Looks like those Franciscans in Santa Fe were no fans of magic underwear.

Speaking of old Santa Fe...Death Comes for the Archbishop is a great novel by Willa Cather about the early American missionary Diocese of Santa Fe.

On my book list. Thx.

Health willing, we're going to take my girlfriend's Mom on a mission tour of New Mexico next spring.

That would be alright but I think I'd rather we play SMU in Dallas. They are on the up probably.

I'd be in on that, too. SMU recruiting has been ramping up. They continue successfully tapping the local DFW talent.and getting some highly rated players.

This game is going to be in October 2022 due to the open date, the same month the University of LAS VEGAS comes to South Bend to play. You don't see something like that very often.

Would be nice to get them to finally stop whining about the dropped game. But our '22 schedule is already a gauntlet and BYU would be another quality opponent.

I'm all for it, but man we have a tough slate next year.

Just looking at Brian Kelly's first team at ND and how much better we currently are at "scheduling for success". In 2010 our schedule looked like this (Group of 5 in bold):

Purdue
Michigan
Michigan State
Stanford
Boston College
Pitt
W. Michigan
Navy
Tulsa
bye
Utah
Army

USC

Pretty brutal first four games and we started 1-3, ensuring a disappointing season. We played five non-Power 5 teams that year but all on the back half of the schedule. We've really gotten smarter how we mix in the Group of 5 games into our schedule:

FSU
Toledo
Purdue
Wisconsin
Cincinnati
V. Tech
bye
USC
UNC
Navy
Virginia
G. Tech
Stanford

Obviously, Cincy would traditionally be an easier game and one needed after playing a tough game against Wisconsin. Was pretty hard to predict they would end up being this good when the game was scheduled. Overall, great job giving this team a chance to improve and have some early success.

Had this thinking seeing BYU/USC and thinking of OSU next year, BYU will be the _____ best team we play next year? Notables are:

@ OSU
@ North Carolina
vs BYU
vs Clemson
@ USC

Is it third?

Secondary, why do we get Clemson at home? Or is the schedule I’m looking at TBD for the home/away somehow?

I would say OSU is the hardest by far, then Clem and BYU

Why in the hell are we playing North Carolina so much? Let’s get Duke back on the schedule

The ACC teams we play are tiered. We play The “top teams” like every four years and the others more often like every two years and home and away swaps. The top tier includes Clemson, FSU, Miami. Plus I think we play four teams one year and five the next. Very wild. 2020 was different because of COVID

Next year’s schedule looks rough. This was a “rebuilding year” for Clemson, Ohio State loses some skill talent but has tons waiting in the wings. ND will likely be a heavy underdog in both games. Can you imagine if Buchner’s first start is on the road in the Horseshoe?

BYU is pretty good but they were soft on defense this year and I’m not sure that I see that improving much.

USC should be “up” next year with a new coach and fixing some of the culture/discipline problems holding them back.

ND should be favored in all of the other games baring something catastrophic. Looks like 9 win year on paper.

Which sucks because next year's team should be better than this year's team.

But it is way too early to tell. We thought this year's 5 game stretch in October was going to be tough. Turns out most of those teams sucked ass.

We will not be a heavy dog to Clemson, IMO.

It was not a rebuilding year for Clemson. It was a rebuilding year on offense. Literally every starter on D returned besides Kendrick who transferred to UGA

They’ll be potentially losing Skalski, Spector, Nolan Turner, Booth, Xavier Thomas, Zanders, Goodrich, Tyler Davis, and KJ Henry

Clemson was 3.5 pt dogs @ Pitt, 3.5 pt favorites vs Wake and Louisville down the stretch. Team is losing most of their extremely good D more than likely. Expecting us to be a heavy dog in South Bend would be quite surprising. Their O would have to do a literal 180 and D replace every multi year starter with no drop off
