why cant we have grass? Wouldnt that be a great thing for a home field advantage? Not only would teams dread coming to play at ND because its hard to win but they would have to deal with the grass and maybe the mud if it rains and what not. Jumbotron is cool in my book but I want to keep the grass.

I would honestly love a jumbotron. I spent the past 10 years saying 'there is no bad seat in ND stadium", but after the purdue game this year, i've had to change that opinion. seats in the corner of the visitor endzone, low in the low bowl, are terrible. All i saw was golson fumble and a shitload of purdue horns. waste of $160.

Import some sod from the old sod. Grass in Ireland is used to cool, damp and overcast conditions. Much like the conditions in South Bend, though they may need to ice it down during certain months.

Screw the jumbotron. Just install (securely) Wi-Fi or Bluetooth enabled iPads linked to the network control booth for every seat.

It might just be less expensive ...

Wouldn't you have to take care of the hybrid stuff much in the same way as regular grass? (assuming we went that rout) The turf like the indoor practice field i think you just spray for gems and throw done rubber on it every so often.

Consider that as ND is "irrelevant", why waste all that space on the Chi Trib, SBT, and others who will still pillory ND whenever possible? Save the 500 or so seats given away and the supporting cost which over the season run around $400,000 to $500,000. Let them buy a ticket and file their stories from their smart phones. They can still put words in the mouths of coaches, players, fans, and administrators at their leisure.

Some wind turbines atop the reconfigured structure could provide some offset for the carbon footprint.

I don't think it's quite "moronic" to talk about field turf... The grass held up pretty well this year, even after the Stanford game. But if there were to be two weekends in a row with rainy conditions, the grass suffers.

Plus, I think I recall BK being in favor of field turf after his experience with it at UC, and I don't quite think he's a moron...

DC--2 years ago in the big house game at night...TJ jones doesnt score that touchdown inside notre dame stadium. the only way he makes that cut on the 5 yard line (or wherever, just short), is on field turf.
