I think the right message to send, in terms of the University's main goals, would be to open TDJ's view of the field again... aside from that I really don't care what it looks like. I find it hard to understand how people get so worked up over it.

Been saying this for a while now -- ND started its slide when they blocked TDJ in 97. Reverse the curse!!

How can you say that? You can't be a real ND fan!

Stadium redo/improvements

Stadium redo/improvements

First comment would be if they are going to bang away at the stadium I would like to see TDJ back to total visibility to the field, that should be done without much trouble if they are going to expand. I'd like to see the place expanded to 100,000 and do it from the other 3 sides so that iconic item is more in play. $$$ should be no problem for Notre Dame. Secondly I'm all in for todays choices on artificial turf and what it brings to the play in all types of weather, just dont change the look (strips in the end zone and nothing at mid field ) its Notre Dame man! Lastly I have no opinion on the jumbotron other than will it interfere with the flow of the game, I for one wouldnt want to watch it much as I would have binoculars and would be watching things as they unfold. The jumbotron for me just seems a bit not needed but thats just me. If it means recruiting power then by all means do it. Todays kids want as much pizazz that they can get. It would be nice to see the game start with Rockne giving that little 30 second pregame that is sooooo famous. I'm old school but hey this is todays Notre Dame so if it helps get the recruits by all means do it. I just dont want a jumbotron for the fan experience because to me its not needed

I think you'll see a lot of neat clips like that. A couple of years back, the Pacers put together a clip that showed pieces from the early Pacers through to Reggie Miller. It looked like they were all playing in the same game with the voice dubbed in, so you had George McGinnis passing to Reggie for a game winning 3. I could see Clausen passing deep to Jack Snow for a TD or Ross Browner hitting Earl Campbell and Manti picking up the fumble.

It's similar, but not the same. The structures to be added have been narrowed exposing more of the concrete bowl, and then "deepened" with tiers like a Mayan pyramid or Ziggurat type appearance. In addition, if you look closely, the connection to the JACC appears to have been removed and the north end only shows one current style scoreboard as opposed to the two structures in the corners that could have held boards.

Supposedly the blurry one was shown to the Alumni Board at a meeting last week. If the blurry picture is an accurate representation of what they have settled on, they can do better, especially given the money and other resources they have available.

Have you seen a figure on "what's available" or are you just making assumptions that "it's ND, so they must be rich"?

From John Affleck-Graves, University Vice President via ESPN:

Affleck-Graves said the cost won't be known until all the specifics are decided. The university has a policy that it doesn't begin construction until it has 100 percent of the money pledged and 75 percent in hand in cash.

The number that's been thrown around is $300 million.

Video board in the south end zone.

EDIT: I lied. It's not a video board.

The decision and announcement regarding FieldTurf is imminent. As far as video boards?
“It is being deliberated,” Jenkins said. “But it’s not part of the announcement we’re making (Wednesday).”

All of this is the same I heard at the SC game.

Remember, the seats will increase in size to produce a more comfortable experience for everyone. So seating capacity will increase with seat size.

I don't know that anyone is talking about tearing the second deck off at the North end zone, but it would be a good idea! I just know that that view would never be further obstructed. The guys in charge went into it ear first, listening to everyone.

North endzone appears to be the only area unchanged. Same view as now.

So kind of.

Then it's all stupid.

I'm not sitting in the press box.

I don't give a rip about video boards.

I'm sure it will look very nice and all... but i'm incredibly disapointed that they didn't take the opportunity to return our lady to the stadium. All this means is that there will be at least another 20 years before they consider another upgrade to the stadium. So at least another 20 years (minimum) of the disgrace of covering up TD Jesus.

Our fans, especially our younger fans, have been clear in communicating their strong desire to have better access to data and video when attending our games—a view that has been reinforced by their experience in other stadia when we host our Shamrock Series games. Some of that will be addressed through enhanced broadband connectivity in the stadium and some by the introduction of video, but the shape that will take has not yet been finalized. However, to the extent we provide video—whether in the concourse or in the stadium itself--similar to the philosophy in Purcell Pavilion and the Compton Family Ice Arena, there will be no commercial signage or advertising.

No decision has been made at this time on the playing surface. We anticipate a decision being made in the near future.

Are there plans to build a structure on the north side of the stadium, facing the library quad opposite the Word of Life mural (“Touchdown Jesus”)?

At the current time, no. Should the opportunity and need arise in the future, the University will be mindful of the rich tradition associated with this space on campus.

So there you go.

I like it. Wish they'd improved the view of Touchdown Jesus, but I don't know how you can tear down those seats before the new ones go in without screwing over a lot of fans so I get it.

Hopefully the new scoreboard has video.
