Timeshare Vacations?

That's the most common thing I hear from timeshare owners. "We really like it, but..."

So here's something funny... my grandparents are timeshare people. They own a bunch, and spend the entire winter using them. They talk them up like crazy, and because of respecting your elders or whatever no one ever calls them out on it. They're the only people I've ever met that are adamantly PRO timeshare with no qualifiers. The absolute irony is that my grandfather is an extremely frugal, extremely money-conscious guy... yet they bought timeshares?

Anyways, they let my cousin use one for her honeymoon in Hawaii. To also get a free flight out there and all kinds of other stuff... they decided to pull a Koon and sign up for one of the presentation things we're all talking about. But unlike everyone else's experiences described so far, it actually turned out super pleasant... because when they got there and filled out the stuff, the people discovered that their credit was so bad that they weren't eligible for the timeshare so they told them to not even bother showing up to the presentation and just enjoy the vacation. I guess they didn't check them out ahead of time like is standard operating procedure because it was all booked through my grandparents' timeshare.

Moral of the story: have terrible credit.

So how long do I need to go without paying my loans and credit cards to get bad enough credit to qualify for this deal. I got a 25th Anniversary coming up in two years and I'm ready to cash in "big time".

True story, about a year ago my wife and I were basically run out of a Toyota dealership after they ran our credit, sales man said he hadn't seen scores that high since before the crash, manager came right over and said there was nothing he could do for us... it was surreal... I assume they figured they couldn't game us so why waste time???

Anyway, I see these commercials for credit checks and in the ad someone with good credit is 'flexing their credit muscle' and getting all this great stuff... my wife and I laugh now, 'What a bunch of bull."

Try going in with cash. It's even worse.

One of my life goals is to buy my next vehicle with cash. Actual cash. Not a bank check, a briefcase full of money.

I've decided not to go the timeshare route. If we lived close enough to drive to the port, it'd be a no Brainer, but that alone adds $600 to our trip. I don't think it's a rip off, as they pay for everything, spare hotel tax, port fees, and cruise tax, which you'd pay anyways. The presentation doesn't scare me, I'd still like to experience that sometime in my life, but it won't be this year.

No you don't. For every excuse you have for not buying, they have an answer and will show you on paper. Then you give them your next excuse and they have an answer and will show you on paper. It's a form of mental torture they use until they have broken you. It may take an hour, it may take four hours, but they are like ISIS. Very determined no matter what obstacles they face.

I was hoping this thread would die when Koon announced he was not attending, but it still lives.

They probably wouldn't let you. The bank charges a fee for cash deposits over a certain amount. I suppose you could offer to pay that fee if you were so inclined though.

$5 for the advice.

If I remember correctly, you can purchase cars with cash but anything over $10,000 is automatically reported to some agency to make sure everything is on the up and up.

You f@cking bankers want to charge for everything.

Customer: Why do I have all of these fees?

Bank
One is for ATM usage.
One is the interest rate we charge on your loan.
One is for letting your balance go too low.

Customer: What's this $5 fee?

Bank : That's for helping you understand what the various fees are for.

So wait... this thread started with Koon asking for advice, then debating everyone why they were wrong and he was right, then it ends with him not doing it... Wow.. What else should I expected from a Koon thread

So I listened to advice and I'm the bad guy. If I ignored the advice, I'm the bad guy.

I'm a baaaaad man!

Idk why I clicked on another one of Koon Needs Advice threads but whatevs...

My grandpa and one of his brothers were notorious penny-pinchers. Paid cash for everything types. Apparently, one day my great uncle walked into a RV dealership (in typicla holey jeans, tshirt, and dirty ball cap wardrobe) and he was basically ignored/mocked right out of the place. So he went to the neighboring dealership and paid cash for a $90,000 RV and drove it over to the other place just to rub it in their faces.

Dirty ball cap is the only kind of ball cap. You need to wear a hat to cut the grass for a year so it gets some nice sweat stains and sun bleaching before you wear it out in public.

Then wear it with your expensive shoes.

I heard to celebrate the last day of the (pre-fall camp) offseason, we're bumping classic threads?

I hope everyone has their vacations booked!

Koon wouldn't be there. He's too busy trying to unload that timeshare contract he thought was a great deal.
