enough for this season.
3. There is no reason why we cannot beat the rest of our schedule. It's not a guarantee, obviously, but we should be cautiously optimistic about the rest of the regular season. After that, it will be up to the committee.
4. Another game where the coaches made good adjustments at halftime. I really think that we ought to see the end of all of the calls to fire Kelly, or VanGorder, or Lyght, or Denson, or Longo, or any other coach?
5. Faith is the word of the day. When it comes to America's preeminent Catholic University, and her football team, a little bit of faith is not really too much to ask for, is it?
My game ball goes to CJ Prosise, who once again looked like a guy who has played running back all his life. I've been incredibly impressed with his growth this year, and it's subsequent success.
