That was announced a few weeks ago, Stanford still has to schedule another P4 opponent. Hopefully BYU on that date and Stanford in USCs spot.
Great. Ending another season in the middle of the damn night.

At least BYU is on a nice upswing lately. 11-1 this season (yeah, I know, in the Big 12 and they got smacked around in the CCG, but it's something). Now let's just hope they stay good for the series and it isn't one of those "they were a solid team when we scheduled them" collapses and BYU goes 4-8 the two years ND plays them and the Irish get grief for "not playing anybody."

You must be new here. Notre Dame could play at Bama, Ohio State, and Georgia in a single season, and people would still be pointing at Navy and Stanford.

Just going to leave this here…

Don't you love that he painted ND as the team "running" from the rivalry in the opening, before proceeding to spend the next 6+ paragraphs whining and crying about the strength of the USC schedule and why it was impossible for them to remain competitive if they continued to play Notre Dame per tradition? It's one thing when a writer authors a "hack" article. That was pure crybaby bullshit, deflecting from a team wanting to compete because their schedule is already sufficient to make the playoffs without playing their rival.

While USC might be the only Big 10 team to play an OOC game past October, the precedence is alive and well in other P4 rivalries...

Georgia (SEC) plays Georgia Tech (ACC) late in the year alll the time. Florida (SEC) plays Florida State (ACC) late in the season. Oklahoma (SEC) and Oklahoma State (Big 12) play Bedlam on rivalry weekend. Pittsburgh (ACC) and West Virginia (Big 12) play the Backyard Brawl at various points on the schedule. The fact that most of those games feature in state travel is irrelevant. The cross country travel component of ND vs USC is a feature of their rivalry, not a bug. It's a significant part of story and tradition. Both teams have to do it, and until recently, neither team complained about it.

Make no mistake, this is about one thing. Both Jenn Cohen and the sycophants covering for her are trying to make it easier for USC to make the playoffs. They know that the easiest way to facilitate that is to nerf USC's schedule because the Big 10 slate is already strong enough and USC is floundering in national relevance, partially as a result of joining. It was USC that said "change the game to X dates in perpetuity, or we're walking away." ND called the Trojan bluff, not the other way around. USC bet on the fact that Notre Dame's independence was too reliant on the USC game. Notre Dame filled the gap with a quality opponent before the negotiation even fell apart.

ND is 11-4 in the series over the last 15 years under the combination of Brian Kelly and Marcus Freeman. USC isn't walking away because they're the only Big 10 team playing a quality OOC game late in the season. They're walking away because they've been getting their asses kicked in the series and if you can't beat your rival, it's easier to run from them based on a technicality.

This is as much a Big Ten issue as it is USC issue. I don’t think Washington/Washington State or Oregon/Oregon State would have any issue keeping their games on rivalry weekend if they could. My guess is the Big Ten knew this day would come after a few years for USC and wanted a uniform stance across the board with regard to old rivalries moving to Week 1 - 4 for Big Ten teams. If they allowed Washington to play Washington State in Week 14, little excuse would remain for USC, who has publicly cited that they would be the only Big Ten team to do so. Then there is the fact that ND votes with the SEC on the 5 + 11 model whereas the Big Ten wants AQs, aka non conference games don’t matter.

USC is the one running and gladly at that, but the Big Ten is the one using the game as a leverage tactic for expansion and CFP format conversations.

Like Philly said, are people correct that it would be easier to just join the Big Ten? Sure. But the Big Ten is as much the leading cause of the destruction of the sport as any other party and joining that, a conference that has also pissed on us for 50 years is not wholly attractive to anyone that is a fan of ND for reasons besides they are good at football.

Riley reposting a video of Colin Cowherd on instagram claiming ND is the reason the game is not being played. Dude is such a loser.
Notre Dame IS the reason the game is not being played, in the sense that Notre Dame has become a very good team, and USC doesn't want to play any very good teams they don't absolutely have to. That's on us, clearly.

Bill Plaschke was consistently the absolute worst contributor on Around the Horn. Anyone who watched that show with any consistency should know how much of an idiot he is.
He was a tough listen. Couldn't get past that lisp.

This guy is an elite follow but basically has been outlining this idea of just play in Week 0 seems like a hollow offer.

SC media & fans are claiming that waivers are easy to get & would likely be granted if ND would just do what SC wanted them to do…LOL

The Week 0 stuff is weird. Why not play some other time before the Big Ten season starts? Why insist on Week 0?

I know the real answer but someone should point that we could simply play in Week 3 or 4. It doesn't appear that USC has games scheduled yet in those weeks. I'm sure we could have moved the Purdue game.

Edit: Also, without us on it, USC's nonconference schedule going forward is a joke. USC Trojans Football Future Schedules - USC Athletics
