I'll tell you what's not water under the bridge is Urbie still dogging The Irish... Has he not been following our latest QB recruiting efforts and results (uh minus the Moore and Knight dramas)? Stick to your Fox Sports job! Urban Meyer criticizes Notre Dame football's quarterback recruiting ... again
Not an urban fan at all. However, I don’t think he’s wrong with the take that ND shouldn’t have to go into the portal two years in a row. I still place that blame on the previous regime - it’s comical how bad the qb room was. I don’t see Freeman going into the portal for a starting qb for at least a couple of years.

I agree with Urban. ND should be able to bring in a top 10-15 QB every single year, or at the very least in 3 out of every 4 years.

Don't let it rustle your jimmies. Urban is just cashing an easy check when he gets to talk about football, and until ND has a top-5 pick at QB and/or wins a natty, he won't have to do any homework at all to talk about ND on TV or podcasts... he can just keep saying "they need to recruit and develop a stud QB of their own."

He's batting 1.000 for the general CFB crowd if he can fall back on that, no extra work or research required.

I went back and looked at the 247 composite. From 2019-2024, the following programs have landed more top 10 QB's than ND: UNC, Washington, South Carolina.

Left out Fields too.

I mean, it appeared at the time that we had Will Howard all but signed up and then dumped him when Leonard came available b/c Elko left. Urban's program didn't just take a transfer they took our sloppy seconds. But go on Urbs.

(All that said he is not wrong we should generally have a top 10-15 ranked QB in every class. And it's not out of the question that this class still will.)

And RL was OSUs number 1 target but RL didn't reciprocate the interest... So there is that

Sure but also we beat them by double digits three years in a row these past 4-5 years.
Which shows the difference between where ND and UNC football are as programs...not hard to think of where adding a guy like Howell or Maye would've taken the offense/program these past 4-5 years.

We do have a top rated QB; so called "committed" in this class (for the moment).

Urban has it out for ND, always has. In the Fiesta Bowl game I think he told one of his players if they could take out Jaylon to do so and it had to be one time ND commit Taylor Decker.

Can he just leave ND alone?

I don’t even think Will Howard was their 2nd choice. They wanted Leonard and maybe a few others before Howard and he seemed to be a hard get. But their roster is stacked.

Where did you read this, because it sounds like something someone would make up because they don't like the bad man who beats them on the field.
It's my own opinion...this is a message board.

I get that we got our butts kicked, I think it is something Urban would do.

Just so I understand and how this whole message board thing works:

Message board = make up what ever the hell we want to and it becomes truth.

Is that it?

You sure as shit didn’t post it as an opinion. Urban Meyer is a sleazy ass used car salesmen and definitely morally corrupt, but there are plenty of legitimate actions he has taken to back that up. You don’t have to make shit up and post it as fact.

I agree that Meyer is a "sleazy ass."

"Make shit up and post it" I simply posted an opinionated post like yours.

I will concede that you did qualify your statement with “I think” but it sure did read as you were making a statement of fact.

Right but how does that fall on Freeman? He became HC in 2022 where he inherited Tyler Buchner & Drew Pyne. WTH was he supposed to do? He should be judged on Minchey, Carr & future signees. I’d say he’s doing a fine job of correcting the errors made by BK & staff prior to his hiring.

The irony is that his successor at OSU who is supposed to be an offensive wunderkind has had to rely on transfers for most of his career. If Urban was so worried about ND, ask him why he continued to turn down the job.

Christ all mighty, irish andy is as mellow, anodyne, and inoffensive as any poster on this board ever. If we going at him it is definitely time for the season to start.

Thanks I appreciate it. I am ready to get this season rolling, I like the pieces that this team has, I can't wait for next week's game!

See where I said “blame should be placed on previous regime.” As in - not freeman

This is kind of a silly hill to die on at this point, isn't it? Five teams in the final top 10 last year had QBs who had transferred in. I think six of the AP preseason Top 10 this year do. It's just the nature of the sport now.

Yes I'd prefer we recruit and grow our own (like CJ Carr) but that's mainly just for continuity and the unique challenges Notre Dame self-imposes when it comes to undergrad transfers. Almost everybody is shopping the portal for the best possible QB. If Urban were actually coaching today he'd be doing it too.

If Freeman can build all the pieces defensively, which he basically already has, hire an elite OL coach to get us back to OL U, and get WR recruiting back to what it should be and has been in the last 20 years, we are only a transfer QB away from it all. I hope it’s Carr, but QB is the least of my concern. Build it and they will come.
