Turf/ Jumbotron Thread

Its not just for me and my mother. Its for the players who play the game that we all love. The phasing out of the golf clappers, there will be the texters, tweeters, and facebookers. My point is this. I/we would rather have people cheering for their team (Notre Dame) then just sitting their mouth breathing.

If that's your preference and that of many others, maybe there should be a section (enclosed) for those who do not like people who are excited for the game. So, instead of a "Laz E Boy" there could be a an enclosure for the S.D.I .F.r's.

Why no issues with the way our fans look as a whole? It's like a bunch of confetti was spread throughout the stadium when they do the overhead view during games. Irritates the hell out of me!

I am against the blue hair brigade (DShans the only exception), but it is what it is. I went to only 3 games last year (two neutral site), and none this year. I have no right anymore to b-tch about it.

I was at the Ucla game last night. There have been numerous improvements to the Rose Bowl including a beautiful jumbo tron. It really pumps up the crowd and gets everybody going and making a lot of noise, and I don't think Ucla fans are huge football people, however they were loud lastnight. We sat in the new suites. When and if ND makes the renovations to the stadium they should build similar suites and put the older season ticket holders there, that whey they won't be yelling "down in front", and they will be cozier. The crazier, louder fans can fill the stadium seats. I believe this can go a long way in re-building a home field advantage.

My mother does what she can at her age. I'm not sure how many 70+ year old mothers can tell you who the QB of ND is, who the ND HC is, or does like the 3rd down empty backfield but she does. I can not tell you what the next generation will be like, nor can I tell you that installing a "Laz-E Boy" will be beneficial, (sarcasm) noted. What I can tell you is that 'down-in-fronters" will dissolve and maybe for a short time the ones with energy will prevail!

Now, lets put the shoe on the other hand. There are probably more people who stand, cheer, and shout during a football game than there are people who seem like they would rather be watching a chess match.

From my experience playing organized sports, I would rather the crowed be energized then sit in silence. So, no "Laz E Boys" just all out cheering and shouting.

My mother could until she was 93. Then when she stopped breathing, it got tough. I take her out to a game these days, and we never get crowded.

Just what data supports the notion, the supposition that plastigrass and loud music <iframe width="420" height="315" src="//www.youtube.com/embed/Aoq-aJE6Jd4?rel=0" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
combined with sequestering "Blue Hairs" (the major component to ND's string of "sellouts") to sound proofed boxes will guarantee the lively, raucous, rabid always-on-their feet crowd you so desire?

While a giant video screen might be of help with failing visual acuity, it won't mean shit in terms of standing on limbs with failing stamina, not-so-sturdy vocal chords and spending "influence" of well padded wallets. Who do you propose to fill the seats, paying enough to support the expenditure?

What would screens of that size do to the atmosphere and experience of attending an ND game in the stadium? It's the "extra 44-foot-wide buffer space for graphics and other content" that is most worrisome.

While I certainly think preparation and motivation are the biggest components when it comes to success on the college football field, I do believe the crowd factors in there too. Is it a coincidence that our best season in years came after we introduced music over the loudspeakers (I know it was there for part of the previous season). Theres also the fact the university started a movement/theme of increased crowd participation with the "staND" statement. I've heard blue hairs, my grandfather included, say the phrase "I'll cheer once the team starts winning again." Thats a load of BS. The team should be supported in good times and bad, and as fans I feel like we owe it to our defense to be loud when the opposition has the ball. Fans don't realize the impact a loud stadium has sometimes. I firmly believe we wouldn't have been locked up so tight with Southern Cal in that '05 game had it not been for a little extra motivation from the crowd. It didn't hurt that we drew some false starts from their offense a few times too.

No 'ludes, man. I was enough of a chill, rubber band man without 'em. More a Window Pane, 'shrooms and mescaline Dude. Maui Wowie was out of my price range. A little Acapulco Gold on occasion; when I was flush enough to splurge.
