Good points. I would just add that there is no longer a reason to read between the lines because Lynch is no longer on the team. The reasons of why he left are no secret. So all this rather negative speculation of Lynch amounts to nothing more than a petty defensive reaction; a "woman scorned" reaction.

NDFIrish, a chara,

I had to neg rep you. Everybody warned you. It was time to stop three pages ago. But you kept pushing. "The Instigator", that is what it says beneath your name. No one needs an instigator; that implies fights, or fighting. This site always welcomes someone who makes good points, stirs up the conversation, but hitting the same point time after time, when people have politely asked you to stop is too much.

AL didn't want to be here. Though he had impact as a freshman, we are fine and will not miss him too much, because your vitriol sort of matches the effect he has had on the team.

Beir bua agus beannacht,

Bogtrotter

The fact Grace is being compared to Te'o alone blows my mind.
Excited to see we have a great back up, that will do a good job stepping in Manti's shoes come 2013

Maybe you are getting mike and will mixed up. What everyone is reporting is Grace is good enough to play where Fox and Calabrese are playing, (next to Manti.) But Kelly and Diaco are keeping him behind Mantia at Manti's mike linebacker position. That being said, I didn't hear an direct comparison between MT and JG's skills.

doesn't surprise me...grace is a heady guy that knows the game well and arrives at the ball angry.

i have really high expectations for grace...think he can be a very good player for us and one we'll need, especially with no man'ti next year. hope i'm not hyping him too much.

if he was a little quicker, he'd be starting next to man'ti imo.

He who?

And who is slow, I really want to hear about that!

Brian Kelly on Rees: "If Tommy didn't turn the ball over at the rate he did last year, we'd be talking about this kid at the highest level."

Not very encouraging.

Unless you look at as he has made major improvements.

I respectively disagree with rees. SOS with pressure. Last year we ran over everybody with the run but never committed to it. This yr our line will be one of the best in the country. I think this will be great for golson to ease into leading this team past navy.

I really hope someone other than Rees steps up to the task. Rees is too vanilla for my taste. Especially in this offense. I think we are going to learn a lot in the blue and gold game. Who will be stepping up (if any) and make plays under pressure and at the big stage. I hope Golson is impressive at the game, and uses that momentum during the summer to get better. We just don't really know what is going on. Hoping for the best.

It cracks me up that you guys take those quotes and turn them around to be a negative. The kid was a SOPHOMORE last year. Most quarterbacks aren't stepping into the huddle as a starter until their junior year. Tommy wasn't a five-star out of high school, a kid expected to step in and play right away. He's going to be a junior which is a perfect time for a three-star to step up and start making something of his college career. If he's improving, stop acting like it's Doomsday. It's encouraging.

its common on a ND board these days.

Hearing a lot of positive things from spring, hopefully the BG game will show it to us. Thanks for the info Ironman

The more I think about this, the more it seems like we're going to see a combo of Rees and Golson in each game, unless Kiel or Hendrix really come alive over the summer/fall. In fact, it's just my guess, but I have a feeling Kelly's plan is to start Rees and use Golson in specific situations more and more each week until he's ready to shoulder the entire job.

I think if you had to handicap which player would start, it would still be kind of difficult. But if you had to handicap which QB would play, I think Golson has the best odds. Regardless of who starts, I'll bet Golson comes in to give the defense another look.

It's interesting that Kelly said there will be no special packages; he expects all QBs to be able to run the full offense. Which isn't to say that Kelly won't use QBs situationally; just interesting that he's taking a different approach this year.

Having the full playbook and calling the full playbook are very very different things.

Clausen's freshman year was hilarious as he would turn around and run out of the pocket with his back to the defense, never throw the ball away under any circumstances, and often look totally lost. However, I also remember seeing glimpses of his arm strength and incredible accuracy. He improved a lot from Fr. to So. year, and then again to his Junior year. He had the tools, bhe just had to adapt to the college game.

I am a Tommy fan, but I don't want him to start because he seems a little slow for this offense, his arm doesn't seem particularly strong, and his deep ball seems sub-par. These aren't the kind of things that change, IMO. If he starts, I think we'll be fine, so long as he cuts down the TOs: he can move the chains consistently and is very tough-minded. But to me, he is not really a weapon that adds another dimension to the offense.

Golson's issues sound more like Clausen's to me. I think Hendrix needs reps, reps, reps in throwing situations before he is a great option to start.

Burgers and beer. Simple, but effective.

I will be there with my kids, (some of my kids). It is a family day. If you see a mean little shiit, tackling his older sister, it's my son Brendan.
