Spring Practice Thread 2012

No, I will say, when I was a kid I used to wrestle, and my coach suggested I go to the Fieldhouse and watch the Soviet, and US team practice. Maybe I could learn something.

So, here I am a 15 year-old in amazement watching the best athletes in the world at my sport up close. I am absolutely in awe of the Soviet team and I say something to the guy seated to my right. A guy seated a row back, to the right says, "You think they are good, you should see a real team!" He introduced himself to me as Dan Gable, team coach, and invited me to practice every day until the event.

Well I got a chance to wrestle a whole bunch of Olympic Medalists. In particular were the Peterson brothers, Ben and John (G, S each). Now, once I was practicing with Ben. Ben was a monster, (compared to me. ) Once when we were working on the Russian Ride, I performed a great stepthrough and really looked good. If you saw a tape of that, you would have said, "WOW." Maybe even, "That was as good as a 70 yd run against the first team, in football." See?

Unfortunately, watching the next segment of the tape, you would have seen Ben come across my body, reacting like I was some kind of worthy competention and toss me like a rag doll most of the way across the mat. As I lay there in a crumpled pile, as my senses started to return, I heard him saying, "Is he dead? Did I kill him?"

Even a blind squirrel finds an acorn once in a while. It is what happens before and after that determines whether is luck, or the way things are going to be.

Insider Tip. If Rees is the starter buy Crown Royal stock. I will be consuming an alarming amount on Saturdays. Crown Royal looking Bullish expecting double digit comps.

Or, the Captain.....I will officially return to full time drinking this fall if Rees is starting at the beginning of the season.

The practice update video is up on und.com. A lot of footage of Bennett Jackson playing corner.

Anyone else notice that Tommy under threw EVERY one of his passes. If that is the best we can do then we are in some SERIOUS trouble.

Great video as usual, my notes:

Entire D-Line looked good except didn't see Tuitt and Day didn't look ready

Of the linebackers: Fox and Grace > Calbrese and Moore, also prince and Ishaq looked good throughout

As said before last 2 minutes is all corners and wide receivers mostly Jackson v Goodman

Bennett and Lo looked far superior to Atkinson/Brown. brown has looked very sub-par so far to me

Who was the big man who blocked out Lynch in the video? It was really impressive.

Also that cut by Riddick on the long run at the end of the video was amazing.

Jackson looked really good in coverage.

Collins worth looks really strong in the 1 v 1's.

Kap was demolishing whoever he was going up against.

Entire D-line looked really solid in the rodeo drills.

I thought EG looked pretty good and so Did Kiel. Also did anyone else notice that EG and Hendrix were running as backs during rodeo drill

Offense Goodman looked good running routes.... Niklas at TE is a headache for defenses and Riddick looks really good coming out of the backfield...

Defense Big Lou is a Monster 2 gapper.... Grace is no joke... Bennett has me impressed and all opposing Wr's should beware coming across the middle because Collinsworth will be decapitating people....

I noticed Gunner running one time and he ran about three yards outside of the cones. Coaches didn't like that :)

No i am sick of switching quarter backs every year. Hendrixs job to lose right now and it will be his till he graduates.

I feel you pain but sadly this is what it's going to be every season until 1 steps up and takes the job from all the other qb's.....

I'd like to see Hendrix take the reins but if he still can't grasp the offense that could be a real issue....

Tate Nichols. Really impressing at RT.

Hendrix is not the answer. If he were he would have played more last year and he wouldn't be jump on the spring ball depth chart by a RS Frosh who has never seen any game action.

I think the reason BK stuck with Rees last year is because he knows Hendrix is not the answer...and between the two TR gave us a better chance to win (debatable). EG's RS wasn't going to be wasted last year.

Bennett Jackson has the ability to be a very good cover corner this year. He goes and gets the ball which is unusual for a ND CB as of late. I am anxious to see how Bennett performs this year.
