I don't mind if there is some embellishment to the helmet as long as the focus is the gold, which references The Golden Dome. I don't mind if they contain elements from years gone by, such as the modernized gold helmet with the shamrock on the sides.
The jerseys, pants and cleats have changed over the years but they maintained the theme with the helmet throughout. The tone and the sheen may have changed over the years but in the end, ND will be referred to as "The Golden Domers" for a reason.
I hate to sound like an old fogey but the uniforms have changed many times over the years, even subtle changes like the size of the font used for the numbers. The helmet until this Shamrock Series stuff appeared was one shade of gold or the other and that shouldn't change, IMO. By that, I mean that even though the uniforms themselves have changed over time, the helmets don't have to.
I understand that "signature" helmets generate extra revenue but that doesn't mean you have to get too far out. Do what you want with the rest of the uniform but the helmet should be straight gold. JMO.
