I was under the impression that other schools lowered the playing surface when they put in turf. This added capacity and noise levels. Any word if the field will be lower?

I think that's when they had a track around the field.

Yeah, I heard it will be A LOT lower...Arena football/XFL like. Apparently we think it appeals to the new recruits and younger generation. Also see Xbox 4s installed on the sidelines for the kids on the bench, so they don't get bored...or board.

14 for '14: Best college football stadiums

"Notre Dame Stadium
The Irish are slowly changing the perception of their stadium being the most old-school venue in the sport, but no one can deny it's an unbelievably cool place to watch a game. While the long grass is gone and "Crazy Train" and Dropkick Murphys get played way too much, there are still plenty of must-see traditions to take in. With Touchdown Jesus overlooking the House that Rockne Built, this is one fantastic place to watch a game."

Is it just me or does it look like the surface is being built up higher than before? Plus they still have to put down the turf. Maybe i'm wrong can't tell much from the picture.

Joe Pa was like a tradition. We see how that worked out. Harbored a molester for years. Ruined several peoples lives. I'd rather not have their tradition.

A friend just texted me that his uncle got a tour of the construction and said that the lines in the end zone are being replaced with text reading "Notre Dame" and "Fighting Irish." If true--he's a huge OSU fan who could be fucking with me but I sincerely doubt it--then I'm pretty damn dissapointed in ND.

Sorry if that had already been confirmed or not.

I would be SOOOO happy. The lines are seriously outdated imo.

If you are going to change it, at least make it something cool like the checkerboard pattern with blue and green.

Maybe we can put gold shoed unicorns in one endzone... and leprechaun statue made of potatoes in the other.

I wouldn't have voted for it but I don't hate it.

To elaborate...

My position has always been that if an update to the stadium improves the quality of play or helps recruiting I'm all for it. But with something like this, I doubt it has any measurable positive impact on recruiting. I would have preferred we kept the old design so we differentiate ourselves from other schools as much as possible.

That being said, it will probably look cool and doesn't affect my life much either way so whatever.

I agree with BB here. No need to change it. The diagonal lines were fine.

You realize Irish/Potato references are not PC and you have been placed on ultra double non-secret probation.

My initial reaction is I don't like it, and I've been pro-change on every topic discussed so far. But when ND does something new, it seems like they always surpass my expectations in a good way (only exception being the shamrock unis of 2012. I didn't love those).

I'd have to see it to say no thanks, because I bet their design would look bad ass. However, I still think the gold/blue 'ND' at the 50 is most likely, with the endzones staying the same. IMO, shouldn't do the ND logo plus the endzones. That's a bit much, IMO.

I'm hardcore anti-turf but I could dig the endzone paint if they use this font:

UM0680-P2457126.jpg

They also better keep it "Fighting" Irish, with the "g". I really really hate all the "Fightin' Irish" stuff.

I agree, not fan of the "fightin'" stuff either. I would be surprised to see them do anything other than some sort of block lettering if indeed they do put lettering in the end zones, IMO

But we all gonna watch the freakin game. So who cares.

Using that logic, let's just paint a big ol' scrotum in the end zone. We'll watch anyway, so who cares?

I prefer the stripes because it was unique, classy, and humble. I have nothing against an ND or clover on the 50-yard line, so I'm not against modernizing the field.

Should they use that font shown above, I wouldn't be totally against it. But for the love of god let's not make Notre Dame generic.

I don't mind it so much. I like the slash marks, but I could really care less about the end zones to be honest. I don't think we're hurting any tradition by switching it up. Aren't there pics of the stadium in the 70s with designs in the end zones?
