Nice Crist plays this year. Heap has to sit this year anyway and we learn Charlies system. Good deal for Chuck.

Great get by Charlie! Heaps has to sit out anyway plus he can have Heaps learn from Crist who was in Weis' system before. Kansas football has become a team I root for!

Transferred to Kansas. Wow, great day for QBs for them.

For all of Charlie's faults, he sure can recruit QBs.

Charlie's faults were just this. Offense, Offense, Offense. Now if he could get Teo to come for a 5th year you might be on to something.

Trust me, a bit of offense this year would have at least given us a reason to clap. 95th in the country in points scored.

Who cares? Just because they got Dayne and Heaps, they're going to become relevant? It doesn't mean that Charlie will magically learn how to be a good head coach...

I care.

That said, there is some truth to your statement.

Three points of rebuttal...

1. I may be in the minority, but I thought Charlie was getting better. He was adjusting his coaching style and getting better at working with college athletes. I think he would have turned it around eventually, but the fan base wasn't going to give him time.

2. Both of these guys are massive upgrades. Not just small ones, massive. And they both play the most important position on the field.

3. These developments also lend credibility to the KU rebuilding efforts. Other recruits (Dieter?) see what's going on and might sign up.

Dayne and Heaps were hyped coming out of high school, but they've been flops in college. I understand they're big names, but the production hasn't matched the hype. I also thought Charlie was close in 2009, but this past year at Florida showed me that he doesn't fit well in the college game.

KU will always be a basketball school, just as ND will always be a football school.

I am not sure why you hate Charlie so much, but it really comes through in your posts. He is a smart, competitive guy, and he will learn from his mistakes at ND. Also, lets be honest, if he goes 35-27 w/ 2 bcs bowls and 4 total in 5 years at KU, there will be statues of him everywhere. Charlie is a MASSIVE upgrade over Turner Gill, and Dayne/Heaps represent the most QB talent at the same time in Lawrence ever, that is why KU fans are VERY excited today.

Heaps hasn't really been a flop. He had a very good Freshman year and was the MVP of their bowl. He got passed on the depth chart this year for some bad play...that's true. But, he's still a true soph this year.

Dayne's a tougher one to read. After being groomed in one system, he never quite got the hang of the spread. Now he gets to run it again.

Dayne also didn't seem to take incredibly well to the big stage. I can tell you that Memorial Stadium holds 50,071. That's a smaller stage.

We'll see with Charlie. He's smart. He's been around college for 6 years now and got to watch a coach from afar this year. All three are upgrades in Lawrence. 10 wins next year? No. More than 2? I'd take the over.

Charlie can coach. He hit some speed bumps at ND, but isn't he entitled to a learning curve? He knows the game, he's a smart guy, he has a genuine desire to be a good coach and he can recruit. Unfortunately for us, Charlie at ND = Bill in Cleveland. DillonHall is the biggest hater I've ever seen and he hasn't once demonstrated any real football knowledge. Dude just HATES on everything. Seeing what Charlie is doing from afar, I'm willing to bet that team will be a real BCS football team quickly.

I hate Charlie? He's an ND alum, and I respect him greatly for that and for his efforts at ND. I supported him until the very end, but it's pretty clear that he's at his best as an NFL offensive coordinator.

Weis' winning percentage is the third worst in ND football history. BTW, what's your opinion of Ty Willingham? Because his winning percentage is better than Weis'. I admit I'm usually critical, but I usually give logical reasons for my opinions. Trust me, when we're winning ten games each year, my posts will reflect that. Sorry I HATE being mediocre.

Good for him and Charlie. If there is one thing he has proven, he can develop quarterbacks.

Great pick-up for Charlie. Have Crist as a stop-gap for next year (and hopefully exceed expectations).

During which, you get to groom Heaps for a year, and then have him for two more in Charlie's system.

I'm guessing this is the dream start for Weis.

Cool...I would presume some of the more proactive recruit nicks would have known... Just hung it next to "Crist to Kansas" since there was some general interest in the Heaps topic.

...thanks NDINLA

Great job by Charlie. As long as he gets a good defensive coordinator, he will be fine. I wish him all the best.
