I haven't brought myself to watch any of these docs... the Teo one, the JFF and the Swamp Kings thing. It's not that long ago,.... we lived through it all and I know they will leave things out or color things a certain way that will just piss me off.

I must agree with UM on one thing. There is zero reason that ND should ever have to play Tommy Rees, Drew Pyne, Jack Coan, and even Book at QB. It's Notre Dame for Christ sake, that's one school a 5 star stud should want to lead. Some schools have 2/3 studs...ND can't get one??? Hope Carr is the change I've been looking for since Jimmy Pickles

And that's without mentioning the Pre-Brady Quinn trash that we called QBs.

During that period of time, they did sign better QBs - Crist, Zaire, Phil, Wimbush, etc. They just weren't very good. Maybe it was a failure to develop these guys, maybe everyone got the evaluation wrong or maybe they just had their heads up their own asses.

Whatever the reason may be, ND didnt recruit the players you mentioned to start and be a stars. They were starters by default after the higher ranked guy fell flat on his face.

That’s true. Weis signed Rees but as a backup to Crist. Then Dayne pops his patella vs Tulsa and the rest is history. BK’s first big name QB was Everett who he flipped from UNC. He showed promise until the frozen 5 took away the 2013 season & then he got fumblitis & pick prone in 2014. Zaire showed promise as a poor man’s Tebow until he fractures his ankle & never picked up where he left off. Kizer was the hidden gem b/c he played baseball in the summer instead of padding his recruiting rankings at 7-on-7 tourneys. So it‘s likely a myriad of things: lack of development, untimely injuries, missing on others.

The more Urban talks, the less respect I have for him. He seems to knock ND than praise ND. Did he bring up ND himself or was he asked?

I feel sorry for Brady Quinn for having to work next to Urban, Leinart, and Bush.

I think he still likes ND from a fan’s perspective. My guess is he grew up an ND & OSU fan. Probably held ND in higher esteem based on its overwhelming history for boomers like him. Once he coached & lived there realized it wasn’t his “dream job” but still held the team’s history in high esteem. Purely guessing but I bet his biggest disappointment is that ND wouldn’t be more liberal w/ their admissions b/c that seemed to be his biggest sticking point w/ ever sincerely considering the HC job.

As much as I hate to admit it…he’s right…ND should always have a 5-star QB. The reasoning for that post-Weis is just complicated in how it evolved w/ BK.

True dat! ND would if they hired him as HC. He is a great recruiter. He would get us a Natty.

Word was it was still his dream job until he talked to Boob Davie and Boob talked him out of it. I'm glad he didn't come though. He probably would have left us with sanctions and I doubt he could have won the big one at that time given restrictions.

I want you perma-banned from this board when Freeman wins us a title.

Resurrect the statue of MF. Ban Irishdrunk. In that order. Effective immediately.

You good with that?

Truth hurts. You seem fixated on banning posters.

Believe it was after Ty, before Urban took the Florida job.
[EDIT] Yeah, it was '05 when he talked to Boob. Urban wanted to live the dream and come to ND, Boob talked him out of it, so he went to Florida.

I've heard nothing of this, not that I'm terribly plugged in or always following rumors though.

What pressure is the wife under? Watching kids sucks but she should be by the pool or getting a massage most days.

After Zook was fired, ND knew they had to act fast b/c UF would go after Meyer. Ty was fired & I thought it was inevitable that Meyer would be next ND coach.

I don’t understand why Urban would take counsel from Davie who never won anything. It was Holtz who hired Meyer at the behest of Skip Holtz.

I always figured Meyer looked at the two rosters and it was a no-brained. Everyone knew Ty couldn’t/wouldn’t recruit. Urban knew the academic admissions would be a barrier to what he wanted & he wife purportedly detested living in South Bend.

It’s all water under the bridge now.

Meyer stayed on with Davie on his first staff after Holtz wasn't retained, so they had a working relationship. I got to meet him at ND's football camp in Boob's first season. In 2005 Urban asked Boob if you could win at ND anymore and he said "no." That was when he passed on his "dream job" and took the UF position.

Boy, you said it Urban. I've been saying this since 1995.

“When I was there with Lou Holtz, it was always national championship or bust. I’m not sure that’s the standard anymore
