For those players in the Transfer Portal who have graduated, David Shaw has said he encouraged many to enter because it is difficult to get into Stanford's graduate programs. However, in the past, Stanford has had many fifth years return. This year eleven of the nineteen redshirt Seniors have entered the Transfer Portal. Two others who placed their names in the Portal have pulled their names and are returning.

A couple of players in the Portal are walkons. Stanford does not necessarily publicize if walkons are given scholarships. Many walkons due end up with football scholarships since Stanford regularly falls short of eighty-five. University policy is that anyone whose family income is less than $125,000 gets free tuition.

My notes have Stanford currently at eighty-two scholarship players not counting any of those in the Transfer Portal returning. Andrew Pryts and Scooter Harrington have pulled their names from the Portal.

I think there was some truth to the fact that a lot of transfers were in case they didn’t get into a grad program at Stanford but man, they are really getting killed in the portal. If Michael Williams and Jovan Swann find new homes then they’re officially screwed. They’ll have 7 scholarship DLineman to play their 3-4. It’s such a limited amount of depth that idk what they’re gonna do there. They seem to have some good depth at WR, DB, and LB (maybe RB) but other than that they’ll be young behind almost all of their starters. There’s a possibility they come in undefeated into ND and off a bye week but I’m not sure they’ll be undefeated or fully healthy to face us. If they can stick to their starters then they’ll be a tough test but depth will be a concern for them next season.

they are becoming Charlie Weis era ND - a few studs on the offense (QB, WR, RB) but everything else thin and flaky

Well, they don't have much depth on defense but they do have some front line defenders that were coveted prospects.

Booker, Andres Fox, Tristain Sinclair, Stephon Herron, Joshua Pakola, and Ryan Johnson to name a handful. The key will be staying healthy.

Idk if I'd say Notre Dame has returned, but this is the closest they've been to prominence in my lifetime. They'll have a chance to truly arrive on 11/7.

One hundred percent. It was around the early 2000's that I started to really get into ND football. How soon we forget the 2005 WE ARE BACK 9-3 campaign? We are getting really close.

There is really good Top 10 / playoff contender and there is Bama, Clemson, Ohio State, Lou era ND, National Championship contenders.

ND's been there before so ND's back but not that back.

Yes, Stanford returning to mediocrity would be absolutely marvelous for us. Honestly, we need every academic team from areas we regularly recruit to remain mediocre. We know that one of our premiere pitches is that you can set your self up for life academically and athletically here. It's arguably one of the few things that separate us from the likes of Clemson, Alabama, and OSU and makes it possible to recruit at a potentially similar level.

On Wednesday, the Cardinal added four-star offensive tackle James Pogorelc, three-stars in defensive end Lance Keneley and safety Scotty Edwards, as well as defensive tackle Zephron Lester.

Stanford Adds A Trio Of Commits (4:04 p.m.)

Stanford added a commitment from two-star defensive tackle Zephron Lester. The New York native had other Division I offers from Temple, Army, Rice and UMass. Lester ranks as the No. 3,001 overall prospect in the 2020 class. The Cardinal also brought in two-star offensive guard Max Kalny from Kansas. Kalny's only other FBS offer was from Air Force. Finally, three-star Georgia linebacker Kiersten Lee committed to the Cardinal. He picked Stanford over an abundance of other Ivy League offers. Stanford's haul during the 2020 cycle ranks 22nd nationally and third in the Pac-12.

Kalny, Lee and Logan Berzins, DT had previously been listed as Preferred Walkons but signed today. The implication with the late signees and possible conversions of PWOs to Signees is that Shaw does not feel any Transfer Portal players will return. Shaw seems to have given scholarships to the PWOs to get to 85.

Stanford lands Joshua Karty, the number one Kicker in the nation. Karty's average rating is 0.8426. That rating ranks him nineteenth highest of their twenty-five commits.

The six with lower ratings are the late signees (5) and a long snapper.

Starting? He didn't play in 2019. He finishes his career there with 95 rushes for 363 yds for 3.8 yds per carry in the two years he played. He may not have wanted to be behind Austin Jones. Speights will have two years to play and is a grad transfer. Maddox, RB may also leave for a fifth year elsewhere. With Adebo returning and Kyu Kelly the other starting CB, will Butler in addition to Ebuh transfer?
